We were talking the other day about Starfury. You should definitely try out Freelancer (http://www.microsoft.com/games/freelancer/) if SF piques your interest, and you can't wait for the release of that game. Wow, it's like Morrowind in outer space... instead of standard XP, money is your marker for level advancement, and advancement opens up new missions, and progresses the plot... but if you feel like flying to the other side of the galaxy (and delaying the storyline), then by all means you can.

Oh yeah, and there definitely is a Z-axis to the game engine! :D

Super-cool pic!

Under what video card could you view that?

I have a AMD XP 1700+ (1.5 Ghz.), w/ 384 DDR RAM, and a Radeon 9000 Pro card. The game runs by default with all the bells and whistles, at a 1024x768x32 bit res... with no signs of a hitch... The game is really well coded. Then again, it's a space sim, so really the backgrounds are nothing more that textures, there's no horizon to slow the CPU down, and the clipping is not noticable since space is black anyways! :D

But other than that, it sounds like a cool game. I'll have to get it to it. I'm overloaded now that I have the new machine...I don't know where to begin. Right now I'm simultaneously playing Mafia and BG2:TOB, and have tried to log a few missions of Vietcong, but I haven't gotten into that one yet. And then there's H&D Deluxe, which I've vowed to replay all the way through. So many games, so little time.

I like the flight model... it enhances the action over the technical. So far every combat I've been in has had me finding myself inches from the monitor in rabid anticipation of the next kill. And, ohhh the sound effects are nice.

It is a fun game and completing the storyline doesn't end the game. I haven't been too into it now that the story is completed but I will go back to it sometime to work on upgrading equipment and learning more trading routes. Also I am holding onto it hoping for an expansion. I reloaded Freespace 2 after this one got my space grove on.

What's the Multiplayer game like? Have you tried it DBS? I have so far been so engrossed with the intriguing storyline, I haven't connected online with it yet. What can you do, how many people can connect, etc.?

I seriously almost purchased it when i saw it at EB games for $29.99.

I have read a lot of good reviews about it, and to answer your question, PC Gamer said the online component was solid and well done (one of the main reasons i wanted to get the game).

I played the demo and i was astonished by the awsome controls involving the mouse (i've never been a seriuos sim gamer, i hate joy sticks). The graphics are a delight to the eye too.

If you guys buy the game, we should all meet in multi to form a PCGR demolitions brigade in the Freelancer galaxie.

I have read that it can rock if you find a good server. I have to admit though I haven't even tried it once. I have such a poor internet connection at times only a few games are fun online. Slower rpg types work well but twitch games or fps games nowadays are not alot of fun here until broadband in some form comes my way.

I noticed a couple times while playing online last night that it's definitely important to have a seriously fast connection... like any FPS, you need to have a good ping to aim correctly.

Uh, yeah... just like you'd join us in NWN's Arabel! LOL ;) I own the game, as does Renzatic Gear, that I know of.

As for the MP- I see ALOT of possibilities... Become a Bounty Hunter and gun down other PC's for coin. Join the Space Cops, and stop evil-doers in the act. Become a Rogue (or a clan of Rogues), and waylay Freighters (PC Traders and NPC's) for their cargo. Go on Trading runs, and make serious coin as a Trader, or simply get hired on as an escort to help defend precious cargo... I need more time to play it, but since the "world" is such a vast place... even being a hated Rogue, would still be VERY entertaining... especially if a Clan had a secret meeting place, in the far depths of a mine field somewhere, in a galaxy, far, far, away...

S-B-S, how does the Multi-Player work? I mean, is your data stored on the server, as in kinda like City of Arabel, or is it uploaded from your single player? If it's stored on their server, this would kick serious booty. Also, what's the max # of players that can play in multi?

LOL, and yes, i will join you guys like i did in CoA, you know, where i met you guys everynight as promised.... :p

What's the latest word on problems with the game? I tried the demo and had periodic (minute, but detectable) jerks whenever a sound was accessed and played. With all the radio chatter in combat, this made for some fairly jerky space combat! Besides that, when I exited the game the screen corrupted and I was forced to do a hard reboot(!?!). I enjoyed the demo, but such problems have so far made me cautious about buying the full game.

I get nothing like that... no stuttering, nothing. I do however get general protection faults with crashes to desktop occasionally, but the game Autosaves so often that you almost NEVER lose info. I suspect my driver is to blame for the crashes.

Max number of players is 128, and info is saved server side (?), with a code used to access all your saved games on servers needing to be entered everytime you install the game... so unless you want to lose all your characters on all the servers you've visited, you'd best write down the number/code... or you'll lose those chars when a new code is generated... which makes me think that maybe your character IS saved on your comp, but is "copy-protected" by this string of code...

Well, I've been reading around the Freelancer Forums and I've found a few others with the same problem (along with the corrupt desktop on exit problem), so it's not just me. Seems there are also some fairly major sound issues, but I didn't experience any of those. I think I'll hold off on buying it until I hear about any fixes for those problems.

Well, hell, I could go to ANY game site forums and find similar reproducible errors happening on any number of computers... doesn't mean you'll have them for certain. I don't have any of them, RG doesn't have them, a couple other friends of mine have no problems... what-so-ever.

I find that BF 1942 after I close it down, wipes my desktop wallpaper out, with a grey colour, that disappears as I open windows... other than that, nothing else happens with the game... doesn't mean I wouldn't suggest people from picking it up, it rocks!

I'm not forcing you to go out and buy anything Moya, just know that if you hit every forum board out there and find errors that people are having, and don't buy games based solely on that and problems you had with a demo... then, damn, you just may not be playing any games any more! It's a great game... too bad.

When was the last time you played the demo? There's a good chance drivers have been released ages ago that correct the problem...

Bloody hell man, you're a bit touchy! :p

I'm well aware of the fact that you get problems in all PC games. I'm also aware that not everybody will be able to reproduce those same problems, even on PCs with similar specs. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw and all that. You don't honestly think you need to point this out to me do you? I've been around PC games long enough to know it. Also, I never said you were forcing me to go out and buy it, so why the rant about that?

In any case, I don't think it's particularly outrageous to hold off on picking up a game based on my experience with the demo. Usually I assume that, if the problems are not too bad, it'll have been fixed by the full release (or subsequent patch). However, in this case I saw a couple of people who owned the full game posting with exactly the same issues still unresolved. So my decision was based on the combination of my problems plus other's problems on the forums. Which is why I posted what I did above and which is why I'm not buying this game yet, much as I enjoyed the demo.

It's that time of the month... shut up! :p Well, you posted something obvious, so I thought I would too. It's too bad you're having those problems, and it's too bad you didn't have an EB near you... you could have bought the full version, and if it didn't work, you could have returned it. Oh well...

I downloade the demo three days ago Moya, familiarized myself w/controls & played for few minutes before experienceing the stuttering frames w/audio . HOWEVER, I did NOT have any problems w/ exiting. Im not gonna mess with the demo, rather I'll buy this one anyway as I love space/flight sims.[ & I have a new Saitek to play with.:]]

You know, i feel a little tiny bit of stuttering problems with the game. I figured it was because of my outdated video drivers, so i was off to Nvidia's site downloading the latest driver patch. I installed the new drivers and WHAM, my computer crashes, and i restart in safe mode to find out that the computer is no longer recognizing my audio card (???).
It took me an hour to get the hunk of junk back to it's "original" condition (the new drivers didn't even work)!!! I'm not blaming Nvidia's drivers because there's probably something screwy in my computer, but i wish these things were simpler on PC's.

Oops, sorry about the late reply, i forgot to check this part of the forums. Yeah, i have the full game, but i also had a little bit of stuttering when i played the demo. But i wouldn't call it a full blown stuttering problem, cause i've had games "stutter" before, i this is much more minor.

Yeah, that's exactly what I got. Not full-blown stuttering by any means. Just a barely noticeable pause every time a voice sample was played.

Freelancer is a great game, just a little to easy once you get a great fighter such as the barracuda :o) Only thing I didn't like is when I got bored and I wanted to blow up some of the battleships and couldn't :( but they, they couldn't kill me either :-p lol

SBS,
Sorry and I did want to get into NWN's multiplayer but at that time I was into AO and sold off NWN. Now after a few months I have dropped AO as I got bored and now wish I would of held onto NWN as I have yet to try the expansion for that as well. I am hoping they come out with a bundled version and I will pick it up again. Maybe when the next expansion they will bundle all of them..who knows.

Figures too as I am enjoying no multiplayer games anymore......waaaaaaaaa
