Way to go taking a kick ass puzzler and making it so no one that bought the original will want to buy the sequal...

April 26, 2006 - Today Buena Vista games and Q Entertainment announced that they will produce four new puzzle titles: Lumines II for PlayStation Portable, Lumines Plus for PlayStation 2, Every Extend Extra for PSP, and Meteos: Disney Edition for the Nintendo DS.

Lumines II is a sequel to the highly-rated, brightly-colored, super-addictive, music-peppered puzzler for PSP. Lumines Plus will be an original title for the PS2.

Meteos is a top-rated, brightly-colored, super-addictive, space-based puzzler for the DS. Meteos: Disney Edition will star beloved Disney characters and doubtlessly capture the hearts of children everywhere.

Finally, Every Extend Extra is a new "music-based" title and described as "an electrifying action puzzle shooter game" for the PSP.

"Q Entertainment established itself last year as the premier creator of action puzzle games with the best-selling and highly addictive Lumines for the PSP system and Meteos for the Nintendo DS. This year, our goal is to build upon that success and reach new heights around the world with our new publishing agreement with BVG. We are also very excited to introduce another music-based game, Every Extend Extra," said Q Entertainment CEO Shuji Utsumi.

Lumines II will be available to play at E3, so we'll be sure to bring you our first impressions from the show, but for now further information on these titles was not available.

All four titles are planned for release fall of 2006.

Hmmm...yeah I don't know what's with the "Disney edition" Meteos. The theme seemed to play a pretty extensive part in the game, so no idea how they will shoehorn in the property without it losing something

Didn't Lumines sell poorly? I remember it doing not-so-well when PSP lauched, and ended up wondering how idiots could buy dreck like NFS:U whils leaving WipEout and Lumines to rot on the shelves...

Anyways Lumines is a boss game, but I'm not sure if I have any incentive to buy another one. There will be new skins obviously, new modes and the like. But unless they go and screw something up with the gameplay, Lumines II will likely be interchangeable with the first. Kinda like Tetris...how many versions of it do you need? But who knows? maybe they'll tempt me with a robust online feature on it or something...

I'm gonna have to keep an eye on that E-3 game however. These former UGA employees get at least one game a year from me in sales thanks to Rez...

Yeah that is what I am thinking for lumines new skins music tracks and possibly puzzles in puzzle mode but unless they add bombs or something to clear out chunks of the levels it will be basically the same game. However meteos with a disney theme, I just don't see how it is going to be anything but a joke and take away from the greatness that was the original.

Lumines rocked, though I'm unsure how they can improve on the formula.

Barf for Q chucking the stereotype to the DS. Did the world really need a disney themed Meteos? Maybe they could break into the Louvre and stencil a mario moustache on the Mona Lisa while they're at it.

Every Extend Extra looks really cool.
