Finally got SWAT 4 woot!!

Hey guys i picked up Swat 4 and if ya want ill host a game tommroow night.Tonite i want to play alittle more Raven Shield as Paine doesnt have SWAT 4 yet and shes getting really into it and dont want to leave her out in the cold.Shes coming here tommorow so me and her can take turns at some swat 4 well i host.If anyone wants in let me know.

Before hosting SWAT 4, be sure to get the Public Server Patch and game v1.1 because I still haven't reinstalled SWAT 4 with a valid CD Key. I found a great deal for SWAT 4 over here but I haven't bothered reinstalling it.

The public server patch will allow me to *ahem* connect to the game.

You have to join Moya and I. DBS too. He can host with Teamspeak, and unlike Raven Shield, we've really got SWAT 4 down. We're able to finish maps with just two of us, with three or four of us it will be a piece of cake. Then we should do deathmatch against each other, it's a riot.

WOW im already dissapointed alittle bit here.Only 13 multiplayer coop maps??Thats not a whole lot.I think even RS came out with over 20.Hopefully they comeout with an expansion of sometype.Or maybe im just use to having as many maps as i have for UT 2004 heh.By the way does Moya run his server on Gamespy??I didnt install it because i dont want it if i dont need it.So let me know

Yeah, the game is kinda short, and not too many maps. Nowhere near as restricting as BF2, though. That game only had like 10 maps or something, and only one game mode.

SWAT 4 has an upcoming expansion which fleshes out the roles better by having a designated team lead. It should be interesting and I am definitely getting it.

All in all though SWAT 4 (and BF2 for that matter) are not exactly the best value for your buck but they are still fun games.

Well ive run through a few missions this morning and while its a good game it feels to constrictive compared to Ravenshield.Raven Shield theres some maps you can actually go 5 or 6 ways to get to a certain point in SWAT its far less like 2.Although swat 4 feels alittle more realistic as far as the dialogue goes and the enemies running more often to get away.I will get more into it and eventually play it online as i found some nice mappaks for it but right now i think RS is the better game.Maybe my mind will change later on but its still a fun game and very good in its own right.

In terms of level design Ravenshield is superior, but SWAT has tighter gameplay overall. The squad control in SWAT 4 is leaps and bounds above any Rainbow Six game. I'd like to see a Rainbow Six or Ghost Recon game with the kind of squad control SWAT has, since I hate being a policeman who has to save lives. :)

In single player it's manageable, because like in the other R6 games, you can create a plan and execute it and watch as it works. But in multiplayer coop, it's ten times harder, because everyone doesn't know the maps equally well (plus Bane likes to load new maps that no one knows, lol), so you have people getting capped all the time by some sniper up on a ledge or some other such thing. In the SWAT games, it's so close quarters that you can really control most situations with teamwork. In GR, it's so wide open that you can use range and stealth to your advantage. But in the R6 games, the maps occupy this middle ground between close quarters and wide open so that your team is always vulnerable, enemies can pop up out of anywhere, and it's very easy for a mission going well to turn horribly wrong in a couple of seconds. It also makes it hard whe there are just two or three of you, when you really need a full team to complete these missions. For many situations, you really need two teams working in tandem, but you need at least four players to do that.

It is very hard in co op. The enimies are very good shots ( too good sometimes) and the AI is not too shabby over all. I have to admit part of my trouble is I have invested little time in this game but the more I put into it lately in co op the more fun I am having. Swat 4 is the tighter game and the single player is far superior as far as swad control and commands but both are good games. As far as the co op exp I am still learning in RS but both are a kick.

Having a vgr group in a game has been a goal a long time. I am enjoying it..:)

Ya until we start winning the maps we play i wont feel the need to add anymore.Also i hear the swat 4 expansion thats coming out will be adding sniper rifles which makes me believe there going to up the size of some of the maps.I like small maps dont get me wrong but its nice to have a variety.

The reason SWAT 4 is my favourite tactical team-based game is *because of* the police element. The fact that you can't just shoot whoever you see adds tons to the gameplay in my opinion. It really gives an extra element of tension as well as strategy when you have to make a split-second decision about whether or not to waste a bad guy.

Having said that, I do think some of the scoring decisions are suspect. When I see an armed suspect fleeing *towards* me with a weapon I will shoot, but the game may determine that because he wasn't an 'immediate threat' that's an unauthorised use of force.

I'm looking forward to the expansion pack also and all that that will add to the gameplay. However, I will say that I think the current range of maps is a good selection since, although they only have two entry points at most, they've generally got a lot more routes through each level than you give them credit for Bane.

But sure, I'm up for some multi co-op action! Because of the time difference I may not be able to play tomorrow night (I'll try though). :)

Yeah, I haven't seen Hieremias for a while either. Last I heard he was getting married and starting a new business or something, all of which must've taken it out of him, since he's been nowhere to be seen for months now.

I now take back everything i said about the lack of coop missions/Multiplayer maps.I just downloaded 5 mappacks had about 20 singleplayer missions and 37 Multiplayer coop maps.I now have 50 maps in my map rotation and i checked out about 6 so far and they all work.Theres even one in an urban setting like DF.Theres also another one called prison break that looks like it will kick arse.seen a hospital one and many other cool ones.If anyones interested in trying these out with me links here download all 5 map packs on this page trust me its worth it.

ok im converted.After playig allnight some of the custom maps i downloaded IMO this is the best Multiplayer COOP game ive ever played far and away.A few of the maps i tried could possibly take 4-5 to clear successfully im not kidding.I will still keep playing RavenShield as well but my god i should have listened to you guys with this game.This game adds alot just for the fact you have to make a split second judgement over any enemy you encounter whether to shoot him or take him into custody and Ravenshield doesnt have that you just kill all the terrorist on there.I need people to help me get through these missions and with some of them i dont see this being done with less then 3.There are some pretty large size maps i got now.The hospital and Prison one seems huge.

I'm gonnna have to sit all these games out I think though; the only one I will be available for is AoW:Shadow Magic, which my wife will be playing as well, other than that my computer time is limited to Pandora Tomorrow, Space Empires IV Gold, and AoWSM, sorry not to be able to play with you guys. That Ghost Recon weekend was a special occasion (the wife was out of the house for the day). Heh.

I foudn SWAT 4 cheap (relatively anyway) at $16 but Ravenshield will be a tough cookie to find.

I don't know if the SDK is out but I've been seeing tons of SWAT 4 maps on the net already. There was one that was a Starbucks cafe. Bane, I'm game for SWAT 4. I'll fire up my ICQ when I am ready. Maybe not later; I have to do some Christmas shopping first but maybe after, although I have a training class at work I need to attend on Friday. After that though I'll be good.

Generally speaking, three is the minimum for most of the tougher maps. You *can* get by with two if you both know the map well enough, but 3 and up is where it's at since you've got one guy covering your backs, which you need when enemies can surprise you from behind at any time.

I've been playing through some of the extra maps that Bane recommended. Some of them are really good, and it's nice to have a change before the official expansion comes out next year. There's definitely some filler here though.

I've only played a few, but a lot of the ones I've played are really, really big. Kind of takes the edge off the tight, focussed gameplay that I've come to expect from SWAT, but maybe I'll get used to it! :)

So anyway, fire it up Bane, whenever you're ready!

Bane, they go into the SWAT4\Content\System folder. It will overwrite a DLL that's alreayd in there (it's basically a cracked version of that DLL) so again be sure to backup the DLL, I think it was ENGINE.DLL.

Vitality? Is that in the archive? I think there's a group called Vitality that does these hacks. Maybe that's what you're talking about? Anyway don't worry about that. The only thing you need is to put the engine.dll file into the directory. After that, everything's good.

Funny thing is, I bought SWAT 4 but I still haven't even opened it. O_o Still playing my pirated version hehehe. Too much hassle to reinstall with the CD Key. I think I'll open it and take a look in the box....

Other good ones are sp-bank (a recreation of the bank mission from SWAT 3), sp-genovese&feinbloom, sp-warehouse5thstreet, sp-ventura, sp-nova-corp, and sp-usedcarlot although, like I said, I haven't played through them all.
