SONY KILLS PLAYSTATION PRODUCTION
POSTED: 3/27/2006 10:07 AM
After a decade of production, Sony has finally pulled the plug on PlayStation One production. The console was originally launched in Japan in December 1994, selling more than 100 million units worldwide.
The console was redesigned in 2000 - and dubbed the PSone. With PS2 and PS3 backwards compatibility and the fact that gamers would be able to download original PlayStation games for the PSP in the near future, PlayStation software will live on for quite some time.

Beginning this week, Microsoft will distribute two to three times the number of Xbox 360 consoles to the retail channel weekly. With component supplies in full production and third manufacturing partner Celestica Inc. now producing console along with partners Wistron Corp. and Flextronics Corp., Microsoft is producing more Xbox 360 consoles than they could before.
“Today we have turned a major corner,” said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “With more consoles on their way to retail, 80 games available by June, and new content and experiences coming to Xbox Live all the time, there has never been a better time to own an Xbox 360.”
On the Xbox Live front, Microsoft Game Studios confirmed new content for Project Gotham Racing 3, including new cars and achievements. Perfect Dark Zero players will have access to additional content, including downloadable multiplayer maps. In addition, Kameo: Elements of Power will be extended through new online cooperative gameplay options and new costumes for Kameo and her warriors.
