ok, I just got a PsP for my b-day, and I have no idea how to use the features on this thing because I'm a total moron when it comes to these things. I have no idea how to put mp3's pics, and stuff like that on my PsP. I have all the equipment needed, just not the know how. I know someone around here can help me get started, and your help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. If you connect your psp to you pc via usb, (it detects it like a portable drive) you should see two folders, maybe more I think, depending on if you updated, I'm not sure. But anyway, those two folders are PSP and MP_ROOT. MP_ROOT is for your video files, which is sort of complicated so let's talk about the other folder, PSP. In the PSP folder you'll find several other folders: COMMON, GAME, MUSIC, PHOTO, SAVEDATA, and SYSTEM. Again this may depend on your updates and generally what you've done with it so far if anything. For pics and music, if you don't see the PHOTO and MUSIC folders, go ahead and create them, all caps. From there you can just drag and drop your files in the respective folder.

BTW, I'd go ahead and get the PSP Media Manager. ($20 if you download it from Sony's connect.com site) I think it's totally worth it.

OK, hope I'm getting this right because I haven't done it for awhile, but. . .

plug your PsP into your PC with USB cable; open Windows Explorer, adn you should be able to drag and drop files. I can't recall if it comes with the folders already intact, but you have to picture files in a file named "Pictures" I think. Anyway, there's in the manual, seems like around page forty, a description.

Mp3's, drag into folder called "Music."

To view and use this stuff on your PsP, use the "Home" button and you can navigate the various things, UMD's, Photos, Music, etc. You can use your JPG's as backgrounds. It's pretty nifty. Sorry if I'm being vague or spaced something. I don't use this stuff too much. Mostly just throw in a UMD game or movie.

I'm with Tashi on this one. The PSP Media Manager software is awesome, and really simplifies getting stuff on and off your PSP.

One thing, tho. If you bought a PSP that's been on the shelf for a while, it may have the original OS. The media manager software needs 2.0 or better. And updating it can be a problem, if you do not have the PSP set up for a wireless connection.

Ha, the reason I was having trouble was because I had my usb plugged into the wrong plug-in......

I have version 2.01, whatever the hell that means.

Now I need to get a bigger memory stick, or just buy an I-pod. :(

Why the f*ck are PsP games fifty dollars? And is Lumines as good as Meteos?

You have a new PSP if you have OS2.1 on it. As you've noticed, the memory stick that ships with the PSP is about as useful as boobs on a chicken. I got a 128 meg stick when I bought mine, and it is only slightly better. The prices on memory sticks are really dropping, so, you may want to wait a little while to buy one. I would suggest going with a one gig at the bare minimum, and get a two gig if you can afford it. Bigger is better.

If you have a wireless router/modem at home, you'll want to get your PSP configured for that asap. There are a lot of PSP specific websites that have cropped up, and lots of multimedia content is becoming available.

As far as Lumines vs. Meteos, for me it's apples and oranges. IMO, Lumines is a game that is more visual/audio stimulation that Meteos, which requires more fast thinking.

Lumines may be more befitting for your tag, therefore :)

Look for used games for the PSP, they are starting to crop up now.

Do you like Tetris and trippy spaced-out ambient electronica? It's a very gorgeous looking twist on tetris with some cool gameplay. As good as Meteos? I go back and forth, but Lumines is the better game to get high and chill out with, since you are into that sort of thing.

At $50 a game, I'm a lot more cautious than I am with my DS game purchases.

Well, I already own and love Meteos, I just don't know if owning two puzzle games is worth it since it's not really my bag. But I'm going to get it along with GTA even though I'm kinda sick of the franchise and thug games.

Yeah, the memory stick is worthless. I put two songs on and it nearly took up half of the little bastard. So looks like I have to buy something else for this thing.

Honestly, I really didn't want a PsP right now. I spent hndereds of dollars on my 360, which is now worthless due to zero games being released for it. Now I have the expensive PsP, which has zero games to play on it. The battery is garbage, the games are too expensive, and for some reason UMD movies are the same price as the DVD counterparts despite not havng the same features in most cases. It's not that I don't have the money to buy the games, it's just I hate buying overpriced games. Thankfully, all the launch title are 20-30 bucks now, which is just right for a handheld game.

The Valkyrie Profile announcment made me extremely excited, seeing that the psone version was one of the best rpg's ever made. I'm hoping that this years E3 will be a good one for the PsP because I don't want to have to sell my b-day gift and have to tell the person some big lie the rest of my life... That sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

Thanks for the help guys.

Usually the UMD movies are MORE expensive than DvD counterparts, and don't have any of the extra features.

I don't know if you like golf or tennis. Neither of those are like major game hobbies of mine normally (or sports in general) but I absolutely have loved Hot Shots Golf and Sega's Virtua Tennis. They are the best games on PsP. They are not just great games, but great PORTABLE games. If you are tired of gangster stuff, skip GTA and get one of these two games.

Do you have to do the upgrade in order to watch WMV on your PSP? And how would I go about putting vids on if possible?

Do you have to do the upgrade in order to watch WMV on your PSP? And how would I go about putting vids on if possible?I don't think you can watch wmv. I think the update was for wma. Getting video on the psp isn't hard. It's just a pain in the butt. There's a lot of converters, some for free, but I only use two. Sony's Media Manager and a Japanese app called 3GP converter. I'll do some kind of faq on it later. Once you know all the hoops you have to jump through, it's easy.
