First it was delayed by over half an hour, and then it just wouldn't end. Over 2 hours long. Yikes.

Cut to the chase. They announced a date and price for the 3 major territories. Like I've stated on more than one occassion on these forums, I said the ps3 would be at least $499. I was right on the money. However, sony is releasing 2 configurations. One with a standard 20gigh hd for $499 and a 60gig hd version for $599. Release date is Nov. 17th. Sony is claiming they will launch worldwide with 2 million units. Yeah, sure they will. From what I heard, the hd is non-removeable, so that makes your choice of model interesting.

Sony's big suprise was they ditched the batarang controller and stuck with the dual shock design. However, they added some 6 way motion sensing technology which didn't seem all that impressive and seems like a lame attempt to steal some of nintendo's thunder with the wii. Its not going to work.

As for the games, lots and lots of freakin cgi and movies. A few were playable and demoed. Gengi 2, which was awful. Heavenly Sword which I thought was the best of what sony showed. Resistance: Fall of Man. Lots of action, but really nothing I haven't seen before. And they demoed Warhawk using the new controller to control the plane. Didn't look comfortable and I see this getting old really, really fast. HS gets my vote for best game of sony's show. Notable no shows were Killzone and Motorstorm which pretty rests the case that both those games were showing nothing but CGI video last E3. Naughty Dog is doing some action adventure games, Indiana Jones type of affair, and sony seems to be going all out to create action movie like games with stuff like the Getaway and some other title they showed I can't remember.

Unreal Tournament wasn't there and most of the games are a ways off. Didnt seem very clear as to what gamers should actually expect from the launch titles. Not suprisingly, I didn't see that pile of crap Untold Legends.

The one good thing I'll give sony credit for is that they're keeping it real for canadians by acknowledging our strong dollar. The $499 US model is only $549canadian, which places it only $50 more than an xbox 360. The price isn't bad at all considering the entire package and along the lines of what I expected. Still, sony is going to have problems with the $500 price point, especially with no must have titles for launch.

The rumored price for the Wii is supposed to be $249 or basically half of the lower end ps3 model. And sony's 6 way motion sensing tech isn't going to fare very well against the wii controller. Nintendo could do very well this xmas and they could hurt sony in a major way. Apparently the wii is getting another FF:CC game along with a dragon quest game.
