I might be Pro Sony here, but I have to say that the Xbox 360's controller impresses me more and more as time goes on. I keep hearing this rumor that it will be compatible with Windows XP using the USB interface. That is wicked cool!

Also heard you can shut your 360 off using the little green "X" symbol on the controller....Nice Touch!

I've always wondered why that option has never existed before.

Can you imagine accidentally shutting down your console in the middle of a difficult level in a game? I would hurl the controller off a bridge (With cars beneath) if that ever happened to me.

More than likely, the game will pause, and you'll be asked to confirm your choice. Its about time, that's all I can say. If I can shut off my low-tech VCR from the couch, then why not a next gen game machine?

I myself want to get an XBox 360 controller just to use on my PC. Even if I don't get a 360 I want the controller. The news of it being usable on the PC was out back during E3 and I was excited over the prospects since.

The off function is nice, but it has to work like Waco said and not as joquito said.

To be fair though, I expect that the PS3 controller will be similarly usable if you have a Bluetooth enabled PC. And if it isn't out of the box, I'm pretty sure somebody will write a driver for it (there are people who wrote drivers for N64 controller).

I like the controller "S" for the XBOX and the 360 controller looks very similar. Its supposted to be smaller, lighter, and more ergonomic. That being said however, I'll reserve judgement before actually getting a chance to use the darn thing.

Oh, I like the wireless thing too - Wavebird=best controller this current-gen for mainly this reason. Plus it uses radio frequency preventing users from having to point right at the unit like a remote). So the 360 controller has that going for it as well if you choose one of the wireless versions - it also comes w/a cord if you prefer that style.

The wireless controller takes AA batteries and will supposedly last 20-30 hours. OR you can purchase a re-chargable battery and play&plug kit to re-charge.

The reason I like the current controller "S" is that the thumb placements (analog sticks) feel comfortable and remind me of the Dreamcast controller. The PS2 controller on the other hand has uncomfortable thumb placements causing me to have to arc both hands to correctly hit all buttons at once and use both analog sticks (mainly when all shoulder buttons are also needed). This hurts over long playing sessions so I prefer the controller "S" to the PS2 controller.

Since the 360 controller will have those same thumb placements, I'm already thinking it will be a nice fit w/comfort and are anxious to give it a try.

You'll get a lot more battery life if you turn the vibration motors off. I'd say you'll be looking at 100 hours easy. The vibation motors are what eat up the most juice from the batteries. The 360 controller has, I believe 4 levels of vibration intensity.

The plug and play kit includes a rechargeable battery pack. The other option is to just use rechargeable batteries instead of alkaline.

Good deal. I don't need the silly rumble anyway. I'd prefer to feel the rumble of my active sub-woofer instead :D

I figured as much since the Wavebird batteries last about 100 hours and it doesn't have the rumble feature.

That will save on batteries and in turn ching. I didn't want to buy a plug/play kit anyhow - the cost of system & games is enough thank you very much.

I like that it has the option to rumble or not--which is something missing from the Wavebird, and a flaw imo. Most games I have no interest in using rumble, but there are some games were it's not just a neat effect but a part of the gameplay, like Eternal Darkness, Ocarina of Time, Animal Crossing, etc. Without rumble, for instance, there's one of the puzzles in Eternal Darkness you'd never be able to solve.

Which for backwards compatibilty purposes, does anyone know if the Rev controller has any type of rumble? Doesn't look like it could, really, but I don't know.

You know, most games let you turn off the vibration feature in the controller options............

I know, but if you have the wavebird you can't use them at all because it doesn't have vibration. Or did you mean in regard to the 360 controller, that it doesn't need an off/on because that's in most game controller set-up menus?

no, I was talking about the Wavebird and that if you really want to save battery you can shut the vibration off in the game menu.

The wavebird doesn't support vibration, it has no vibration motors. It is vibration-less, hence the excellent battery life.

I think what Gadfly is saying is, the Wavebird does not contain the rotors or counter-weights to make it rumble.

And I agree with you in regards to your earlier post about the controller "S". That controller is boss. I wish I could plug it into my PS2 and Cube to play my games!

The 360 controller lookes to be much the same, unlike the Bruce Wayne infuenced PS3 controller. This must change!
