I figured that we could use a thread where we can talk about any other games that don't get the special treatment that games like Oblivion and such get. Just BSing about what games are coming, or if you need help on a certain game.

I need help with fighting in FNR3. My style is Philly Shell, which I guess is blocking and countering? Anyways, I can hold my own while doing this, but there are lots of times where the guys just want to rumble, and when I try to do that, my contoller seems unresponsive, especially when I want to throw a punch coming out of a block/dodge.
Another thing about FNR3, is that I've seen the first person view in the demo, and then once when I was going to fight a rival and he cheapshotted me into almost getting knocked down(pre-fight interview), but never in the regular game, or while playing vs. mode. Do I have to set it in options or something?
This game is really awesome. It's actually the reason I've decided to finally go high-def. I still get impressed by the graphics whenever I pop this one in after not playing it for a few days.

Try using a quick jab coming out of a block or dodge. Take more of an offensive approach with the guys who want to rumble while also incorporating lots of parrys rather than just blocking.
To trigger first person view, you need to perform a stun punch. To do so, move the left controller in 2 movements; first left then a quarter circle down, second start down and move a half circle up and left. The same move can be performed to the right as well. Check the instruction manual page 2 for a diagram of the controller movements.

I'm currently playing the Outfit. It's not the best game but I'm having fun nonetheless. Sometimes I prefer a more mindless, easy to jump into experience and the Outfits the bill (excuse the pun).
Strategy is involved utilizing a four player squad, embakement weapons, vehicles, air strikes, etc.. All that and you also move a character in third person view. I often forget it's a strat game and just run and gun :) But then I get my hinder kicked and reminded of how the game is meant to be played.
Plus the Outfit is humorous. Maybe I'm enjoying this game as a complement to Oblivion (kind of the opposite type of experience). Haven't played it online yet but plan to after beating the single player game.

Is The Outfit slow-paced? Maybe that's why I couldn't get into the demo, because I played it as a run-and-gun. Damn my action-oriented mind!!!!!!

Yes, it is a little slow paced. Mainly with the main characters (they move slowly). I think the developer planned that in order to prevent players from using a run-n-gun type style.
The demo was online only I believe which is a different experience entirely. By playing the 1up campaign, the difficulty ramps up slowly while also providing some tutorials to help explain how to play the game and how to incorporate the appropriate strat.
Part of what makes the Outfit fun IMO is that it's entirely open-ended (kind of like Mercenaries for a lack of something else to compare it to). So once you learn the strat involved, you can take any approach you please in working through each level and objectives.

How is COD2 online since the patch has been released? I haven't played this game much since launch but recently saw a few posts on a different website where gamers claim it's drastically improved for online multiplayer.
Anyone play it that can share any impressions?

Thanks for the Outfit info. I was kind of wondering how it plays. The 3rd person view is a draw for me, of course, but I was wondering, is there more strategy in the Outfit than GRAW?
As late as yesterday, I saw the Outfit used for $49.99. Kind of surprised that it's not the usual $5 difference in used prices.
Right now, I'm playing Tomb Raider Legend. I think Crystal Dynamics has restored the franchise. Of course, I've only finished one mission and played in the mansion for a bit. Right now I'm unsure if I want to keep going on the campaign or re-do the first mission to collect a few things I missed. The controls are great, so great that there's no chance I can ever play the old Tomb Raiders (kind of how MGS3:S keeps me from playing other MGS games). I mentioned in another thread that I would post my time after I beat the game. Well, that may not be a good idea, even from playing the first mission. I'm walking a slow pace, looking pretty much everywhere, climbing the same structures about 4 times just to try and perform a dive into water, etc. If I continue this pace in the other levels, I'll probably surpass 12-15 hrs easily, especially if the mansion time is included.
From the release dates, the next game that could interest me is Ninety-Nine Nights (N3). I've been wanting a Dynasty Warriors type of game, only it has to be a lot better than DW. The main things that will make or break it for me will be the animations and length. The last Phantagram (the devs) game I played was Kingdom Under Fire 2, and I thought that sucked. If there's a lot of strategy in N3 like there were in KUF2, then I'm not interested. I thought strategy in KUF2 really took away from the game, which could have been a good one, IMO. On another note, the next KUF game looks to be an action rpg, so the series has a 2nd chance for me.
One more thing: As with Oblivion, when I put TRL in my 360 for the first time, it had to update my 360 before it played. Has this happened to anyone else, or is it just me since I'm not on LIVE and I'm getting my updates this way?

I'm not in the best position to answer that as I haven't played GRAW much yet (just the training mission before being distracted by a few other titles).
My hunch is that it involves a different type of strategy and would be hard to compare apples to apples in that regard.
The Outfit has more of an arcade feel. You can order tanks, vehicles, weapons, air strikes at any time and a plane drops them in within seconds. An example of the arcade feel I'm referring to.
Not sure about the 360 updating your games. I don't recall seeing that happen unless a new download/patch has become available and in most cases those are announced by MS so it's never a surprise when it happens.

Is the strategy in the Outfit comparable with Kindgom Under Fire, or is it simplier (and a lot more fun)?
The Mercenaries comparision caught my eye, especially since I consider Mercs the best shooter from last gen.
I never received the last update, which I believe was in early March. When you get your update from Live, does your system power down for a second, then turn back on (except for the controller)?

The strat in the Outfit is easy and enjoyable and doesn't require complicated button combinations or anything awkward for that matter. At the same time, you don't see the same level of depth in it's strategy that you see in other games. A trade off if you will. But like I stated previously, this is precisely why I'm enjoying it.
Yes, the system powers down for a sec when applying new updates.

One more question about the Outfit, well maybe two. 1) How's the shooting, is it pretty solid overall? 2) How's the vehicle controls for the game? I read that they are supposedly not great, but if I can put up with controlling the Warthog, Lara Croft in TR: Angel of Darkness, two Getaways, and the crappy controlling horse in Shadow of Colossus, then I think I can put up with anything.

The shooting is solid but not perfect (maybe a B grade). The aiming doesn't feel as precise as it probably could. Foes are difficult to hit at far distances and it appears to me that gunplay is more meant for close proximity. Plus, the weapons fit that same bill (shotgun, bazooka, rifle, etc..). You use a reticule to aim and can also click the right stick to zoom in further. Hitting foes at long distances is better suited to some of the strategy like using an embakement gun or an air strike.
Vehicle control is clunky but I've gotten used to it. The game offers some innovation (you can drive and shoot vehicle weapons at the same time) causing challenging controller mapping. Basically you move and steer with the left stick while aiming with the right. Because of this extra wrinkle, Halo style Warthog type controls would not have worked. NOTE: In order to have functional vehicle weapons, you need a teammate seated in that position of the vehicle be it a computer controlled squad member or a friend online.
Plus, by using this type of vehicle controller set-up, all other buttons remain the same whether you're in a vehicle or not which I rather like.

Thanks. From what you're saying about the controls, I think I can enjoy the game. I'll put it on my short list with PGR3 and Call of Duty 2 (yeah, it's a FPS, but the battleground atmosphere is great) for games that I'll pick up when they hit the right price. I don't know when that will happen, though, since I don't expect these next-gen games to drop in price for another year.

Just got me Far Cry(I was neaky and got it for 20 bucks from the pawn. Huh, so quick? I know. Some guy put the 360 game in the original XBOX case and sold it, like a jackhole!) but I might not even play it for a while, since I'm working on my final achievement for Oblivion and I want to start getting some headshot action with Hunters. I'm thinking that it is pretty much the same as the XBOX versions, but since I just played the demo and this was only a quarter-sack, WTF not?
I'd like to try and make me some maps for Live play. Anyone have any tips? I sucked when I tried to make maps on Pariah, so any help will be great.
I'd like to get PGR again, but I'm worried about the lock-up thta happened with my last 360 will happen again. Oh well, Burnout Revenge is more my flow, anyways.

Did you make a thread about PGR3's lock-up? I think I remember reading someone's thread about the game freezing up. I've noticed the freeze-ups in games for my 360 comes from used games with scratches. Madden was notorious for it (60% of the time), so I'll be very picky if I come across any good priced PGR3 used. I'll probably get it from Gamestop, just so I can nto only return it if I have problems, but can just get something else instead of trying other PGR3s.

I finally read the EGM article on Too Human. It looks great, and I have a feeling it will make a 2006 release. The controls for the game is as follows:
L-Trigger: Fires left-hand gun
R-Trigger: Fires right-hand gun
Left-Stick: Moves the character (Baldur)
Right-Stick: Melee attacks
A-Button: Jump
*"You generally have autoaim working, but if you use the right-stick while shooting, you can manually target, and if you use the bumpers, you can do eight-way Robotron-style control." - Too Human Designer Henry Sterchi, EGM #203, pg 67.
What's Robotron? Is that a generic Voltron?
They don't have any other buttons configured so far, but I would assume they are for something. Also, I would have been iffy about using the R-Stick for melee combat, since the last few games that used it sucked (cough..Death by Degree..cough), but after playing the Godfather by everyone's fav publisher EA, I'm encouraged. I think Silicon Knights know what they are doing, and I'm hopeful it will turn out to be pretty good. Also, for the camera, since it's not manually controlled, it's supposed to zoom out a bit for shooting, and whenever you start doing melee attacks, the camera is supposed to zoom in closer. Sounds promising.

Yes, when I first bought the game I played a few hours online. Crash Party Mode was alot of fun except for when the series would last 10 rounds - I prefer 3-5 or so. I'd like to give it a shot again sometime but everytime I fire BOR up, I end up working on the single player campaign which I'd really like to get further in.
I picked up a couple games the other day that I plan to play down the road; Blazing Angels & Tomb Raider. I also own GRAW and would like to play that soon as well. Now if I can just resist getting any other games to actually have a chance to catch up and play a few of these.
Add that to the DS titles I'm jonesing to finally play.......

Robotron is like Geometry Wars, only old-school(eight-way shooting instead of total control). It's 100 times harder than Geometry Wars, and really, only half as fun. Now Geometry Wars Evolved! WOW!
Glock, did you ever decide whether to get GWE or MSR? I think that most would like mutatnt Storm here over Geometry Wars, because it's level based, has different difficulty settings, and you don't die every ten seconds once you get to a certain point in your score like Geometry Wars.
I need to go play those games some more. Oblivion pretty much obliterated my Live Arcade playing. I've unlocked all the achievements that I can in those games also, so they've pretty much become filler. Where the hell's Hoopworld?! Where the hell's Street Fighter?!
That also reminds me, Glock, I was the king on my Friends list for high score on Hexic, until I added you to my list, now you have me beat by 100 grand! We have the same achievements, but damn, your score is insane! I'm guessing you got a lot of the flower deals, and maybe a few of the black pearls? I once got three blacks, but I've never gotten more than that, or connected them when I had them. I didn't check your Times or Survival mode scores, though.

Funny thing that GRAW was mentioned by Fivespot, because I plan to beat it, then part with mine by the end of the month. Not sure what I'm going to get yet, but I do know I do not want to trade it in for a PS2 game. That feels like downgrading, IMO. Hitman: Blood Money and Ninety Nine Nights are probably the front runners (if N3 is coming out in June), and Dead Rising could get on that list as well if I can find out about the possibility of multiple playable characters. Of course those characters need to be selectable from the get-go, instead of the Capcom usual "beat the game to unlock hard, then beat it on hard to unlock characters". I just don't have the type of patience for that stuff anymore. Give me what I want, or I'm moving on to another game. That's my new motto. :)
Cuddly Knife

I had hopes for Dead Rising, but then I saw video of it and now, I don't think it's going to be a good game. Sure, killing thousands of zombies sounds fun, but I juts feel like the execution is going to be half-assed. That's why I think they delayed it more months, because it just isn't next-gen, in any way, except for the amount of characters on screen at once. I think it'll be a slower paced and bloodier Dynasty Warriors with a mall setting and more gimmicks.
I'd get DOAX2 if it had some substance.
I do plan on getting Top Spin 2. Now this company knows how to give. 40 bones for a brand new 360 game. Who whould've thunk? EA should take some notes here.
Rogue Bounty Hunter

I read in a review about Top Spin 2 that you finally get to do something you couldn't in TP1....save during a tourney. If that is indeed true, then that's a big positive for the game.

Speaking of 360 games, I have a question. For multiplatform games, I think we'll go for the 360 version if they are just $10 more. What about the ones that are $20 more? Will you still go for the 360 version of a game if the current-gen version is only $40?
Cuddly Knife
04-17-2006, 11:40 AM
Probably. With games like Tomb Raider where the graphics are far better than those of PS2 or XBOX, I'd definitely get the 360 version. I am a graphics whore at heart after all. 20 bucks isn't that big a deal to me, like when there have been times that I've re-bought a game for 20 dollars after originally paying full price for the old one, just so I can beat the game again one time and sell it back.
Also, I totally am loving the achievement deal. Even if it is just for funzies it adds an extra layer to games that just isn't there for PS2 and XBOX games, at least for me. So that's extra for me wanting the 360 versions.
Fivespot
04-17-2006, 12:45 PM
Me too. I'd buy the 360 version over the last-gen edition just for having the additional achievements available.
That being said however, I still tend to shy away from games that have very similar versions between XBOX/PS2 and the XBOX360. It's a matter of principal I suppose; I'd rather support companies who make next-gen games that aren't just simple ports.

Oh I got GW within a week of getting my 360. I didn't need to demo that game.
It did take me awhile to start playing GW Evolved however. GW Retro was what I was mainly interested in. I swear the game is different from the PGR2 game tho'! I can't score jack on this version - I'm lucky if I break 20k. Wha' happen?! You know what I think it is? The bullets curve. I don't remember them doing that in the PGR2 version. Anyhow, now that I noticed that, I hate it. I'm done with GW Retro forever.
So now all I play is GW Evolved. But I still suck at that game too. I'll never break a million. Never. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. (Even if I probably should be.) My goal is just to break 250k. And then maybe someday down the road, 500k. Maybe. I don't think I'll ever survive a minute without shooting either; I've sure tried for that achievement enough.
Mutant Storm Reloaded was okay. Too similar to GWE tho'. And I can't allow myself to be diverted from GW until I get a respectable score.
I need to go play those games some more. Oblivion pretty much obliterated my Live Arcade playing. I've unlocked all the achievements that I can in those games also, so they've pretty much become filler. Where the hell's Hoopworld?! Where the hell's Street Fighter?!

I love that game (Hexic)! At first I felt lame playing it - I mean there's nothing next-gen about it,you know? But after I started understanding it, and I got over that pompous attitude, I started recognizing it. And I love the game's music - so subtle as it is - so catchy!
I am not that good at the game tho'. I've only gotten two black pearls in my whole lifetime - and they were not in the same game. Hah! I will never get that cluster of black of pearls. No way. I imagine my scores are so high because I've put a lot of time into the game - not because of talent or anything. One of the achievements for the game is for completing 100 games; I'll get that achievement no problem, and not for the sake of getting it either - I'll get it because I love playing it. Where's the achievement for 500 games? Now that'd be something to try for.
And I can't believe the game was friggin' FREE!

Oblivion has killed all my games. I just clocked my 95th hour. 88 of which have been straight in a row. I've almost had thoughts about putting something else in recently - but when I get downstairs I've got virtual blinders on. And where I usually pause for a couple of games of XLA (usually Hexic or GWE) after turning on my 360, it's now straight to Oblivion. Still.

It's a beautiful game to look at and trippy to boot with all the colors and such (trails off the ships, psychedelic visuals, etc..). But those same graphics are what kills me. Especially when the screen starts to bend and twist with the thick bullets (if you know what I'm talking about).
I have a hard time concentrating on my ship being careful to watch directly into front of me. I've learned over time that by making circles around the board constantly, I can focus a little better on what's directly in front of me.
Is that the key - focussing directly on the ship and ignoring all the other craziness?

Since I'm either PS2 or 360, the $10 difference for a port with nothing more than graphics and achievements doesn't bother me. The $20 difference? I dunno. I guess it depends on the type of game, and how much interest I really have in it.
It's kind of funny, I asked the question about the $20 difference and I'm having a hard time answering it. I'll have to, if I decide I want to get Hitman: Blood Money.

I have FNR3 and so does Fiveski. I just unlocked my final achievement on it yesterday. For the first half of the game, I was able to beat the crap out of the enemy by brawling, but then, I started to get wupped on, so I actually had to learn how to fight. I had to learn a few different styles also, because the enemies fight a lot different from each other. Excellent game. I haven't taken it Live though.
I might have to today, though, because I can't get a single match going in Burnout. Never mind, it might've just fixed.

YES!!! I finally did it! Ohohohoho, and by .5 a second, I tell you what. The achievement chime was near simultaneous with the sound of my ship getting blowed up. I thought they might not count it. It's a good thing it's not NFL referees calling the game, otherwise the call would have been reversed for sure.
I'm smiling like the proverbial cheshire cat over here. :D
Yet at the same time, I feel kind of sad. Now that I've got that achievement under my belt, there's no real point in trying for it anymore. It certainly doesn't help the overrall score. The thing is, is that I thought it was real fun. I felt like Barry Sanders. I wish they had a leaderboard for it. I wish I had a real reason for wanting to go back to it. :(

Don't ask me. I frequently lose track of my ship. And that tail - that exhaust/fire tail - coming out the back of the ship doesn't help things. Why earlier today, I was off by about a real-life foot - looking at the wrong spot on the screen! :o Probably explains why I suck, huh?
And I know exactly what you're talking about with those damned wide bullets and the warping of the screen. I hate that. If I had the option, I would choose to never initialize those particular bullets. This is real lame of me to admit this, but for the longest time I was getting killed by the blue diamonds - the blue frickin diamonds! - when the large-bullet-triple-shot was in effect - because I couldn't see them. I have to make a very specific point to look out for them when that power-up is in effect. I do love the machine gun triple-shot tho'. You're invincible with that.

Regarding Hexic HD...
Cuddly said I had him topped on the Marathon leaderboard - but he gives me too much credit. Because what he conveniently failed to mention was that he has me bested - by quite a bit - on the other two (Timed and Survival).
If you're in the top 3000 on those two leaderboards, CK, then you have to figure you'd be much higher on the Marathon too - should you choose to concentrate on it. I was looking, and it will take a score of about 600k to break into the top 3000. (El numero uno has a ridiculous score of over 8 million - a good 3 million over number two!) I don't think that will be too much of a problem for you.

Funny story- I got the 'survive a minute achievement' by accident. I was actually trying to figure out the gist of this game and at one point was trying to see if flight patterns around the board mattered. So I started circling the board and was laughing at the long tail of ships behind me. The harder it got, the funnier it got and I started to enjoy my goofing off by not shooting.
Next thing I know, voila, I got that achivement. Not a proud moment actually because I got that w/no prob yet suck at everything else in this game. Kind of like a realization that my shooting must really suck :(
Now I need to start practicing my shooting.

Geometry Wars Evolved- 1. I find it easier to circle clock-wise about three inches away from the edge of the screen, making sure to not get close to the edge because they(the Geometrites, as I like to call the race of shapes) spawn-trap you more often.
2. I also prefer the slower spread-shot over the machine gun-triple, because it does more damage in a concentrated and ranged area. It's also easier to take out the black holes with it.
3. It's a good idea to try and clear enemies in the spot that you plan on being at in one second. I usually keep my guns shooting in a "wave" type pattern. Especially handy with the little buggetrites that spawn from the corners of the wall and the snaketrite guys.
4. Collision detection is your best friend in this game. You can get insanely close to enemies without them hitting you, so take advantage of the ability to create tight squeezes.
5. It's better to Rush 'N Attack then to try and run from enemies while attacking them from behind your ship, if that made sense. Especially if things are going crazy.
My troubles start at about 800,000 points, because then the enemies come at you non-stop. And the little bugs that come out of the corners in the hundreds every fifteen seconds doesn't make it any easier, by gum. I'm 200,00 points away from the Survive 1,000,000 points achievement. It was easier to get the nine lives achievement than the nine bombs one. I barely got that one a coupla days ago.
The first achievement I got was the 60 second no-hitter.
(El numero uno has a ridiculous score of over 8 million - a good 3 million over number two!) I don't think that will be too much of a problem for you.
I've noticed that about pretty much every Live Arcade game that I have. The same goes for Burnout Revenge. Like the Revenge guy, the others must know of some kind of exploit for the game. BTW, if you ever get the game, check out my scores on Mutant Storm Reloaded. THey'ev dropped off a bit since I pretty much quit going for high scores, but at one point, I was ranked 16 in the world on Tally mode, and 33 on Adventure mode. I just like to brag about that, because that's out of tens of thousands of gamers. I can't remember my rank for Geometry Wars Retro, though.

New downloads for games.
Burnout Revenge
XBOX Live car
Alienware car
Dolby car
Monster car
Plantronics car
Spike TV car
Yellowcard car
All for free! They probably all suck, compared to the Revenge Racer.
PGR3
Speed Pack- twelve new cars, or you can buy them individually for 60 points each.
DOA4
"Which is Itagaki? Footage of TI, as he battles in his own creation." 2 matches, but I can't tell which is which. I think I could take them once or twice, even though I'm not that good.

I finally got PGR3. There are two things I had no idea were in the game: 1) Test driving any car besides the locked concept cars. Man, talk about not having to play 20+ hours of racing like in Gran Turismo just to hop in one of the high performance cars. It felt great being able to take a Lamborghini priced at over $100,000 (maybe more) to the test track, only to go head first into the wall during a turn. :) 2) Creating your own courses. This alone gives the game a huge amount of replay value since I'll tire of the game's courses after a while. This game also gives me a reason to play my custom soundtrack. It didn't feel right using it in the Mansion of Tomb Raider.
My only disappointment was the lack of a certain Lotus Elise car that wasn't in the game. There's an expensive Lotus in the game, but I was looking for a body style close to one that was in Forza (I'm thinking in the C grade of cars).

I'd really like to get PGR3 again, but I know that I'd play it a while, then go back to playing Revenge. That's happened with every racing game I've had since Takedown.

The crappy part(for me, anyways) is that I could've totally crushed his score and possibly have gotten 6 black pearls(assuming no bombs trapped me) if I hadn't been blazed out and gone for the win. I had forgotten about the 6 pearls until after I ended my game and checked out which achievement I unlocked(3 pearls[Big Cheese of the South Seas] to win the game, so I thought if I won, maybe it would let me keep going?), so if I had known that winning the game wouldv'e ended the game, I would've kept going. Don't make that mistake, Glockstar!.

I also saw on your sig Glock that you are really into Achievement points. Me too. Do you have certain expectations of getting those points, or are you just whatever about them really. My mission is to gain at least a third of the overall points avaliable to me in my games. That will be kind of hard now, because I no longer have PGR3(I will get it again when it drops 20 bucks or so), PDZ, and I'm sure that will happen more when I get games that I just don't get into(like PDZ).
I've unlocked 223 achievements so far. I'm barely over the halfway mark. 5640/10270
Still a lot of things to do, and that is what is making this system is truly next-gen.

You're doing better than me on the achievements. I have 1690 points, but that's from a possible 10000 (probably bigger). Most of the games I have played (13) were either rentals or games that were return-able. The few remaining still have a lot of achievements that need to be...achieved.

To be totally honest with you, I'm not really that into Achievements. I mean, I'm not obsessed over them or anything. I just think they're cool as hail! But, yeah, when I pop in a new game and look at the list of available achievements, I do it mostly out of curiousity. And I can tell right from the get go that there are going to be 1/3 to maybe even 1/2 of them that I am just not going to have an interest in getting.
But I'm old school. I basically started playing videogames in the arcades. And in the arcades - in the beggining - it was all about getting the High Score, or making the Leaderboard. That's ingrained in me. (Though you wouldn't know it, judging by rank in games these days. :p ) Starting with Super Mario Bros., videogames started getting more objective based. Which is cool. But I always liked it when they found a way to include scores in a game. That's the reason why I have such an affinity for the otherwise mostly-mediocre Serious Sam. It's one thing I wish Halo had. Seeing this resurgence on Xbox Live Arcade gives me great joy. It really is like a worldwide arcade!
And Achievements are like an extension of that. They're an ingenious way of making a leaderboard-ish thing out of meeting objectives. Next-gen indeed! It is all so cool!

If Glock is at one end of the achievement spectrum (easy going but thinks they're cool) and CK on the other end (wants to earn a high % of available achievement points), I'm somewhere in the middle.
I, like Glock, want to take it easy but find myself, like CK, enthralled into earning the achievements. That being said however, I'm not sure I have the available time, energy, or patience to earning a high %. I'm simply happy advancing my score by beating a game here and there. I won't necessarily go back and play some games just to earn the achievements although I'm more tempted to replay games due to them (if that makes sense).
Let's take COD2 for example. I beat the game on normal and then checked out some multiplayer. After getting burnt on both (initially the multiplayer SUCKED), I went back and started working back through the game on the hardest difficulty to try and earn those additional achievements. I made it about 3-4 levels in and then gave up and moved on (too many games to play one exclusively), but I would still like to go back and get the remaining achievements.
I finished the Outfit yesterday and missed a few achievements during the campaign but have no intentions on going back and getting all of those. Maybe I'll give some of the online achievements a shot instead.
Burnout Revenge is a slow crawl for me but I'm making my way through. I struggle to get a perfect on all the burning lap races (grrr), but will continue trying due to the game being fun but also due to achievements.
All in all, I love achievements. I'm losing more time to videogames than ever before (not counting pre-adulthood of course).

Same here. I grew up on the early Arcade shooters, so these days getting high scores are almost always on my mind no matter what game I'm playing. If there is no score to beat or show your progress, then I go for fastest time(on games that have both, I usually go for speed before score, assuming games aren't on a pre-determined speed for certain levels like shooters. That goes for any side-scrolling action game. I don't think I've ever gone for score in a Mario game. 7 minutes to beat Super Mario Bros, though.
That's also why I love Ninja Gaiden Black. You can beat the game(maybe) and then you can see where you rank with the rest of the Gaiden players around the world. Then there's Mission Mode, where you can play individual stages with the sole purpose of obtaining the highest score possible.
And Achievements are like an extension of that. They're an ingenious way of making a leaderboard-ish thing out of meeting objectives. Next-gen indeed! It is all so cool!
I knew it was something special when I beat the most single-player game in the world(Condemned) and it took me to a leaderboard where I was ranked 6000. From that point on, I was hooked on achievements and keeping the lead amongst my Friends list.
Let's take COD2 for example. I went back and started working back through the game on the hardest difficulty to try and earn those additional achievements. I made it about 3-4 levels in and then gave up and moved on, but I would still like to go back and get the remaining achievements. And that is the beauty of the achievement system. You can do what you wish with the game, but having the achievements avaliable gives extra incentive to come back and play through the game some more. I know I like to occasionally pop in COD2 and try to advance past the next section, knowing that if I do it, I'll get a sweet 60 points. Same for Geometry Wars, and Hexic, and if Oblivion wouldn't have had achieves, then I would probably be only about halfway through the whole game.
Maybe I'll give some of the online achievements a shot instead.
I wish FNR3 had some online achieves, because that would give me purpose to go get wupped on a little bit.
I also wish the online achieves for Revenge would've been harder to get. Except for the impossible getting your clip on the top 20 most watched. At least they reset the vids every week, so other will have a chance to get the points. Also, the arch-rival achieve is a mother. Tangle with a single opponent 100 times? And I would've had my Most Wanted points if people wouldn't keep quitting the rooms before I get my final takedown.

One of my favorite XLA games (well, I only have four - but I love all of them!) is Outpost Kaloki X. The way they do the Achievements and Leaderboard thing is especially cool. See, in order to pass a chapter, or scenario, you have to do a certain thing in a certain amount of time. Then, based on your time, you get one of three awards: bronze, silver, or gold medals. In most cases, you unlock the Achievement just by snaking past the minimum (getting a bronze medal ; or simply by making it past a certain point in the story - tho' there are a few Achievements that are based on getting a gold medal time, as a miminum). But in order to make the scenarios' Leaderboard you have to have a gold medal time.
Making the Leaderboard: that's what it's about, for me.
One bad thing tho': One of the Achievements is broken. Achievement #11 in Outpost Kaloki X reads: "Eight-Port Master - Master of The Eight-Port Challenge: 15 points". Well, nobody has this Achievement unlocked. Nobody! Not even Number 1 on the Leaderboard! And this scenario was a real bizzy too. It was hard just to get a Bronze. I kept playing it, wanting to make the Leaderboard, but even as I kept improving my times and moving up medal brackets I never heard that... boy, how do you describe the sound of that Achievement bell?... sound go off, or see the notice flash on my screen. Even tho' I earned it! So I kept playing it some more, trying to figure out what the heck I had to do to get that damned Achievement. The one time... Over and over and over again - I was up all night one night trying to get it.(!) Never got it. I finally stopped to check out everybody else's scores, and look at their GamerCards too, to see what the heck. That's when I figured it out; that I was never going to get it. I was pissed. You'd think there'd be a lot of pissed off people, but it still isn't fixed.

There's one thing I don't do when I play a new game, and that's check out how to gain the achievement points. For example, with PGR3, I didn't know there was an achievement earned by taking photos of your car in each city. Simple, but that's something I wouldn't have considered doing if I didn't check.
I do like Tomb Raider's achievements the best, of the few games I've played. Everything in there (besides beating the game on hard) I would have done naturally, especially since it ties in with unlocking stuff.

OK guys, definitely the best gun is the slower wide-spread shot. When you get to about 600,000 points, the enemies come at you in the hundreds it seems, and the only thin powerful enough to tear through swarms of enemies is with the wide-spread. You are literally tearing a space open an inch ahead of you, while less than half an inch separates you from the rest of the enemies all around you. You know how on the title screen there is mad explosions going on and also there is a condensed spinning mass of the starry stuff? Well, at about 600,000 points, imagine that covering a third of your screen almost all the time with nothing but enemies and explosions and chaos and bliss.

I think that I am still playing LA more than my regular 360 games(except for Revenge, of course). Unlocking achieves in Zuma Deluxe is a mother, so that one's always on my radar, and of course, I like to go back and play Marble Blast ultra and Mutant Storm Reloaded a lot. Street Fighter 2, UMK3, and Hoopworld look to be making my infatuation with LA all the more when they come out. Although, I'll probably avoid all the other Midway games that'll be coming out(except for Paperboy, which is one of three games that my girl will play with me.

Next, you'll get to 500,000, then you'll Survive 250,000, then you'll get the Mad Cat Skillz achieve, then you'll score a cool mil, then you'll unlock Quartermaster, and so on...

I went to Gamestop recently, and out of curiosity, I asked how much trade credit for a couple of games, including PGR3. $16 dollars!!! That's it, and it's still used for $45 Even worse, PD0 is only $10. $10 dollars trade in value for a next-gen game!! That's less than some current-gen games that came out at the same time.
I will say this. I know PD0 and PGR3 were launch games and started off at $50, but if games are going to start dropping that low, then (unless I'm covering a mistake game by trading it within a month of purchase... *cough GRAW cough*) my trading days are pretty much over. I usually don't trade games unless I know of deals that are going down, then I'll trade a bunch at once. My not-so-local Gamestop always runs deals on getting an extra 10% on trade-ins, plus using the Gamestop card, plus when you sell 3, you get ten extra dollars(credit is alway better), so you come out better than trying to sell a couple at a time. I've thought about this. It has to be the Achievements I want. Because if all I was interested in was the individual stories and their special endings, and to set personal bests in time attack modes and such, and unlock extra costumes and whatnot, then I'd just play DOA3 (instead of going out and spending $60 on what is basically the same game). But now, after playing DOA4 I find myself looking at DOA3 with... well, almost disdain - even tho' I think it's the better game. Why?! Because of that extra incentive that DOA4 has with it's Achievements.

Tomb Raider will make you have second and third playthroughs, if you're looking to get some achieves off it. There's the Hard Adventure one, plus each time trial, and an extra achieve if you beat them all. Note- I did eveything without activating any cheats.
I pretty much played the game through 4 times, if I include the time trials, which I do. ASAP, I'll probably be dumping this one off to get decent credit for it while it's new-ish. Wow. You're not counting XLA games are you? Because there are only 35 games available right now. You already own half the library! At that pace you're going to end up with over 300 360 games!
No, I'm not counting XBLA games in the 17 total. Including those I have 28 or 29 (can't remember but I believe I have either 10 or 11 arcade titles). Having so many albeit a bragging point, kind of sucks because I have too many games to play.
Great games like DOA4, PGR3, and COD2 (as examples) are sitting unplayed although I hope to change that real soon.
Glad you liked the Gamertag sig - I'll have to put that in there again. I removed it for change sake. I get bored easy hence my constantly rotating Gamer Picture. Plus, I've been playing some DS lately and my sig almost makes it seem like I play only 360 exclusively when that is far from the truth.

After that, there's only 4 more games that I'd even think about getting. Burnout Revenge; Condemned; Tomb Raider Legend; and Call of Duty 2.
Yeah, that's right, I don't own COD2. I know, I'm like the only one in the universe. To tell you the truth, I don't even know if I really want it; I think the only reason I list it is because I've heard so many good things about it.
I only have 3.
Burnout Revenge is on sale for $49.99....somewhere. I posted the sale at "Bargain Hunter's" thread, but I don't remember which store. Tomb Raider has been on sale as well lately, but I don't know if it's this week or not.
I don't have CoD2 either. My lack of enjoyment for FPS made me ignore the title until I got a free demo. Now, along with Black, I actually want this FPS. There's action, action, and more action, to the point where I almost forget that I can only see my character's gun and nubby fingers. I'm not sure when I'll get this title, though. If I don't get it soon, I may wait until it finally drops in price.

FYI - the additional COD2 maps are rumored to cost $20. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think they will be free.
Considering a $20 price tag, are you still excited to get the new maps and take it online? I'm not sure they're worth that much to me although $5 wouldn't be too bad (and even then I'd think about it before making a purchase).

Ouch! Unless the conent is like Halo 2(ten or more maps), I won't be getting them. Eventually they'll be free, though, right?
That's why I like Far Cry these days for online. User made maps makes for some crazy levels. All for free.

I don't know what the plan is with regard to the COD2 maps - nothing has been publically stated other than new maps will be released during the week of E3 (at least from all that I've read). Not sure if they'll take the same approach as Bungie with the maps becoming free after a specific length of time.
How is Far Cry otherwise (how is the gameplay, graphics, etc...)? Sounds like the map editor is sweet but what about the rest?

Well, Lost Planet just jumped on my must-have list, and I don't even have a must-have list!
This game is killer. I thought it was all mech action, but the levels I played were on foot. of course, I didn't beat the levels, on one I got killed by a crazy-ass creature, and the second level I got raped by mechs. Explosions galore! This is the way I like my 3rd person shooters to handle. I don't think it's as smooth as Mercenaries, but pretty damn close. And thank Jeebus for control sensitivity adjustment!

I should've just called this one CK's progress thread.
Last night, I was trying to beat my Adventure score on Mutant Storm Reloaded(12,159,180 with a rank of 34. #1 rank has 86,508,790!), but I couldn't get past 10 mil, so I decided to try out some Tally mode to see if I could get ahead of a guy who was 5,000 points ahead of me in score. I was also ranked 24th with a score of about 20,700,000ish points. So I played a few matches, and noticed that I was beating my top scores in each level, but I really didn't think it was that much until I checked the Leaderboards and saw that my score went up to 21,039,760 with a rank of 19! I'm so pumped, because at one point I was ranked 16, but I had under 20 million points, so when my rank started to drop, I thought there would be no way for me to get back in the top 20. Not too bad. The number one rank has a score of 24,212,960. My original goal in the game was to get at least 20 mil, but I passed that, so now I'm going to concentrate on beating Adventure mode without losing all of my lives. I only have that one achieve before I get all 200 points.

Like I've said several times before - you are the KING of twitch style gaming (Burnout, Geometry Wars, Ninja Gaiden, Mutant Storm Reloaded, etc..).
My high score in Mutant is downright embarrassing compared to yours. Same with Geo Wars. Oh well, I'll keep trying.
With both Geo Wars and Mutant Storm Reloaded, I tend to lose sight of my ship while being distracted by the bright, HDTV colors and graphics going on (it's hypnotizing at times). That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ;)

Next up: Score 250,000 on 1 life. And I think I can do that. I died a stupid death before 10k in that game where I broke 250k, but then went on to around 215k before dying again. I just need to hang on a little while longer...

Just in case you guys never browse the picture Gallery, I decided to post this up for all to see. I'm now shooting for a 22 million score for Tally Mode. Now if only I could beat the Black belt difficulty all the way through to unlock my last achieve. That might actually be harder than getting 22 mil...
Plus, my rank in GWE has dropped by the hundreds because I can't get past 3.2 mil. I'm about to be kicked off the top 1,000. Grrr, the competition on that game is too intense, and that means I'll have to stop playing MSR to get at least 5 mil in GWE.

Five has Dead Rising. How about some impressions? I would be playing it, but of course, my Wally-World hasn't gotten the game in yet. That's the only thing that limits my gaming.
Other than that, I've been improving my scores in other games(I recently crushed my Mutant Storm score), and I've been trying to unlock some more achievements for older games. For example, I've been playing a lot of Hexic, not to beat my high score(which I think I can), but to get my achieve for 100 games played. I thought by now I would've already hit that mark, but no dice. I think I like it better than Tetris, because it's all your own pace. Great game, Hexic is.
It's not that there isn't anything new to play, it's just that I haven't gotten bored of what I do have. With the right groups of people, DOA4, Burnout Revenge and Far Cry are some of the funnest games I've played.

I thought about Dead Rising, but something in a preview (later true in a few reviews) let me know that I should pass on it. Capcom's next 360 title, Lost Planet, looks promising by the demo that I finally got to play a few weeks ago. The only thing about the game I would complain about is the main character's foot speed when he's not in the snow. Seem slike it could be a bit faster.
I decided to take another look at Crackdown. I'm still not a fan of cel-shading, but at least it doesn't look as crappy as most of the PS2/Xbox cel-shaded games.
I haven't played Hexic in months. It was fun, though.

I still have some achievements to unlock on all four of my 360 games, but honestly, I would rather they unlock without expecting it (like in the 28 of 50 I've unlocked in NCAA 07 so far). I tried to unlock one in NCAA's mini-game and became so frustrated that I'll never play that mini-game again.
I noticed that Ridge Racer 6 is $20 new ($18 used) at Gamestop/EB. I've never played a RR game, so I can't recommend it to anyone, but I'm curious if it's decent or not. May be better off waiting until next month instead.

Five has Dead Rising. How about some impressions?
Dead Rising is a beat 'em up style game not too different from games like State of Emergency or Streets of Rage. It also somewhat resembles GTA with it's open sense of slaughter/mayhem grab anything and use it as a weapon.
The most fun I've had so far is experimenting with weapons. Some are brutal and effective (2x4, knives, baseball bats, steel poles) while others are slow and clunky (cash registers, wall benches, garbage cans). Each weapon has it's own characteristics keeping battles from becoming too repititive (phew).
Gameplay is challenging but not Ninja Gaiden by any stretch. Your character levels up using a points system. Points are earned for killing x number of zombies and for taking good pictures (brutal, drama, erotic, zombies, etc..).
Different gameplay elements like taking pictures adds to the overall depth of the experience and keeps the game from becoming stale like State of Emergency for example.
I'm only a short way into Dead Rising and are enjoying it thus far. It's too early to give it a grade but I'll go with a B based on my experiences so far. I disagree with some of the low scores I've seen.

Good mini-view, Five. I was wondering if it was going to be as ghetto as SoE, but it looks like the weapon variety will keep it from becomming. The demo was solid, but after playing it, I figured it for a pretty shallow game, but That must be because all they let you do in the demo is slaughter a few zombies.
Really, the only legit complaint about the game I've seen so far is the save system. I read that they made the game that way to force you into multiple play-throughs, but that it isn't a bad thing, because of the many ways to take out your foes.

You're right, the save system kind of sucks. Makes the game harder than it needs to be but maybe that's a good thing depending on how long/short the game ends up being. I've replayed many sections and have only progressed a tiny bit with games saves. I'm learning how to save more frequently however having discovered where some of the save points are located (mall restrooms).
I mentioned previously that you can earn level points (called PP in the game) by taking pics and slaughtering zombies. You also get points for many other things - thought I'd clarify.

The biggest thing I read about Dead Rising that turned me away was....whenever it's about time for a mission file, if you don't get there in time, it doesn't come back and you'll have to load the game again if you wanted to finish the main story. Have you had to deal with anything like that so far, Five?

I haven't gotten far enough yet to have this become an issue but it's true that the game is timed so if you don't get far enough by a certain time - a need to start over could occur.
You only get one save file and keep overwriting with every new save. If you miss something or fall behind in time, I'd imagine you might have to start over. I've already missed saving a few people and would have to play the game again in order to correct that mistake.

OK, here's the deal. I've had enough time with Dead Rising to post a little more detail.
The game rocks. It has a frustrating save system as I've documented in prior posts but that is overcome by quirky, fun gameplay. Not to mention the zombie killin' - pure joy using many different weapons. That being said, I don't want to front, this isn't game of the year or anything.
Let me use the movie industry for a sec. in order to draw a comparison. Dead Rising is like Evil Dead 2 in the movie biz. It's not an Oscar winning movie but still a fave of many people (cult classic to many). You can see the nylon cords, 2x4's and such when watching ED2 but that doesn't ruin the experience (for most fans that is).
I view Dead Rising the same way. It isn't going to be high ranking or receive glowing scores but that doesn't take away form the fact that it's a fun game. It also has a similar campy feel to ED2 which really makes DR shine for me.
It will probably take me forever to beat this game due to my not making much progress each hour session I play (due to saves) but that won't keep me from playing it a ton. Now I need to play some more Prey as well.
I've been too damn busy lately and my gaming time is suffering :(

You got that right. There's almost no way I can recommend the games that I either buy or plan to buy, especially when my mind's usually made up before reviews come out. Also, I just don't like telling anyone what to buy with their money, even if it's a good game. I did pimp Mercenaries, but I really didn't think that would have any affect.

I think NCAA 07 is great. My first copy kept freezing, and pretty much pissed me off. Luckily, I was told that "some" of the copies did that and got one that doesn't really give me a problem (2 freezes in 2 seasons compared to a freeze in 2 out of every 3 games). As far as the gameplay, it's definitely next-gen, something I have needed. I dogged the Xbox/PS2 college football games to the point where they weren't competitive. This changes all of that (Heisman mode is....well, don't expect to win or even be close in games on that level unless you're really good). As far as the features, the only thing that disappoints me is the lack of being able to discipline players. I used that as a substitute to a lack of injuries in these football games nowadays, but I'll have to wait for that feature in a future game. I think Madden 07 will be good, but I'll always choose college football games over pro.

But I just got done playing the demo, and my impressions of the game are that it seems like it's worth a $100.(!) No sooner was I finished then I had my keys in hand and was half-way out the door with the express intention of immediately heading to the closest gamestore and buying the game... But then stopped myself. I want this game; I want to play this game right now... but I'm already in the middle of so many others - something would have to get cut out. So in this case, it's not a money issue, it's an issue of time. Which, in turn, makes it a money issue - indirectly - I guess. Because my gaming plate is full with games that I've already plopped money on - spending $50-$60 on a game that I don't have room for right now really doesn't make sense. I best wait.

I'm going to be doing that a lot for most of my Holiday games since I'm not in the pre-ordering mood. I'll be on the lookout on Sundays for any sales, and if it does pop up, I'll post it in the Bargain Hunter's Thread.

Yeah, Prey was on sale at Best Buy this past week (sale price = $50 / sale ends today)... and after Dead Rising, that's the 360 game I want most - and I want it really bad. But as with Dead Rising, I just don't have time for the game right now; even with the advantage of the sale price it just wouldn't be a smart purchase.
Same goes for NFL Head Coach. That's another game I've been wanting to get into real bad, and I've been seeing it on sale several times over the past few weeks - but again, no time for it. :(

I may be alone here but I think Prey is OK (not great). After playing my way through the first couple levels, the game seems to have fallen into the usual FPS traps and is just another title in that regard. Prey starts strong and drops off after a few levels. I'm having a hard time going back to play it.

I'll agree with that Five, only it does get a little better towards the end. The pacing reminds me of God of War. Great start, ho-hum middle, and solid last quarter, but it still falls short of the other greats in the genre. Still better than Doom 3, I say.

Wow, (to me) that's saying something.
Before I hear what you have to say about Prey, Five, I have to know what you thought of Doom 3...

I liked Doom 3 a lot. It did start to get boring towards the end however. Prey starts strong as hell and if it would have stayed that way the game would be much more enjoyable. It just seems too much like Doom 3 at times (corridor style FPS, hellish/demon enemies, lots of blood and gore, etc..).
Maybe I'm just burnt on corridor shooters.

This is my first Madden game since 96 on the SNES, so I will get murdered by everyone.

I picked up my copy today. By preordering at Toys 'R Us I also got a free $10 gift certificate which I plan to use on another game. I noticed they were also selling strat guides at 50% if you also purchased the game - pretty sweet deal although I didn't buy one.

Wow, the 360 is really starting to pick up.(!)
Here's what's scheduled to come out between now and before the holiday season starts (release dates and prices according to GameStop):
8/29 = Bomberman Act Zero ($49.99); Enchanted Arms
8/30 = Time Pilot (XLA)
9/5 = Test Drive Unlimited ($39.99)
9/6 = Scramble (XLA)
9/12 = NHL 07; NHL 2K7; Lego Star Wars II ($49.99)
9/19 = Samurai Warriors 2 ($49.99); The Godfather; Timeshift; World Series of Poker:Tournament of Champions ($39.99 / not to be confused with Texas Hold'Em - the Xbox Live Arcade game - that's coming out today!); Xbox Live Vision (the 360 camera peripheral / $39.99 or $79.99)
9/26 = NBA Live 07; NBA 2K7; Just Cause
10/3 = nothing
10/10 = nothing
10/17 = Crackdown; Splinter Cell Double Agent; Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07
10/24 = Marvel Ultimate Alliance; Phantasy Star Universe
10/31 = Official Xbox 360 Wireless Headset ($59.99)
The games and peripherals I put in bold are the items that I will most likely be getting ASAP.
There's two weeks there where we don't get anything... but considering all that's coming out before that, that could be a good thing: we might need the break. Anyhow, that's 20 games in 10 weeks. Plus 2 very intriguing accessories.

8/29 = Bomberman Act Zero ($49.99); Enchanted Arms; Saints Row - GS probably didn't have it because I was told they and EB actually received it Aug 22, but can't sell it until Aug 29. Though I doubt anyone but me cares :D

Just to keep track, my games look to be Saint's Row, Test Drive, Just Cause, Marvel: UA and of course GoW in Nov. I think those should (hopefully) be solid games, but it's a very lite roster for me compared to past years (March Madness could jump on the list as well). I think I'm Splinter Cell-ed out for another one so soon, and Crackdown may be a better slow period/price drop game for me if it turns out to be decent. Overall, this could be a lite Holiday season for me.
My non-360 games I'm interested in are FFXII, Zelda (GC) and Justice League Heroes, which I think has a shot of being a better game than Marvel:UA. I'll probably just get JLH and wait on the rest.
Also, I skipped Madden, but I found it funny how a sports talk show I listen to did a segment on all time fav game due to Maddenoliday. Most of the games talked about were from Atari and Intellivision (?) or Colecovision (?) - Don't think I've ever seen the last two in person or a picture........ever.

I know I don't. :p I've got more interest in Viva Pinata than I do that game.
Overall, this could be a lite Holiday season for me.
The period too far off for the release dates to be accurate - so I pretty much ignore them. That said, I believe this holiday season is going to be nutso.(!) (But that's looking at it from an every-system perspective - as well as an Xbox Live Marketplace one.)
Also, I skipped Madden...
Say what!?
There's a headline for ya. That's gotta be one of the years most shocking developments. :p
Why, even I've been thinking about picking the game up. CC's price is awfully tempting...

I don't see much changing for me, unless a game or two gets the old delay. Too Human got it, but with Silicon Knights that was to be expected. I think the lack of wheeling and dealing is making my list lite. All those years (really just two) of finding a game worth getting because of extra trade bait is long gone since I don't deal with "that store", so I have to be extra cautious now. Even the old PS2, which is suppose to have tons of games still coming out, only has two maybe three games that I want at the most. I haven't had a lite Holiday season since the disapointment of '02 (or '03, whichever year the first Splinter Cell and Vice City came out).

If I didn't have and enjoy NCAA, I would have picked up Madden. Since San Diego is going to win the SB this year, I don't need to win it for them on the 360. :D
One other thing, Glock. That is one of the worse avatars ever! The only thing worse would have been the Redskins.

I've been saying to bring it on Burnout forever, but no one ever does. You need to get off of Ogre Battle's nuts. Or, I guess you are now. I thought I saw that you hadn't played your 360 in over 12 days. Is that about right?
So, Glock. How about your Stranger's Wrath impressions?

Noooo, I've been telling you you tell to bring it.
But that's only a part of my complaint, the other part - the biggest part - is that I couldn't get anybody to race against me online... every room/race I joined I'd get booted from.

Guess I won't be getting this game afterall...
Official Xbox Magazine = 40%
Electronic Gaming Monthly = 26.7%
Game Informer = 30.0%
Ouch.
I don't get the OXM or EGM anymore, so I don't know what they had to say about the game, but I do still get GameInformer, and what they had to say wasn't pretty: "Awful; embarassing; 'gives the finger to fans'; 'worst-looking game on the system'; offensive; sucks; catatastrophe; abomination"... are some of the choice words from the GI write-ups. :eek6:

Sorry guys but I'm burned out on Burnout at least for the time being. It's a fun series however! I have been playing NFSMW lately and will probably stick with that title for a while.
I've also been playing Madden 07, Texas Hold 'Em, and Dead Rising. Dead Rising is turning out to be more frustrating than I originally thought but still the game is a hoot to play. I need to sit down and spend a good couple hours on it in order to fully grasp it and advance further in the game. The trick however is finding the time to do so. I've put Dead Rising aside for the moment but plan on playing it in chunks for months to come (I hope).
I picked up a copy of Saint's Row yesterday but haven't yet popped it in. I enjoyed the demo and after reading a few reviews, I couldn't resist playing more than what the demo offered.
Anyone else picking up SR? I understand the online multiplayer is fun and innovative.
What have you all been playing and what titles do you anticipate picking up in the near future?

Anyone else picking up SR? I understand the online multiplayer is fun and innovative. I would like to, since everything I've read about it has been solid, but there might be too many other games out there that want my limited supply of funds.
What have you all been playing and what titles do you anticipate picking up in the near future?
Of course, I'm playing Revenge. I can never get tired of that game, and now, Burnout 3 Takedown is B/C, so that'll double my Burnout playtime. I just finished unlocking my favorite car, so it's on for some b/c racing!
Far Cry is always in the mix, but now I'm shooting for some achievements instead of running around admiring the user-made maps that I've downloaded.
There was also a patch released for SF2 Hyper, addressing the lag issues, and disabling(or attempting to) the way people can drop a match if they're losing. I think they also reset the ranks. I stopped playing that game because of those issues, so if they're fixed, then it's on.
Fatal Frame 2 also became b/c, so I'll be tearing into that one soon enough.
There are now over 300 games that are b/c. Now, I don't feel like those 6 gigs used for this were wasted.
As far as new games, I just picked up Time Pilot for LA. Seems like a modern version of Combat mixed in with a little bit of Fantasy Zone, only without the crazy fantasy.
I'm still interested in Enchanted Arms, even though it's gotten a few bad scores. The main things people say a wrong with the game is cliches all over the place That doesn't bother me none, as long as the game itself is solid.
Test Drive Unlimited- I'll get this one assuming that they've improved on the handling of cars.
I thought I wanted FEAR, but then I played the demo, and now I'm not so sure.
Lost Planet- 3rd person shooter goodness By then I should be done with...
...Gears of War- please live up to the hype. Please live up to the hype. Please.
Alan Wake- Have you guys seen the trailer? There is a real interesting gameplay mechanic with your parachute. Hopefully it works out well in actual gaming.
Crackdown
Lego Star Wars 2
SC: Double Agent- We still never got down with some VS for Chaos Theory...
Viva Pinata
I think all these games are slated for release this year, but I could be wrong. Plus, there's the Wii and possibly the PS3 to think about. Time to start saving my pennies, again.

After playing the demo of Just Cause, this game shot up to one of my most wanted games ahead of Saints Row, Dead Rising, Enchanted Arm, or anything else on the 360. It's super neat. The videos don't do the gameplay justice.
Glockstar

It actually went down a few pegs on mine. The controls felt too loose. I am keeping in mind that this was just a demo... but still, I think I want to wait and read a couple of reviews first now.
I should also add that the game is very reminiscent of Mercenaries. Which is probably a good thing - if you're all done with Mercs; but it's not so good if you're me, and you're right in the middle of the game.
Cuddly Knife
09-01-2006, 07:03 PM
I also thought it was a little like Mercs. It even has the whole keeping sides happy deal.
What was loose feeling, the shooting? The driving definitely was loose, but not too bad. Graphics were good, and it was fun connecting to cars, jumping off of cliffs and unleashing your shute, cruising on air for a while and landing on an unsuspecting car, or better yet, a helicopter, then taking the chopter up to 3000 and free-falling all the way to the floor. Great draw distance. Better than Far Cry, and the world map is freaking huge!
Did you complete all of your 4 objectives? At first I wasn't sure about the game, because I just ran around aimlessly and played in cars, like a good GTA fan, but then when I actually focused on the missions, it got ten times better.
No, I don't see how a 3rd-person shooter fan would not want to pick up this game based off of the demo. Maybe it's because I knew nothing of the game before playing the demo, so I didn't have any expectations, but the demo floored me.
NOTE - OK, I just played the game again, after a few hours of chill, so I could get a fresh perspective. It's just as good as the first time I played it, which shows me something. I couldn't play through Dead Rising more than twice before I deleted that demo.

Anyone else picking up SR?
What have you all been playing and what titles do you anticipate picking up in the near future?
I picked up Saint's Row Tuesday. It's fun, though I'm annoyed by two of the activities (hitman and carjacking). I also would like to go into every building in the game for absolutely no reason, but that's not the case. I also can't recreate my KOTOR Jedi chick for this game since you can only create a male character (I try to recreate the Jedi chick in games for a bit of a weird, Quantum Leap type of thing.)
Other games I've been playing:
Ninety-Nine Nights - A lack of a checkpoint or mid-game save is a bit frustrating, especially when I beat a boss and there's a little bastard henchman still alive on the level and they get in a cheapshot and kill me before I get the "Mission Complete" screen. Argh!!!!!!!! The cover girl character is the best of the three I've played so far.
Dirge of Cerberus - Honestly, I haven't touched this game in a week due to SR. It's solid (to me anyway, being a big 3rd person shooter fan), but I almost cursed Square for putting a Cait Sith level (very short, but very useless as well). The game isn't better than Devil May Cry, but I prefer the Vincent Valentine character more than Dante McNinja-Turtle of DMC3.
NCAA 07 - I just won the National Championship with Texas A&M University. Then I quickly left for another school (The wrong one, since they didn't suck as bad as I wanted them to). I was going to restart, but....
Madden 06 - ...for some reason, I have a need to play as the San Diego Chargers. College ball actually has made me better at this game, though I miss NCAA's kicking mechanic.
The near future looks like: Test Drive, Just Cause (unless there's something technically wrong with it), Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Gears of War. That's probably it for me i
