I mean, they're both sci-fi first-games, with heroes dressed in metal, that define their respective consoles.
I bring it up again, prompted by IGN’s Matt Casamassina's proclamation that Metroid Prime 3 would be playable at E3.
Which are you more stoked to get your hands on? Understanding the Rev control, and the increased speed of aiming over thumbsticks, and the eradication of "lock on" targeting from Metroid, does that change the equation for any of you?
I popped Metroid Prime in yesterday, just to look at the game again. Graphically, it really holds up. . .intense, beautiful world and stunning level design. . .a graphical masterpiece that looks as good as any new game I've seen, despite more powerful processing allowing for better textures, lighting, etc. Looking at the game again has pretty much wiped away any lingering concerns about the Revolution being "weak-ass hardware"--if a Revolution Metroid can look signifanctly better than Metroid Prime AND feature an immersive and intuitive control interface. . .wow.
If Halo 3 and Metroid Prime 3 were both playable at E3, and you only had time to try out one, which would it be? Would you feel differently if it were the 360 introducing the new control for Halo, and Metroid Prime was still being played the old-fashioned way?

Well, the way I see it is, Halo and Metroid are two COMPLETELY different games. Metroid is more of a puzzler, and IMO FPS/Puzzler don't exactly boad well together. I've always thought Metroid was MC's little ***** and, you know what? she always will be. Halo reigns supreme! All hail the chief nigga!

The direction they've taken Metroid with it's online DS title is pretty much straight up FPS. If the Rev version is more of a FPS, I know the action/platform/puzzle elements might take a back seat, but if it supports superior game-control, does that make a difference, or are our pre-disposed preferences going to take priority.
For me, all I can say is, if the type of control being implemented for Metroid Prime 3 was instead on 360 and Halo, you could call me Xbot. It's all about pushing the boundries of gameplay experience, wherever that happens to be.

I'll say i pretty big Halo 2 fan. oretty big Metroid fan.
Lets say i somehow got the admission to E3. Lets say Halo 3 demo appears (which it wont, yeah lets also say i'm an industry insider now) and Metroid demo appears.
I cant tell u. I think the line up for the Halo 3 booth would be bigger than the metroid line up. Simply because of the hype. So i'd go to the metroid line up. I cant choose and I'll look at the circumstances of the sitation at the time being.
No. wait, i've been dying to get my hands on a rev. So Metroid.
Yes metroid it is. I've seen, played and made love to the 360 already, i can move on. lol.
sniper rifle or battle rifle are my best friends. I hope their level of potential doesnt decrase in halo 3.

In a battle between MC and Metroid.
common, its a no brainer. metroid will whip ass. All of MC's fellow soilders died, hes the only remainder, hes expandable.
Metorid's got cool gymnastic moves. MC can jump.
MC's is really Bill gates under the helmet (yah i saw it from this flash cartoon on joystiq).
I'm a halo fan just like u. I speak the obvious.

what are you smoking pal?
first of all, MC is like literally 10 times the strength of little Samus. He weighs litterally 1 tonne with all his equiptment, which is made out of a special alloy steel. He actually knows how to pilot vehicles.
What does little 'ol Samus have on MC? maybe she's more flexible, but what she gonna do? Jump at him and try to kick him or something?! HA, hey feeble attempts would be squabbled in seconds mon frere. And if he really wanted to MC could just pump the ***** full of lead with that pump action shotgun of his.

I would have to go with Halo 3. I think the continuation of a good story would woo me. As much as I like playing with a keyboard and mouse, I grown fond the thumbsticks. Before the Nintendo annouced its new controller, I've always imagined using a lightgun with a second hand thumbstick controller to move the camera. Better controls would be neat but wouldn't make or break a game.
I thought MP looked good compared with Halo but not Halo 2.

OK, from you I would not expect this. It's about time to put an end to this anti-pot bigotry that implies people who "smoke something" are less perceptive or astute. In my experience, it's more often the opposite (burnouts aside) and its the squares who can't perceive things. I know it's just a figure of speech, but damn. . .
Anyway. . .He actually knows how to pilot vehicles. OUCH! She does crash that ship every damn time doesn't she. Is this another subtile japanese sexist innuendo, poking fun at women drivers?

Halo sucks and Metroid's only redeeming qualities would vanish the moment it becomes a full fledged FPS.

Slade has it right about Metroid. The Revo is already gonna have its share of FPS, now Metroid is gonna have to do something extra-special to be able to keep the pace. Of course, MP is still better than 99% of the other FPS out there. The 1% goes to a tie between Prime and Halo.
If I had to choose between Halo and Prime Revo-ed, I'd go with Prime, because it actually had a chance to do something unique to the genre like the original Prime did. Halo will just be more. Bigger gunz! Faster melee action! More noobage slaying and map-weapon-vehicle exploiting!
The final Battle on Earth will be something to behold, though. Oh yeah! All Bungie has to do is get that right, and it will be considered the greatest FPS ever.
I'd take a new Oddworld FPS before any of the others any day, though.

Your on crack
Anyway, This is a stupid battle but just as stupid, i went a did a 10 second google search and found other losers who fought over this dumb fight. Generally, everyone is saying Samus will win
Heres what other losers had to say:
-samus adapt to any environment and can survive the effects of phazon which would kill master chief in about two seconds
-she also has lock on.
-Master cheif can shoot one missle and then he has to reload samus can shoot up to 5 missles at a time and they are all locked on to master cheif
-one power bomb would kill master cheif instantly.
Though, i wonder if MC had a Sword, if that one lunge would hurt Samas.
whatever moral of the story, i like cheese and both characters are amazing.

Samus wins by default, simply because "Master Chief" is the dumbest name for a protagonist in the history of entertainment media.
With that said, as long as the core Metroid gameplay stays intact for Metroid Prime 3 then that is what I'd be playing. I'll give the nod to Halo for having a more interesting storyline, but as far as gameplay is concerned MP is just better. The level design in the MP series alone is leagues ahead of the Halo series. Plus the art design of MP is better and I'm excited to see what Retro can do on a system 2 - 3 times more powerful then the Cube.

LoL, Wikipeida mentions "Master Chief Petty Officer is the ninth, and highest, enlisted rank in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Coast Guard, just above Senior Chief Petty Officer, and is a non-commissioned officer. They are referred to as Master Chief in most circumstances."
So i can see the reasoning behind using it.

Master Chief is military rank.
And MP series is boring as hell.

I would go with Metroid Prime 3, but that's only to get hands-on with the wandtroller and really have a conclusion of if I ever would want to game with the thing.
I don't have much enthusiasm for either MP3 or Halo 3, especially since they'll be stuck in first person-only views.
Of course, if I had the option for first or third person views for both games, I would go Halo 3.

Yeah, I know it's a military rank, but a military rank is not a name.
If the Metroid series went by that naming convention, the main character wouldn't be "Samus" - it would be "Bounty Hunter". Which would be just as stupid as calling your main character "Military Rank Guy."

Just calling him by his rank adds to the character it's gives him a certain amount of mystery. And the rank all implies his authoritity. And both the Halo games you can tell the confidence his compianions have in and how they respect in as they refer to the "chief" even the general who addresses him by rank does so with respect. Honestly I think calling Chief "Jones" or whatever may even take away.
Besides this isn't a game really about Character you are the chief when you are playing I hope they never really develope his personality. This is a action if you want Character exposition go play Metal Gear.
P.S, To this Day I don't know my DI name from boot camp it was Just Petti Officer (Naval Rank) Master Chief or better yet "The Master Chief " is a good game.+

Eh, well, whatever - to each their own. I kinda like the sound of "Master Chief Jones" myself.
Although, in Halo 1, wasn't there some kind of ethereal, luminescent being that refered to your character as "Master Chief" ? WTF is up with that? Wouldn't some higher being be above calling a person by a meaningless title bestowed upon them by mortal convention?

You're talking about cortana and she was just and A.I. construct. I guess she was programmed to address him by rank. This is technically a miltary game and addressing someone particulary a superior by rank is normal accepted practice.

It comes across as more generic than it does mysterious. Like Trebor points out, addressing him by rank, you'd use the last name, you know, Private Drunken Thumbmaster.
You know, Samus, veteran of encounters with Space Pirates, with the flick of the wand, would be swinging over the top of Master Chief Jones with her grappling hook. His creaky thumbstick-head slowly turns at the sound, but then Samus nails a headshot straight through the top of his lunky skull and right out through the bottom of his precious moon boots. And she be doing that sh!t to MC Jones while experiencing heavy flow with no easy way to change the pad.

LOL, Master Chief Jones.
I think Samus is a far more interesting character. For one, she was an orphan raised by the Chozo, a now extinct race of beings(I think). That right there is as mysterious and unknown as it gets. Wow. Seven letters in unknown, and three of them are N.
Her suit is light centuries beyond what Jones has. It can identify unknown materials and creatures. It can absorb the energy left behind from fallen enemies. She has jump boots which give her extra upness. Beam Weapons(plasma, ice, light/dark, grapple, ect.) plus rockets plus the ability to combine beams and rockets for super-mega-ultra blasts. Multiple vision deals(heat, x-ray, scan, ect.). This argument is dumb. She would rape Jones sideways.

There's only one thing Samus needs to win this fight and that's the wave beam. One charged up shot and Master Chief would stop functioning.

Heh, there's something I forgot that Samus can do that Jones cannot - GO UNDER WATER.
Master Chief Jones dies instantly in water (right?), so why do people think he's such a tough guy. HUH? He can't even freaking swim. Samus would just have to push MC Jones into the pool to win any fight.

If MC Jones has one of those duckie intertubes around his waist, then what will Samus do then?
There's something even more powerful that Samus can do to MC Jones that will render Jones helpless.....

Master Chief probably looks like Chunk from the Goonies, which every Xbot who plays on Live can relate to.
