View Full Version : Getting a few multiplayer games together
BaneNWN, Aku, Moya, Mochan and myself have been doing some fun gaming these last 2 weeks or so. We been playing Swat4 and Rainbow Six Ravenshield nearly everynight switching between the two. I know Ravenshield is older but to be honest with the realistic mod and the maps out there I have been enjoying that more. It just feels more complete in the multiplayer. I think Swat 4 will be much better after the expansion comes out as it will add a lot of the things I miss from Swat 3 and some of the goodies we have in Rainbow Six 3 now. It would be nice to get a couple more players as some of the maps are really tough.
Also
We have all been talking about what other games we should add to the rotation. After reading some reviews and checking it out BaneNWN and I have purchased Falcon 4 Allied Force to work on that in the co op campain. It will take some time to get the game mechanics down but I think there is enough there to keep us busy for a while. Anyone who owns this now join us and maybe you can help get us up to speed.
We are thinking of adding a racer and maybe a strategy game to break things up now and then. I did find Age of Wonders Shadow Warrior for under 10 bucks at Amazon and ordered that.
Anyone else have any ideas for a multiplayer game that you would like to join with some people you (kind of ) know? Post here !!
I know we were going to work on WoW but to be honest I am taking a wow break as I need to get away from that before I get totally burned out on it...as I am at the moment.
9486260 is my icq number-send me a tell if you want to join our VGR lan group !! Come on....not just talk games let's work on them together !
Oh and here is a list of some other games I own that we might through into the mix if enough of us here have them or have interest:
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Vietcong Purple Haze
Painkiller
Fear
SC- Pandora Tomorrow
Ghost Recon
Links 2003
Dungeon Siege/Aranna/ DS 2
HL2- ccs ( this could be fun if someone could host our own VGR server )
Temple of Elemental Evil
Anyone interested in Battlefield 2? I don't own it but have the multiplayer demo.
Bane and I also reloaded BG2 to go through the campain together in a group at somepoint. Anyone still interested in this game?

Personally I think SWAT 4 is better for singleplayer because team control is a lot better. But for multiplayer Ravenshield is still definitely the better game. Ravenshield also has better maps and all. Man, I can't wait for Ghost Recon advanced war fighter.
What is Falcon 4? Isn't Falcon a flight sim? A flight sim would be nice to play multiplayer on. Does X3 have multiplayer?
I have Colin McRae 2004. Does anyone else have that? Maybe we can try that for a racing game. I need to get a stick though (or maybe even a race wheel). I hate playing racers on gamepad or keyboard.
I have Battlefield 2.
Some Counterstrike Source would be nice but I don't have HL2. Maybe I should go grab it but to be honest I'm not too happy about the prospects of getting Half Life 2. ;) Maybe I'll borrow it from a friend.
I wouldn't mind playing BG2 but I don't know if I can get online with that game *cough cough*.
Also anyone interested in some Age of Mythology RTS action? AOM is still my favorite RTS in the modern age after Starcraft. It's the only RTS I've come across with good enough game mechanics to rival SC.
Vietcong can be a good multiplayer game, we could try that. It's pretty tough, hard to se enemies in all that foliage. SWAT 4 is a great multiplayer game Mochan, it's easier managing a team in that game than in Raven Shield.
A realistic modern combat flight sim in multiplayer? LOL! We'd be too busy just trying to keep our birds in the air let alone figuring out how to shoot each other down. Best leave those kind of games to the real flight pros.

Okay, here's what I would be willing to play...
Splinter Cell either PT or CT (CT has a cool co-op for those times when there's only a couple people able to play).
CivIV or AoW:SM. AoW I think is the better of the two simply because turns are a tad bit faster, but either could be a real hoot.
Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 I would get into again, and since I have some extra cash, and since I promised you DBS I would get it, I will pick it up soon. Also let me know when you get AoW we'll fire up a game between yourself, my wife and I, pronto.
X^3 sadly doesn't have multiplayer, but Freelancer does. That could be interesting if we could get a virtual universe up and running with regular players... Merchants vs. pirates maybe?
Temple of Elemental Evil? Hmmm, might be a little slow, how about Sacred instead? What was the other game that was really similar? I can't remember the game now, but I seem to think it was better... Damn, what was the name of it again. Very much the same, but better... Maybe it's Divine Divinity...?
Anyone have Evil Islands? I still really want to try that multiplayer, it has one of the coolest magic-weapon creations I have seen in any game.

I pretty much want to get into falcon 4.0 allied force, also games i will be hosting when they come out are Ranbow 6 Lockdown slated to be released earley febuary. Also swat 4 plus expansion when it arrives.I want to try Baldersgate 2 co-oop will be a good filler till NWN 2 comesout.Im willing to try out Chaos Theory online i am almost through the first mission seems like a pretty cool game thus far.Right now im pretty much hosting swat 4 and Ravenshield and still having a great time with both of them, but as soon as lockdown comesout will probably mark the end of Ravenshield for me.I just think the flacon 4.o game would be awesome.Especially if we can get 4 people or so playing it would be cool as heck to fly in formation and we all have an installation and our own objectives to take out. Also im up to hosting some Unreal tourn 2004
If I can use my existing BG2 character, co-op would be a kick-ass. My monk can beat just about anything single-handed. He's a wrecking machine.
I would get Splinter Cell CT if enough people want to play it. I'd like to try the single player anyway.

Almost forgot they have a mod download for GTA Sanandreas for multiplayer mode if any of you wanna try that out bet would be a blast
Ok..I will have Shadow magic in a few days. I do not own Chaos Theory yet but will look for a deal on it. I like the idea of tossing people around in a nasty fashion @@@!
The Falcon has co op missions...have to see if we can get good enough to do it. Willing to try and you can pick it up for only 19.99 at Amazon. It is suppose to rock...
I have yet to load up DS2 so I can wait till you pick it up. Or anyone else here too... Divine D has no multiplayer :( I do own Sacred though...
How many of us own Freespace 2? I still think that was a good multiplayer game too
Freelancer I sold off after finishing it....:( But it is cheap so if we had a few interested I could pick it up again. oh..I used to enjoy Motocross madness 2 as well . I am taking a WoW break as I just had too much of it for now. I don't think I am done and at L52 I have a bit to go yet before capping but I am just tired after so long in GW and WoW. Time for some other gaming.

I'll have to sit out on any Chaos Theory playing since I absolutely refuse to install Star Force. I might be up for Pandora Tomorrow instead, though.
Aku, nobody'd want to play BG2 multiplayer with you in that case! LOL.
I have Freespace 2 but not a real version, not sure if I can get online with it. The older games are more forgiving with their online. I have to get a stick though before I even consider playing flight games for multiplayer.

DBS, I've got Freespace 2, I've been meaning to dust off my copy for a while. I remember a brief stint of playing online once and getting my ass handed to me. :D
I also have BG2, pretty rusty though. Still have my character on a flash drive.

Mochan, I would be interested in trying out Pandora Tomorrow, if in the least to get practice at the CT Versus mode. I have heard nothing but good stuff about it. *Shrugs* Seriously though, I haven't tried it at all though (either in PT or CT), so it's of an unknown quality to me, as of yet. I'm game.

The only reason I'm interested in Splinter Cell at all is for the multiplayer. I'm gonna try to see if I can procure a copy of Pandora Tomorrow. Since it's an Ubi game, I need a *real* version if I'm to play it. I can go with Pandora Tomorrow since it doesn't have Star Force. I'll let you know once I procure a copy.
Ok, I have PT as well and have not tried the multiplayer either. I think RG has this as well but have not heard from him in a while.
We can set up a Freespace 2 game soon as well.
Well, aside from more SWAT 4 (and, when I get it, Raven Shield), I'd possibly be up for Civ 4 multiplayer, depending on how much time commitment that required (maybe a quick game would be best for multi?).
I'm also thinking of getting CoD2 to play multi with some friends over here in the UK. As much as I enjoy our multi gaming sessions, I don't know how often I'm gonna be able to stay up till 3 in the morning on a regular basis!! If we get that going over here (and also a widow's club for our wives!) I'm going to try and introduce them to SWAT 4 and see if we can get good at that!
I used to be pretty good at the Freespace games, but it's a total twitchfest

Hey Moya, I would like a game of CivIV. Just let us wait until a NoCD patch arrives for the game (v1.52)... That way the wife could play too.

BTW are we going to have a game later/tomorrow? I tried TeamSpeak yesterday and there was no response (around 11pm EST). I wanna play.
Oh, any of you guys interested in some fast and furious action other than UT? If you wanna try Gunz tell me, I've been playing this lately. It's fun enough in a Counterstrike sort of way. It's only a 130MB download so it shoudl be worth a shot.

Actually, I just purchased Game Jackal (http://www.gamejackal.com/)... Highly recommended. Basically it's CD free gaming from here on out for me. Just got a brand-spanking new game, or the latest, newest patch? No need to wait for the NoCD crack... this program takes care of it instantly. Check it out here (http://www.gamejackal.com/). I'm ready when you are, though the wife may need a bit more practice (damn- so do I really). But if you can give me a few days longer, I'll be truly set.
Yeah, well I totally suck at the game so you should have no problems there! What are we doing? PBEM or Pitboss or what? Since things are getting back to normal here with work and such, I don't think I can stay up till whatever time playing a game of Civ, so it may be a more drawn out affair for me...

Why does the word Pitboss strike a chord with me? Seems like I should know that word for some reason... PBEM is definitely out for CivIV. Reasons? 1) I have a couple games going on at the moment- Space Empires IV and CMAK, and 2) it would take ****ing ages to play that via email. LOL SEIV can take 50 turns just to heat up, I don't want another game like that. Damn you and your GMT-zone! ;)
I would be able to play quick games, directly, but the wife wouldn't. She'd be in bed sleeping or working. Let me know what this Pitboss is, and we'll figure out a timeframe.

If you guys want to create mini images, you can use these utilities:
Mini Image Ripper
ISO Directory
http://cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_8.shtml#Mini-Image%20Ripper
Check this article for more on the multiplayer game modes in Civ 4:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/info/#MP
PTBS stands for "persistent turn-based server" and is usually pronounced pitboss:
"The Pit Boss persistent turn-based server will allow for players to play as long as they like and leave when they like without disrupting the game. Players can also fill in for AI players and join when they like (so it is possible to jump in right in the middle of a game and take an AI's role). The server will download the current game state, then a player takes their turn and the server afterwards saves for the next player. It is like playing a streamlined version of play by e-mail or hot seat multiplayer."
I guess we'd have to get a few more people for a pitboss game to work properly. Otherwise it's normal internet games only.
I'd be available later in the evening on some weekends, depending on what's happening, usually on saturday and sunday afternoons (GMT) as well, although not this weekend which is looking pretty busy. I'd also be free some weekday early evenings 6-9pm GMT. But that's just generally: we'd probably have to see how things played out week to week.

Yes, SEIV. I haven't played it in so long. I thought the games move pretty quickly. It only takes a handful of turns to get a bunch of planets going, and scout some nearby systems. The game is so much fun when you get your asteroid mining operations going and start your big projects like ring worlds.

Yeah, Game Jackal supports Daemon Tools and plug ins as well. I suppose the above tools would be fine if you pirated the game as an existing ISO to begin with, but for store bought software, Game Jackal is fool-proof, and doesn't require making an ISO or CD image prior to using the software. For 13 bucks CAD, it's not a bad deal.
@Aku... Damn, I have never got that far into the game 8).
Asteroid mining is unbalanced against the AI, and once you start massively mining asteroids the game is effectively won. Too bad they couldn't have fixed the AI to make it exploit mining more aggressively.
