Is it Super Mario Sunshine? Or Luigi's Mansion?
Or is it now Viewtiful Joe? (Or is VJ not even a platformer?)

I might also mention Wario World, but it seems like I'm the only that dug that game.

Just please, do not even bother mentioning the Sonic Adventure games! I ain't even hearin' that.

Also, don't be ashamed to mention any third party platformers - not only do they exist, but some of them are pretty good. (Maybe even - if I dare make such a bold statement here - better than N's first party offerings. Dr. Muto especially, but perhaps even Vexx.)

If we're counting VJ, I'm just gonna go ahead and give that my vote. I've played through the demo countless times now and it still doesn't get old. Can't wait for the finished product October 7th. Other than that, Mario Sunshine is the only other platformer I've played on the cube and that wasn't as good as I was anticipating it to be.

This holiday season looks to be great for multiconsole platformers though. There's Metal Arms, Sphinx and I-Ninja. All three titles I'm keeping an eye on. Hopefully they'll all live up to the hype.

If I remember correctly... you're a fan of Ratchet & Clank, just like I am, yes? Regardless, you'd do right to keep both your eyes on Metal Arms! I've got to say... after playing the OXM demo... that while it shares a few similarities to R&C - it also seems to blow it out of the water!

November 3rd!
[Glockstar claps his hands and rubs them together] :D
I can't wait!

Forget about it, the gc is no longer the system to own for platform games and nintendo is no longer the platform king. All hail the current champion, the ps2. Luigi's Mansion, you can easily beat in a rental. SMS, pick up used. Wario World, I don't know what the hell that game was supposed to be. But, whatever it was, it was deeply flawed.

Yeah, shocking as it might sound, I picked up Dr. Muto real cheap and found it suprisingly entertaining. I'll take Muto over Wario World easy.

What is it about this game did you guys like, and why do you think it got such stinky reviews (I saw some as low as 40%?) Anyway, with two good votes behind it, and the Muto being like $14 new, I'll pick it up next time I see it.

I'm looking forward to voting for Joe as the best platformer; certainly the most original, and I'm basing that off the demo (which I've played a lot.) It is super cool and super fun.

Poor Mario Sunshine just had too much to live up to, but it was still an extremely good time.

I agree with Mass, I'm not sure you could call the GC the platformer king. It does have a good assortment of odd games and a few stellar hits. Probably why its had some sales problems.

Anyway, what's it about Muto you like so much?

With Dr. Muto, I had zero and I mean zero expectations. Fact is, I picked it up for my cousin's daughter. It was a pre-own, so I thought, okay, let's give it a spin. It's on the easy side, the camera can be a pain, but, for the price I paid, about $12 canadian, hey, that's two rentals here. There's a level of polish, production value and thought behind the game I didn't expect, with the various gadgets you acquire and the abilities you have, which include morphing into various forms. SMS is a better game, but Muto is one of the better cheapies out there. I was just going to try it out, but found myself at it for a good solid 2 hours before finally saying, okay, I gotta get to bed.

I don't try to psychoanalyze my taste in games. If I keep playing it, then there's something to it, reviewers be damned. And no amount of glowing reviews will salvage a game for me if I find it a chore.

Then again, this could be a clever ploy on the part of two xboxers, luring an unsuspecting cuber into making a purchase decision he'll regret. :D

I agree with Mass and Gadfly. The Gamecube is no longer the platformer king.

Ah, massi... it's good to have you back!
(And you too, RBH. Holy cow, like where you been, man?!?)

Now what I have to say about Dr. Muto, I say in all serious, Gadfly.
And first off, I would never (intentionally) steer another gamer wrong. And we all know mass was trying to be funny, but I want to reiterate... that I really think you'll dig Dr. Muto. In fact, as with all my recommendations to you (i.e. Munch's Oddysee ;) ) ... I will put my reputation on the line. If... for whatever you reason... you do not like any of the games that I personally recommend to you... I will forever shut up about videogames!

That said, I am reluctant to tell you about Dr. Muto. :p
But it's not for the reasons that you think. :)
When I say that, I mean... that I would have trouble explaining the game to you without spoiling it. And I am the type of guy who hates spoilers! About books; about a sports event that I have taped, but not yet watched; about videogames; and ESPECIALLY about movies! So it's my m.o. to not do that to anyone else. Look, it's a damn good game. Regardless of price. You can find it for the XBox, brand new at Meijer for only $9.99; but for the Cube it's 19.99. But even at 19.99 it is well worth it! Heck, I think it's well worth 29.99 - straight up. So if you can find it for anything less than that - you will have made out.

And since mass has already gone on to talk about it/describe it... I guess it's too late to hide any of those things about which he wrote. Especially, since I very much agree with him. The game looks very good. It sounds pretty good, and it's got a camera that is... okay. I realize that that doesn't sound very endearing... but the game is damn fun!

I did not like SM Sunshine - but SMS has DM beat in a lot of areas. Technical areas. Yet DM, to me, is still twice the game! (And I think you'll agree. Or if not, you'll still be pleased as punch for one of the best $19.99 vg experiences you've ever had.) Heck, I think it's thrice the game. While SMS has the better camera, it's alos got better controls. That's not say that the good Doctor has bad controls, it's just... that he moves kind of weird. But hey, it's okay because... he's a weird guy. (He's kind of... top heavy. And actually, he kind of moves like a glukkon. :D )

And that's the way the game is. Technically inferior to alot of other platformers... but way superior in personality, character, and charm.

To wit... the puzzles. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated... but I'll be damned, that when you figure out what it is you have to do, during the execution, a smile will, sure as shootin', cross your face! At least.

Which leads me to the last thing that I'm going to say about DM. Especailly because it's the thing that I really didn't want to tell you.
So before I do... promise me that you'll forget it - right away. Okay?
Well, here it is then... shhh... Dr. Muto is kind of funny .

I've been back and forth between forums, but I should be a regular here for a while now. I need to get my post count up, it's looking pathetic as of now.
