Oh, that's it! You've converted me... WOW! I wonder why I've been playing all these silly PC FPS shooter games like Thief now... oh yeah... That's right!

Did you up the gamma on that Thief shot? It looks brighter than usual...

Anyway, gotta agree with SBS here, though I won't be a huge smartass about it (for once).

I've been playing PC FPS games for a few good years now and a controller, no matter how cool and useful, will ever be able to touch the keyboard/mouse setup for pure accuracy. The console FPSers might love it, but we spoiled and smarmy PC elitist bastards will only scoff at it and talk about you behind your back. While I've gotten used to playing with analog sticks in Halo I missed being able to instantly target somethings head with a quick half-second mouse swish.

An orb or trackball style controller will probably be the closest thing you could get to it..or an actual wireless mouse.

A controller will never be as accurate as kb and mouse for FPS games, I agree. HOWEVER, if you take away the kb and mouse for EVERYONE and MAKE them use a controller then throw system specs out the window, THAT is the only GENUINE showing of TRUE SKILL.

Scenario: A Quake 3 MASTER on a Pentium 300 plays against a Q3 novice with a AMD64 3.2 GHZ, 2 gigs of memory, 128 meg video card...odds are, the MASTER will lose...put them on the same platform and SKILL will show.

How the hell is that supposed to be a replacement for a keyboard and mouse.

There is alot flaws in that logic.

How is that TRUE SKILL? How about take everyones controller away and make everyone use a KB and mouse. Would that not also be a true test of skill?

In your scenario why is the master playing on the bear min req for Q3 and what type of internet connection are they running?

Also, a Quake 3 master on a Pentium II 300 will always beat a Q3 novice playing on an AMD64. As long as you can eek out 30 frames per second, and you can do that on a PII300 with Q3, then you're good to go. It might not look as pretty as it does on the faster machine (it'll actually look about the same on a PIII700 with a good graphics card as it does on the Opteron) but it'll still play the same.

And Steve..you should've shown em the better Chrome screenshot

If you didn't post it first, I would have. A controller is a horrible way to play FPS's... I would prefer M+K anyday.

Eh, I was scared some of these guys may cry foul since that shot looks suspiciously like a Halo wanna-be. I wonder how close the gameplay is to Halo though. Oh well, I'll have it in my hands in a couple days and then I'll see.

Halo is more of a standard FPS in comparison, you have linear level structure and the basic gameplay is getting from point A to B. Chrome is more akin to a futuristic Ghost Recon without the squads.

The 3rd person vehicles do cop a bit from Halo. But hey, Halo did that well so I'm not complaining.

LOL...
I do not know.

I'm reminded here of a line from the movie The Dawn of Dead...
"The only fool who could miss with this thing is the sucker with the bread to buy it."

For $399, I'll pass on that:http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=321882

However, for $100, this:http://www.razerzone.com/ will certainly redefine FPS accuracy.

sure if everyone had a KB and Mouse on consoles that would be a fair playing ground but that's simply not how it is.

SBS sits here and brags about pc games that aren't even out yet like they are superior to already established console games...weird...

Wuh? All the games he's mentioned are already out. I should know since I've played all 3, I own Chrome and Thief and he sent me Freelancer to try out...

I'm not a big star wars fan but if I found a working lightsabre....

You'd never hear from me again. I'd probably go all out having fun with it and accidently weld myself in my car or something.

This is hysterical [visually] for me. Maybe its your avatar RG, but somehow I can see "you" doing just that: "..accidently welding myself in car.." :D :D :D

You have to remember that most of us pc gamers also own consoles. FPS is the weakest line on a console just because you can not get the accuracy you can with a mouse and keyboard period. It is not to say there are not great fps games on a console but when compared to the pc or a port to the pc...the pc will prevale in this case.

No mater how cool the controller ..so far nothing to date has won anyone over. Although for sports games, rpgs, etc the controller is fine and superior to a mouse/keyboard setup. But hardware is never what matters in gaming it is the games.
I could care less about a GC, PC, Xbox etc..I just want great games and purchase the hardware to enjoy my hobby. Doesn't matter what brand of light bulbs we buy as long as we can see using them.
