I read that Nintendo has updated the total number of DS units sold from the 10 million it posted the other day. The breakdown is 5 million in Japan, 4 million in NA, and the rest were sold elsewhere, tho mostly in the EU.

That is a phenomenal number of gaming consoles sold in just 14 months.

I'm praying for a deluxe edition, and I don't care how much they charge. Brighter LCD, sleeker exterior, premium sound, and those damned comfortable buttons and d-pad that they used on the Micro.

The DS really is an amazing success story, especially when you consider how widespread and strong the doubt and criticism was before the system released, both from the public and the press.

What's great is that the success has occurred without Nintendo having released any of their bread and butter big-gun franchises Zelda, Mario platformer, or the upcoming online Metroid game. Or the Final Fantasy game that's on the way. 2006 could potentially be an even more amazing year for the DS with the titles that are on the way, and the possibility of a restyled version of the system.

I agtee about the updated/uptown DS. I'd jump on that right away. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night as I sometimes do, and grabbed my Micro (with Bookworm loaded). I remembered that the volume clickbutton can also be used to dim/brighten the display, and I put that to good use. It was nice to have that capability, and I wish the Ds had it too.

Given N's sucess with the DS, which, IMO, is just beginning, I have to wonder about the Revolution. It has it's share of naysayers right now, but I think it's going to blow the gaming world away.
