Just gone done watching nintendo's press event. Started about 5 minutes late, much, much better press event than sony's.

No date set, no price given. Zelda at launch. However, there will be two different versions of Zelda sold, a gamecube version and a Wii version. They demoed the wii version. The nunchuk is also motion sensing.

Metroid Prime 3 was shown as was Super Mario Galaxy. No indication of when exactly these titles would release. A wii sports pack will be at launch. Three sports will be offered in the package. Tennis, golf, and baseball. Looked like a lot of fun, but the graphics are very basic. The other big problem is simply the room factor. These are games that seem to be designed to be played standing up and you need room around yourself to swing the controller. How people are supposed to manage that in a small living room beats me.

Some new titles were shown, nothing exciting here. Excite Truck, Project Hammer and Disaster: Day of Crisis were all snooze inducing. The graphics on excite truck were very bland.

DS was also profiled. New DS titles include Yoshi's Island 2, Diddy Kong Racing as well as FFIII featuring a big headed 3d style kiddie look. Barf!

Overall, a very entertaining presentation. Overall impressions. The controller looks like fun, but multiplayer titles are going to requrie moving the coffee table out and maybe even the comfy sofa just to give yourselves enough room to manuever. Graphically, this system isn't going to impress, really didn't see anything even remotely next gen. This is just a souped up gamecube powerwise and graphicwise. Nintendo made no mention of the power or should I say, lack of power of the system.

Nintendo stands to become the second system of choice for a lot of gamers. If you own a 360 or a ps3, then you're more likely to pick up a Wii rather than another expensive system which is just going to replicate what you're already playing.

At the present time, I have virtually no interest in the ps3 aside from ebaying a system and making money. The wii is a potential purchase depending on how much nintendo decides to ask. I could see myself picking up zelda and the sports pack at launch. I'm sure my niece would get a big kick out of the sports games when she drops over.

Side note, only third party game demoed was Red Steel. Okay, but the aiming didn't look smooth at all. For such a supposedly precise device, this guy couldn't hit many of his targets. Madden wasn't demoed.
