It sucks!! But, I'll be picking up an online bundle tomorrow anyway. It's funny, but it's almost a year to the day that I dumped my ps2 to buy gc games for my son, now, I dumped a load of games to re-acquire a ps2. Ain't life curious?

Couldn't resist VF4 EVO and that original VF arcade mode complete with blocky characters and original stage music, it brings back memories, sniff, sniff. Some tool sold a perfect copy of VF4 EVO to my local EB. I felt compelled to rescue this pv castoff and give it a proper home, not to mention saving a few sheckels.

Would've bought a ps2 today, but couldn't make up my mind between the regular version, and the online bundle. I don't see myself online with the ps2, but, I might try it out. At any rate, the online bundle is only $30 canadian more and comes with Everquest Online and ATV Offroad Fury 2. So, an extra $30 gets you the network adapter and two games. How can you say no to that.

Also, I found out Kingdom Hearts was going greatest hits, and that's a game I've always wanted to pick up, but not at full price. So, now, I'll have all three and back to multi-console madness.

It's ok. Since I no longer play Japanese RPGs, it's not my favorite, but it is definitely not the worst of the 3. Exclusive games will always keep my PS2 hooked up to a TV.

I have to say it's just OK.... sorry guys... but you need the truth!

Here is why the PS2 is not the greatest console...
First and foremost, PS2's are the most likely out of the 3 consoles to break down, especially if you use it as a DVD player.
Second, the DVD player sucks royal booty.
Third, PS2 is has the weakest hardware specs out of the three, and it shows.

But what saves the PS2 is the great lineup of solid games, and many bargain priced games too!

I think it's fantabulous. It has by favorite genres locked down tight (action adventure sub genre platforms and survival horror) & RPGs, east and west)) and I can dabble in all the mainstream stuff, every possible genre, plus weird games that defy description that always catches my eye and I can dabble in online gaming since I'm not that sold on it. So for me it's perfect, content wise. But there is some more Japanese stuff I'd wish they'd port, but oh well. I'll be gaming on it well into the life span of the next gen systems easily.

Like someone before me said, it's the best because of the games saving it's ass, but as a system, it's ok. There are just more exclusives that I want for my PS2 than there are exclusives that I want for my Gamecube. This coming year that might be changing, though...

I think it's interesting that some say that the library is the PS2's saving grace. But isn't that true of any system? If the Xbox or Cube had no games, would it still be worth buying 'cause the specs are superior? =P

Good point. I guess I should've put third-party exclusives. Because in the case of the Gamecube, first party games are what's saving that system.

And to those hat moan about the breaking down/DVD player sucking; I've yet to experience anything like that on my system. The only thing I've had go wrong on my PS2 is disc read errors, but that was just a disc weight issue. I solved it with a couple of pieces of scotch tape. No biggie. And since I don't have a HDTV, I don't worry about progressive scan and all that jazz. My PS2 is used as an entertainment system, but there have been no signs of wear.

It's an ok system, but the PS2's best years are behind them, in terms of games. I have yet to see games for the system that tops the Holiday 2001 games. That's too bad, since the other 2 systems are starting to get some half decent games.

PS2 has never let me down yet. I still don't feel the need to buy any other next-gen console. Everything I need so far...for my tastes, it goes hand in hand with the GBA...

PS2 = overrated. Dreamcast was better. I don't have time to waste with all these simplistic time wasters. PS2 SUCSK! Ok? Sorry, but I like FPS and if I wanted to play oldies like Half Life 1, Deus Ex 1, Unreal Tourney, and Quake 3 arena, I'd have already played them years ago on pc.
Every Japanese RPG I ever played were all simplistic and overrated. KOTOR for Xbox buries all PS2 RPGs with a single lighsaber to the groin. Survival Horror is a copycat genre of an American style of art even though ps2 fanboys would have you believe that the Japanese invented the genre. Alone in the Dark invented the genre, NOT Resident Evil sorry to reign on your parade! Basically, the only advantages PS2 has over other consoles are platformers(which died out for me along with the 16-bit days) and EAs kiss butt attitude. I don't care about Madden, but it irritates me that EA isn't making ANY games online for Xbox. I, for one, will not purchase a single EA product until this evil little plan with Sony is over. It's unfair. Sony is admitting its inferiority by trying all these dirty techniques because they can't make any good online titles themselves.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, 10 years from now, millions of you current day PS2 suckers are gonna look back and wonder WTF were you thinking when you bought the POS2?! Ps2 will be remembered like HAIR METAL...cool at the time but when we look back on it now, we realize it was crap.

Well, this past summer, I went to a friend's house in America. He owns an Xbox.

After playing all of the games that are supposedly good on the Xbox, I only came away saying the HALO was amazing. It was actually very fun, and IMO the only reason to buy an Xbox.

Of course, Xboxers will have a different opinion, but as far as I saw, every other supposed "AAA" game on the Xbox is matched or improved upon by an equivalent genre version on the PS2.

But uhh...I don't want to turn this thread into System Wars, you know?

This guy has a problem with the word Playstation 2 or PS2... for sure this Tappy Tibbons doesn't have a PS2 console and he still keeps bashing... play your only AAA title on your PC-In Disguise console called HALO... you can't deny that there are so many AAA titles on the PS2 and Gamecube... NYAHAHAHA!!!

Just like the rest of us here... PS2 the Best!!!(of course this is a Playstation 2 Forum)

All,

While not the most original thread on this board, I am an owner of all three systems (Xbox, PS2, and GameCube), so I thought I'd put my two bits in.

Lately, I've been playing the Xbox a lot. This is because I just got the Xbox and therefore it is my newest toy. While everything about the Xbox seems better designed than the PS2 (construction, hardware, graphics, online architecture, etc.), even at this date there are so few Xbox games that I want to buy/play. Perhaps my gaming tastes have evolved, but other than racing, sports titles, and movie licenses, there are not many interesting games on the Xbox. I'm a huge RPG fan so I find the Xbox very limiting in this regard because there are only two RPGs on the system. For sheer graphical muscle there are games like DOAX and DOA3, but I own both of these and they grow thin very quickly. These types of games (and fighting games in general) just don't have enough gameplay to hold my interest. I enjoyed playing Max Payne on the Xbox, but again, there are very few titles of this ilk available for the system. My other two gaming loves are puzzle games and strategy RPGs. These are areas that (again) the Xbox has almost nothing to chose from. What I'm finding, when I go game buying for my Xbox, is that I happily walk away with nothing in my hands because there just isn't much that I want to play on the "box." I'm hopping that Morrowind GOTY, Fable, Sudeki, and BC will change this.

So... now we come to the PS2. Do I think the PS2 hardware stinks? Yes. Is the PS2 hardware unreliable? Yes. Do I hate the fact that the PS2 won't play many DVDs? Yes. But... the PS2 game library still rocks. There are just so many good, varied, and interesting games on the PS2 that this alone justifies owning the system. For all the Xbox's quality and graphical muscle, I still find myself buying more games for the PS2 than for any other platform. Where Xbox and GameCube have no titles (or perhaps only 1 or 2 in a given genre), the PS2 has many games in almost every genre. Now admittedly, you must be careful when buying PS2 games because many of them are complete crap. Still, when I look at upcoming titles, the PS2 has just as many games (and probably more games) that interest me as any of the other systems.

I'll touch briefly on the GameCube. With the exception of a few teen and adult-oriented titles (that are not representative of the GameCube library), the GameCube is a very specialized system. Like the Xbox's focus on the 17 to 25 year old market, the GameCube focuses on kids and family. There are a few games on the Cube that I enjoy (Pikmin, Eternal Darkness), but there are so few titles released on the system that are not of the Mario Kart, Zelda Action, platformer cutesy wootsey variety that I think you have to think very carefully before buying a GameCube. Of the three systems I would say that the GameCube has the least appeal because its game library is the most tightly focused.

Now let's pose a question that fits rather nicely alongside the topic of this thread: If you are going to buy just one console for gaming, which would you buy? Hands down I would buy a PS2. If I owned a home theatre system and was going to use my gaming rig to play movies more than games, I'd recommend the Xbox, but for gaming the PS2 has more great games and a much broader library than any of the other systems. There are games for kids, games for teens, games for adults, and everything in between on the PS2. Of the current systems, the PS2 is the only one that really has something for everybody.

One more thing to note. If you have kids and you are going to let your kids play games, the Xbox should probably be avoided. We've already had to ban our daughter from playing most of the games in our Xbox library because the violence and sex in them is not suitable for children. Some of the games on the Xbox (most notably Outlaw volleyball) have even caused me to blush because the sex and nudity is so in-your-face. I certainly love games like Morrowind and KOTOR (two of the Xbox's best games), but these games put my daughter to sleep so again I say that for children, the Xbox really isn't a suitable system.

RH.

Yeah, that's a nice two bits. I think I can speak for the AoE and say that your post has been approved for this forum. (smile)

Well, I'm still waiting for the day that my PS2 hardware dies on me, and for the day when it stops playing DVDs, or any other failure. I hear this stuff, and I'm really expecting it to happen...but after 3 years of contant play, I've seen nothing wrong. I can't be happier...Sony has at least given ME a very good quality product.

And trust me, my wife has given it some very good DVD practice...sheesh...

I bought another PS2, but only because I wanted to play American games without jacking up my European PS2 by modding it.

Despite being "fixed", my PS2 won't play Guilty Gear X2. On top of that, most of the games I want are probably going to stay in Japan...good thing Sony's made it all but impossible to play imports on a US PS2...I might've had to buy games or something...
