I also like that hot rod faceplate. Not only is it much cheaper than the gold version, but it's actually pretty sharp looking.

My favorite faceplate however is the Full Auto exclusive (only 2 per store given away w/preordered copies). It's a vertical plate for one which best supports my unit
and secondly, it's kind of rare. Although FA isn't my favorite game, I still dig the faceplate.

The COD2 one is also nice but it's designed in a horizontal position and wouldn't look the best when my unit stands vertical.

Wow !!! The Full Auto face plate is extremely sharp !!! And very rare ... did
a search on the net, but it's very hard to find. There's also some very cool
360 skins (face plate + side panels)

Some of the skins are too racy to post here, but this one I guess is rated
E for Everyone.

That "Hot Rod" one is the one that I got. Best Buy had one marked down 50%, as it was an opened item (I guess some shmo returned it). For $10, I said what the heck. I wouldn't have bought it if it was anymore than that.

It looks.... meh. The sides are still white - it only covers up the face, you know? Besides, I think the system looks sharp "as is".

Then again, I probably will spend $20 on a faceplate this fall... when I find the Green Bay Packer one. :D

was <i>going</i> to get. Yeah, I decided I'm not going to get that Hot Rod plate anymore.
Thanx for sharing the Meh-ness of the Hot Rod when it's on an actual 360 ! I think I'll
be going with a 360 skin so the sides are also in the same design as my 360 face plate.

I've got good news for ya Glockstar ... soon the official Greenbay Packers face plate
will be available from Mad Catz. I did some snooping around the Net and you can get
'em at Best Buy for around $20 !

About the side panels ... you could get the Packers face plate and custom design the

I had no idea faceplates were designed for horizontal or vertical. For the Full Auto (or any other that's already out) do they have one each for h and v?

Honestly, this was one accessory I was going to avoid big time, until you guys mentioned NFL faceplates. I'll only get one of two: the 2007 Super Bowl Champs San Diego Chargers (maybe 2008 since Rivers will be the QB this year) or Carolina Panthers.

Does it matter who makes the faceplates as far as the quality? I have avoided all 3rd party accessories for about 10 years now, and if I put a Madcats one on my 360, will it mess up the system in any way?

Was having a tough day and although I didn't have time for a lunch, I had a few minutes to get some fresh air and get the hell out of dodge. So I went to Best Buy for about 10 minutes to blow off some steam.

Of course I go straight to the game section and what do I see? A friggin' Full Auto faceplate for sale - $19.99. It's packaged in a black box labeled "Sega" w/out being even shrink wrapped. I guess it isn't so rare after all :(

Then I realized a few hours later that BB is probably selling the freebies. Wouldn't surprise me considering I seen the usually free COD2 faceplate at a different area BB for $49.99. I hate Best Buy.

I've seen some faceplates for $9.99 at Gamestop. Or were they just skins?

Also, I'm not surprised Best Buy was selling the freebie faceplates, but I am surprised they would even have them. EB and Gamestop are the ones who usually do the freebies, especially if it's a pre-order.

Actually, I don't know how you can have your 360 set horizontally. It's way to frickin loud when set that way! That's really the only reason I have mine vertically - I'd actually prefer it horizontal. Because that way it'd be sitting on the shelf - instead of on a board on the floor. It's gotta be that way that way tho' - because it seems that's where that loud azz fan is - on that end.

Anyways, these MadCatz NFL plates definitely look better horizontal.

MS has released three faceplates thus far in addition to the standard, white that comes with the 360: hot-rod, the wooden looking model, and a silver colored edition (which is supposed to help make it look better with other silver components).

All the rest are third party.

It is loud, but I notice as soon as the game starts, the fan is easily ignored. Maybe it's me, but I don't feel my console would be safe sitting vertically (I've never played my PS2 while sitting vertically, either). I also wanted to make sure that the thing would never have a chance to overheat, so it's actually on top of the entertainment center while set horizontally, to get the best chance to "cool off".

LOL I don't think overheating will be a problem with the 360 system. I think there's like 3 fans in the thing. That's what it sounds like anyways. The "brick" - that large AC adapter thingie - on the other hand... that might be a problem. But even then, I doubt it.

Five was right: my faceplate is made by Microsoft. I know it was labeled official and authentic, and whatnot, but I never would've thought in a million years that MS would manufacture their own; I thought it would say made by 'such-and-such' somewhere in fineprint - but it doesn't.

Oh, and I was wrong about the construction of the "circle-of-light" button on the faceplate too. It's still all-plastic - there's nothing electronic on the faceplates anywhere - but it's a plastic spring-type jobby-do, with a plastic tip affixed to the back. While all of the springs on the hinges are tiny metal ones.

I had to throw my "brick" on topf of my entertainment center as well. I have a feeling when the 360 starts dropping in price or gets a new design, there will be no "brick".

I may end up having to avoid the NFL faceplates. I've had such bad luck with 3rd party stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if the tiny metal springs find some way to short-circuit my 360. :(
