"A new report from Forrester Research has ranked Sony's brand as the most trusted among game hardware companies, and the third most trusted among electronics and computer companies.
The study stated, "Sony's current customers are affluent, young, and more likely than the general population to stick with a brand they like. Sony's [target customers} have a different profile: poorer than the general population, less brand loyal, and more likely to buy on price. To reach these 9.8 million households, Sony will have to tailor its marketing messages and retail presence to compete on price."
Microsoft suffered badly in the report, although this probably has little to do with its activities in the game industry. Here's the Forrester chart. Thanks to Joystiq.

More then likely, MS's hardware image has suffered because of the bugged as hell 360 launch. When you weren't downloading patches for just about every launch title, you were worrying about whether the patches would somehow adversely affect your X-box. Not to mention the February update whose sole reason was to weed out the bug ridden X-box's so MS could replace them without having to do a recall. I suppose it was bad for some of you suckers out there but for me, WOW, what good times.

Just another chance to sucker punch MS, huh? The article clearly states that MS' rep has little to do with their consoles. I don't know anyone that has had any issues with their 360, and neither have I.

Well yeah, granted Windows probably landed them all the way at the bottom but if you haven't heard the horror stories about the 360 then you haven't been paying attention. This launch seriously had to be the most bug ridden and rushed launch I've ever seen. There was even a thread over at team X-box about 360's breaking down after the February update was installed. And well, the less said about needing patches in games like DOA4, COD2 and others, the better. We can all see they were rushed to the market.

Does anybody here have any idea what he's talking about?

Waco probably does not that he'll admit it. I'm gonna have to wait at least a year until he sells his 360 and then comes back to the PS3. It's that same cycle Gamer 78 used to go through. I could set my watch to it.

Actually you are right in that I don't really pay attention any more. When it comes to reliable consoles the only one that I "trust" is Nintendo, but they are certainly a double-edged sword for me. Sony and MS are just as guilty to me of putting crappy product out there. The funny part will be when the PS3 releases a year later than the 360 and we all say how "rushed" the thing seems to be. Calling Sony "trusted" is is the same league as calling George Bush "trusted".

I don't trust anyone of them in terms of their PR. They are all huge liars. Especially sony, but especially Nintendo. Remember a few weeks ago when Lik Sang said there was a redesigned DS coming out and Nintendo flat out said "NO!" and then like three weeks or something later, boom, Nintendo says "looky what we got for you."
Hell, MS may be the best of the bunch. Aside from "The Zen of Gaming" stupidity, they haven't really said too many exageratory things about the 360. Maybe the 360 is so boring, even the MS PR people can't get themselves whipped up into a hype frenzy.

I don't know about this considering that my first GC crapped out on me and my DC has problems with the motor. The PS2 has been my most reliable console this gen albeit I no longer have the original unit since I gave it away.

You must have missed the lawsuit sony settled to repair all those ps2s with the crap laser. Most reliable?! WTF kind of drugs are you on? You think sony would have settled the lawsuit if there wasn't validity to the claims? Hell, they're still fighting the immersion lawsuit despite losing every challenge in court.
The only thing you can trust about sony is that sony won't meet any of their production targets for the ps3, the launch will be a fricking debaucle, and that playstation network will be delayed till 2007.
And quit flapping your gums about stuff you know nothing about, sony boy. I can pull up threads about sony gamers claiming GTA:SA killed their slimline ps2. There are always threads about this or that. I could post threads of MS's very fast turnaround time on repairs and how gamers received free wireless controllers as compensation for the down time.
As for me dumping the 360 for the ps3 in a year's time. Not bloody likely. So I can play untold legends? Resistance: Fall of Man, a goofy fps with some alien rejects from Men in Black 2. Nuh-uh. I'm down for games like GOW, Mass Effect, Too Human, Crackdown and whatever the hell Bungie is up to.
I keep my consoles around for a while, chump. I had a ps2 for 4 1/2 years, the xbox and gamecube for 3 years, so don't paint me as a gamer from 78 type, because its not going to work. The dreamcast I dumped within the first year, only because I could see the handwriting on the wall, and I decided to dump sega before sega dumped me. The psp, I'll admit was a mistake, but I stated going in, that I was taking a calculated risk. Didn't work out, and nothing the psp has done since last august has caused me to regret the decision. I still have my DS, although I haven't played it much since I got the 360. Most of my play time with the DS comes when I"m pinching a loaf.
I'd only pre-order a ps3 to cash in on ebay madness, and then only if I can get my hands on six or more. Otherwise, its just not worth it to me. I'm much more likely to pick up a revolution and Zelda:TP than a ps3. Much more likely. And the sad thing is, slade, is that you're not picking up a ps3 at launch, guaranteed. So, what are you talking about, willis. You're out there hyping a console you have no intention of buying till it drops in price and it has serious capcom loving in its game library. This ps3 posting mania of yours is a lot of smoke and mirrors routine.

That was a frivolous lawsuit and Sony settled because it would have been bad PR otherwise. Much like this following example shows:
I could post threads of MS's very fast turnaround time on repairs and how gamers received free wireless controllers as compensation for the down time.
Now, you can show similar examples for Sony but the big difference is that the Sony examples happened when huge numbers of PS2's were being produced. MS had its problems while only producing an armful of units and that's pathetic no matter which way you slice it.

You've done it with the PSP and if I'm right about you being who you are, you've probably done the same with PS2 and Xbox too. BTW, I'm not saying you'll get rid of the 360. I mean you'd have to be pretty dumb to do that. But, you will shelve it in favor of PS3.

I'm not buying it at launch because I've never bought a console at launch. 360 horror stories prove me right and I don't see Sony being different because while they might do production in house, not only do they have to supply greater demand but also they are manufacturing a more complex console then 360. However, six months later and regardless of price, that console will be mine.
