Deffenitley the games better then DOOM 3,but i was also alittle dissapointed in the length of time it took to complete.I clocked in just under the 10 hour mark.It was a good solid game worth the money to me only because later on down the road i will dabble in the multiplay. even know the game was better then Doom 3 i feel the people who hated Doom 3 will more then likely not like this either.I liked Doom 3 so i could appreciate this game as well.I just think unless you liked Doom 3 or you plan to play multiplayer the games not worth $50 and not because its a bad game just that its a very short game even shorter then Doom 3.Id give it a 7/10 but if id gotten a few more hours of play out of it might have bumped it to an 8/10.My only other dissapointment was the final Boss level was very uninspiring.Doom 3 final boss was way better. The graphics were a touch better then Doom 3 although i thought Doom 3 special effects were alot better.Overall i reccomend it once it drops below $30 but unless you liked Doom 3 and want to play multiplayer your not getting much bang for your buck time wize.Personally i thought Painkiller was way better but then again that game was loaded with problems for me with the gold edition.

Yeah, it's the kind of game you can finish in one night. I finished it in two though since I didn't have much time to play after work.

I also agree, the final boss of Quake 4 was like... uh... boring.

I also thought Painkiller was the better game. As I've said many times before, Painkiller is the game Doom 3 should have been, it had the hallmarks of Doom: lots of varied levels, tons of enemies and fast frenetic action, secrets, and a scorecard at the end of each level to chalk it all up! It's the game that really managed to keep the feel of the original Doom, far moreso than Doom 3 or Quake 4 did.

Quake 4 and Doom 3 just have the better graphics (which also count for something) but in terms of the original spirit of things Painkiller had them beat, and Painkiller was also more fun in the gameplay department.

Id actually give the edge in graphics to painkiller over doom 3 and Quake 4.I had the gold edition and heard the graphics were supposedly somewhat better then the original Painkiller game, just a rumor though not sure its true.Atleast in Painkiller the backrounds are not all washed out and ugly looking.I think the Models in Quake 4 are deffenitley better looking then painkillers but i though most of the painkiller bosses looked more well defined and the levels were just unbelievable.I really wish i could figure out how to make painkiller gold work.I played that one solid through for 2 nights and didnt get sick of it whatsoever where as Quake 4 i found myself just rushing through it at the end to get it over with.I think ill look on the internet for possible soulutins to getting PK to run right.I havent been so glued to a Single player FPS since COD 1 was released

i played the pain killer demo, it was just a nicer version of 'serious sam' to me, with huge, well defined bosses. but now serious sam 2 is out, so i dunno if serious sam 2 bosses are on par with painkiller's boss monsters.

i miss redneck rampage and blood :(

Nah painkillers bosses absolutley obliterated serious sams and any other games for that matter.I played serious sam 2 demo and wasnt impressed way to cartoony looking for me even more so then the first one.Databug if your into serious sam type games i cant express enough just how cool painkiller really is.Theres no other game IMO that even compares with it as far as straight shooters go,and this is coming from a guy who usually hates these type games

Painkiller killed SS imo and I was fond of SS. My only complaint is near the end some of the bosses seem almost invisiable. I have one damn water golem like thing that circles an Island that I have yet to figure out how to kill off.......

That boss is easy.Just shoot the water bubbles that appear by him.You will see bubbles come up in the water shoot any bubble thats near the boss to damage him.

Atleast in Painkiller the backrounds are not all washed out and ugly looking

That is true. Painkiller had colorful environments and textures (despite it being "dark"). Doom and Quake were very drab. However I give the edge to the Doom 3 engine due to the shadows and lighting. They just add so much depth and atmosphere, and let me tell you Painkiller is a game that would have benefitted hugely from the kind of shadows Doom 3 had.

On the whole I would agree, Painkiller is the better game to Quake 4 (but then, that's what I said a year ago with Doom 3).

As for Serious Sam, Painkiller is not quite as frantic as Serious Sam but the boses are much better, no contest. That necrogigantus thing or whatever is a boss straight out of Shadow of the Colossus! It blows away ANY boss in any other FPS game.

Serious Sam 2 sucks balls and I cannot really recommend it at all, not even to fans of the original Sam -- because it lost what made Serious Sam special.

I have one damn water golem like thing that circles an Island that I have yet to figure out how to kill off.......

LOL, DBS, you have to shoot the bubbles in the swamp when it's close to them.

Man i think i figured out whats causing my problems with Painkiller gold crashing on me and i think its the fact that my card came overclocked and is heating up enough to reboot me.Im going to set it to stock GT frequencies and see what happens.Man if this works ill be one happy sob.Ive been wanting to collect all the tarot cards to open up the extra levels.I read that this game really heats up your graph card because of all the animation going at once.Heck even if i have to underclock it alittle i will for this game.

I sincerely doubt that that is the problem, if it were I would say other games would make your GPU overheat sooner like Quake 4. Quake 4 is a lot more intensive on the GPU than Painkiller is. Well tell us how it goes.

It works now.I understand the thinking that quake 4 or doom 3 would be harder on the graph card but painkiller does at times have 20-30 monsters coming at you and sometimes they get right in your face and you cant tell sometimes whats even going on.It seems to work now had the game going for an hour and ran perfect.I actually underclocked my card alittle but still runs great.

Personally for me, the only thing Painkiller had going for it were wide open level designs and towering bosses. The gameplay itself was irritatingly focused into killing X amount of bad guys on the screen to get out of the level...i.e Serious Sam. Its a good guy for what it was. But even the original Doom had a "plot" that served a point for running through the Mars base. I would say Painkiller was what Quake should have been, but then again...I fully played Quake 1 and then a bit of part two on the console (which I hated). So, playing through Quake 4....I didn't even know what happened in part 2 other then "marine kicked ass, beat down strogg, saved world". Which is what happened in part 4. haha. But this time, I had a name (which I really didn't need...). IMO, DoomIII and Quake 4 were better overall games then Painkiller.
