i think the sound on the PSP is a joke. If you are planning to watch videos there is no way you can do so on a plane. Even at top volume you can't hear conversations. What are my options? Can I alter the software? Or do I need to buy external devices?
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks

You need headphones, preferably over-the-ear noise-cancelling headphones in order to hear your PsP on the plane or bus.
While I'd have preferred to get something really nice like the Bose headphones, Sony makes a cheap pair for $59 that primarily works by boosting the sound volume (headphones take 1 AAA battery.) Try it out. Your travel-movie viewing experience will be greatly enhanced.

I think I found an alternative solution: boostaroo.com offers a small portable amplifier with double socket if you wantto watch the movie with someone.

Sounds like a headphone amplifier... be careful not to damage your hearing, there are no second shots. Noise cancelling headphones are safer as they produce an equal but opposite tone to actively cancel background noise, espcially lower frequencies.
