Is it just me or is the Battlefield series THE greatest war game for the computer yet to date? I love the huge open maps that the series is so famous for. And the fact that you can be any type of solder you want. From lowly grunt to a pilot. I just love the online play and I have yet to find a better war game on the computer. The only problem is the Online players. EVERYBODY wants to be rambo. Come on people, who ever won a war on their own! But any way if you know of a better war game please tell me.

Sorry to dissapoint you but Joint Ops is better not only that customizing maps is much easier and they have way more then the few that BF 2 has.

Better games than BF2...

Ghost Recon for starters. Call of Duty very close runner up. Hell, Hidden and Dangerous was great. I'm sure there's a huge handful of other games out their superior to BF2. Massive online-wargaming is SOOO 2002'ish. It was fun for 1942, but then it just kind of fizzled. I'd prefer smaller maps with fewer L337 players running about. Team Fortress Classic, now THERE was a great online shooter.

Heck Operation Flashpoint did huge open battlefields much, much larger than BF2's poxy maps years ago.

Having said that, OpFlash wasn't exactly the most polished game in the world, but they're making a sequel (Armed Assault -- essentially OpFlash redux) which I'm foaming at the mouth about.

Deltaforce 1 was the first ever game with endless terrain.I forgot what they called it but it was some sort of looping where you could make the battlefield as large as you wanted it.Heck you could make it as big as earth if ya wanted to.It was crazy.I remember one of my buddies made a custom map he pointed me to a broken down military base and he told me to put a weight on my w key which was to run forward and told me to leave and come back in 2 hours.Well i came back watched my screen for another hour and i finally ran into the military base.I couldnt believ it and to this day the deltaforce games IMO are the best of the bunch as far as customizing goes.I wouldnt compare ghost recon to it or anything as it doesnt have all that fancy planning what have you but it does take skill to play.Could you imagine having a FPS online shooter with 50000 people playing and you may still not run into one for hours??

Not quite, the first game with endless terrain was Elder Scrolls Arena.

LOL that kind of FPS would be more like Morrowind than an FPS... it's all about "the journey" hehehe. Maybe you can sit back on a log to enjoy the scenery and do some fishing while you wait!

Ahhh, fishing. That was one of the more fun things to do in WoW. Find a remote fishing hole in the middle of troll-country, and see what you could drag out of it! Heh.

Ya it is but my point is you could have epic size world wars if 50k people wouldnt lag servers to a complete stop

What was that MMOFPS game, uh Planetside where you get tons of people in a battle for world war. What other MMOFPS are there?

ya but the only problem is that it WOULD lag really bad no matter what. the only way u would be able to pull it off is to have like 5 super comps dedacated only to that game.
oh by the way I loved Call of Duty. Ghost Reacon is good but it's a diffrient type of war game than BF. Also people I'm talking about battlefield 1942 & Battlefield Veitnam not BF2. I think BF2 sucked.

Planetside (PS) was a blast until you started dwelling on the bigger picture. I just can't play a game over and over again that has no ultimate resolution. At least BF, the round ends and you move on. You could easily log hours into PS and not actually gain anything. But the whole aspect of PS was pretty damn nifty. You needed certifications to pilot specific craft or weaponary, you earned exp points for doing certain things. You had the classic FPS style of interaction. Clans, etc...the whole package. Too bad it wasn't set in a more realistic combat style like BF...I think it would have garnered so much more attention.

I fondly remember hooking up with an outfit that all we did for hours was supply chain runs and recon. Hardly any fighting. Where could you go on scouting missions, not fire a single shot and have a good time online in a FPS game? Man...I wish there was simply more to that game storywise/plotwise/etc. Something that drew you in to staying other then just hanging out with people and chatting while shooting people every now and again.
