View Full Version : Zilla Man's 4th Annual E3 Thread

Okay, VGR members. It's that time of year again: when we all put aside our personal grievences to list those games you're interested in me checking out for you at the show.

This year's E3 will be special for a myriad of reasons. Several being:

This is the 1st time that there will be 5 MAJOR Systems vying for my attention
This is the 1st year Sony and Nintendo are both premiering consoles the same year:yikes:

This being my 4th year doing this thread, several important things come to mind:

Even though some of us may snark at each other from time to timeover which system is best, we're all here because of one thing: WE ALL LOVE VIDEOGAMES!!!!!
When it comes to reporting about games, I got nothin' on Gadfly! He's a much better writer and reporter than I am. Gaddy, if you're still in SF next year, I should get you a pass (and give you the lion's share of the work)!
I still can't type worth #$%@ - !

Seriously though, if I missed your request last year then please letr me know and I'll make sure and get yours in for sure this year. PLease keep in mind that while I'll try to get everyone's requests in, this year there's more stuff than ever (see above). Also, Booth Babes abound so...

BTW, here's a Zilla Man prediction for 2006:

I think all 3 companies are going to be in for a disappointment. Overall sales are down and I think people in general (the public) will be hard pressed to buy a new system this year, especially with the portables and PS2 still going strong. I don't think it'll be until mid to late 2007 that things will start to pick up.

Nintendo's the dark horse to watch in this race. I'm curious to see whether they'll take off or simply become the "Macintosh" of the consoles.

Okay, enough pontificating - you guys know the drill....

Probably the same as last year (or at least I think I requested it) see if you can track someone down at the nintendo booth, I would assume as H2O Interactive no longer exists to my knowledge, and see who holds the rights to Tetrisphere and tell them they really need to port that wonderous gem to one of the new portables.

Zilla, you mentioned in the DS forum that you might be interested in picking up a DS, so here is my E3 related request - I would like to know if what you see regarding the DS this year will make it a "must have" system for you or not. :)

So, I guess that means I want your personal review of all things DS related.

Is picture-taking allowed? Got a camera on your phone at least? Please take pictures of booth-babes, and post them somewhere. . .set up a Zilla E3 myspace or something. Also, please attempt to score with a boothbabe, and post the results.

On games, there's very little that's been announced that is interesting to me, except Too Human on 360, and I wouldn't mind also hearing what you think of the new 2-d Mario on DS. So mostly, whatever unknown surprises await, it is your mission to get the scoop first. It's hard to make a specific request this year other than to say the obvious, which is to focus on Ps3 and Revolution, and get as much hands-on with "the wand" as possible.

Thanks. . .and I'm definitely looking forward to the promo-materials packet. Any DS freebies that are out there, like last year how they put out a Twilight Princess promo on a DS card, or anything else related to DS and upcoming DS games. You pretty much nailed my tastes last year with what you sent.

The main reason I wouldn't want too much emphasis on DS is I buy everything good for taht system already; the other reason is that it is a sublime system that reveals its pleasures slowly and is an acquired style of play. It's hard to enjoy either handheld in the deafening loud environs of a convention hall. As much as I like DS and PsP, they came across as highly underwhelming at G.A.M.E.

Nevertheless, I'm obsessed with the DS right now, so if the DS at E3 showing is so utterly brilliant that Zilla needs to buy a system, because he has no other choice, then I get to dance a jig of DS satisfaction and rapture.

I mean I dont know, i think what everyone in this forum is interested whether they want to admit it or not is to see if the 'Revmote' is all its cracked up to be. i mean yeah there are a bunch of developers loving it, but like Masked asked, is it is it is it is it really creating the experience we are all thinking?

Like Gadfly said, it would be great if u got your hands on it for a variety of games. Hmm lol, i think my last quesiton last year was if Microsoft was going handheld. I guess the chances of HaloDS are out of the question?

I wonder who u will pee with this year.
And can u haccle some figurehead about Peter Moore's comment's of promising a 'lucid dream' experience with the 360. How many 360 games have u xbots played that were like a lucid dream (without the use of drugs) ?

Also, is the PS3 going to pull our minds or not?

Hmm yeah: Stupid question: HaloDS, Lucid Dream WTF?, Revomatta, graphic whore ps3.

Sorry i wish i had better questions.

It is cool to turn someone onto the DS. . .I've personally turned at least five people I know (in real life) onto the system. It's that same kinda satisfaction when you turn a music enthusiast onto a great musician they've never heard before.

Whenever someone here at this site discovers how damned fun the DS is. . .goes from a skeptic to a believer, it's really fun to read.

I'd like to know about anything Team Ninja is doing outside of DOAX2.

Updates and possibly pics on DMC4.

See if you can find out where Lorne Lanning is, and WTF he's been doing these days.

Anything on the next Silent Hill game.

Thanks!

I'm also gonna throw my hat in the "portable obsessed" ring and ask you get as much cool info on the DS or the PSP as you can get. The more the merrier.

I'm really looking forward to Landstalker in particular. I haven't heard much about it after it's original announcement, and I'd like to know a helluva lot more since it's a remake of one of my favorite games of all time.

First of all thanks for what you are doing for us Zilla. God knows you don't have to.

Here is a list of what I'm mainly interested in:
1. Zelda DS
2. Spores
3. The wandtroller. Just like everyone else I am very interested as to what kind of games will be coming out for the Rev.
4. Lastly, PS3 specifics: will it support KB/Mouse for games. What kind of apps can it run(will it replace PC's).

We'll all be anxiously waiting for your "inside scoops".

I'm definitely very curious about this.

BTW, the DS is backwards compatible with GBA right?

Yes,both pictures AND video are both allowed. I hadn't taken any in the past because I noticed that the Booth Babes tend to put you in the "geek with a camera" catagory if you ask them to take a pic (and most of the guys that do it definitely fit that description). One of the things I'm looking forward to this year is the fact that E3 has seriously restricted who can attend the show ( no more EB or Best Buy employees unless they're managers). So hopefully I won't have to deal too much with Johnny Playtester like before. But I'll definitely get some babe pics (and stories) this year. Since 90% of the Booth Babes are wanna be actresses, I'll probably be able to use the fact that I've got an actual film I made coming out later this summer to...provide some "incentive". :yesnod:

Until then check out this site:

http://www.e3girls.com/main.cfm?CFID=2991183&CFTOKEN=40934190

I'm mostly excited to try the Revolution. The Ninty booth is always the most crowded but hopefully the new restrictions will make it easier to get a hands on wand experience.

And yes, Gaddy, DS freebies for you and Trebor are a no brainer.

Lanning's retired from gaming and is trying to market his Oddworld characters as film/cartoon properties.

I'll try and talk to Itagaki (hopefully outside of a urinal setting).

Indeed it is. Although I haven't played any GBA games for ages since I'm so involved with the DS games themselves.

I would ask if you could find out when the DS Lite will be released in N.America, but every Ninty fansite on the planet will report that info, so your personal take on things is definitely more interesting.

Good looking out.

1. Is Visual Concepts still doing the NFL legends football game or any football game.

2.The real difference between Playable PS3 games and X360 games

3.Next gen version of Criterion's Black.

Thanx.

I finally thought of a few things:

1) Any word on a Mercenaries sequel from Pandemic.

2) Any way you could get an inside scoop on whether Too Human (Silicon Knights) and Mass Effect (Bioware) see 2006 release dates, barring any setbacks?

3) How does the gameplay in Eidos' Just Cause look?

Thanks, Zilla.

I'd read that there will be a sequel to Mercenaries, but Pandemic won't be doing it. But I'll ask them anyway.

Too Human and Mass Effect, huh? Okay

What is Just Cause?

Hey I got one for you, could you track down reggie fils aim and ask him how in the hell he let nintendo name the revolution as they did? I mean ask him did they bother using test groups to come up with it or did they just name it while in the urinals.

Yo Zilla, what's the word on Stalker? Is it even still alive?

Also how is Heroes of Might and Magic 5? I believe it's due out next month (but I am already downloading it as we speak).

Also how is:
Spore
Prey
Hellgate London

And of course, as GameLegend said, one of my primary interests is the RevMote. Is it any good? Worth its balls?

And: confirmation on whether the PS3 can use Mouse for FPS input

I'll think of more later, I'm always braindead at work.

I know! The lines the 1st two days were outrageous!!! I've never waited in line before for nIntendo because everything they shown in the past you've always been able to watch on the net. But there's no other way to EXPERIENCE the Wii controller.

Tomorrow I'll be getting there an hour before the doors open (8 AM), just to get in line early. All for my VGR buddies...
