hey guys...

over at sims 2 forum, some dude suggested i turn HT off for the game. i've heard this before. does turning off HT help games at all, or does it make no difference on or off?

also, should i be running this x850 pro card with fast writes ON or OFF? while OFF, i get 5-10 fps more in some games. yet while ON i get the same result in other games. weird. i think i should leave fast writes ON (that smartgart crap, u know).

also, should my agp aperture be at 128 or 256? its at 128 now. when set to 256, half life 2 played awesomely at 1280 with fsaa and even af turned on to 6x levels. wowzers.

keep in mind my vid card has 256mb ram, and my system has 1gb ram. turning off swap file will piss off half life 2, and doom 3, i know that for a fact LOL. i have swap file at 512 (for both settings, so windows cannot resize it and thrash my HDD trying to resize it during gameplay). so what's a good swap size for 1gb of ram?

i think once i get these lil tid bits down, i can begin getting a grasp of how far i can max this x850 out, as far as frame rates and resolutions go in games.

im goin to bed, well im goin to patch far cry and play some more :p THEN bed. btw, im bored of jungles in far cry lol, i hope the game picks up soon, heh. i only bought it to tide me over till i get doom 3 on saturday

As for the hP off I do not think that will matter. I turn Fast writes off on my ATI card as I have read that it fw offer no boost and can cause instability. All of Omega drivers disable this feature by default.

I've turned it on and off and it hasnt made a difference to me. One thing I KIND OF noticed (this is purely subjective and not objective since I have not timed it on a stopwatch) but it seems like if you defrag and do disc clean up simultaneously, HT doesnt make it faster than turning it off and doing defrag and disc clean up one after the other. I THINK it's faster to turn it off, and do each task alone than HT it and do it together....

I always thought HT was a big marketing gimmick.... but then again almost everything is....

Fast Write doesn't really do anything to performance, leave it on just allegedly makes the system a bit more unstable (though I wouldn't really know).

Your AGP Aperture supposedly should be set at about 1/4th the size of your physical system RAM size. Since you have a GB of RAM, I'd say 256 is just right. And since it runs Half Life awesome at that setting, who are we to argue with results?

As for hyper threading, I honestly have no clue as to how it will work. Far Cry jungles will end soon enough, don't worry. Personally though I loved the jungles, they were my favorite part of the game.
