Out with the Old, in with the New!

I was reading the last few pages of the Nov.05 OXM issue and it occured to me. Either the games Xbox is pumping out now have severe jaggies or the magazine itself is simply printing low res pics of the games in order to make the hot new 360 game pics look that much sharper! Some games like: Starwars Battlefront, Need For Speed:MW, Tiger Woods '06, Dynasty Warriors 5, LA rush and even Far Cry and Stubbs the Zombie...I mean some of these games look terrible! Kind of reminds me of the front of those old NES game boxes (Mario, Duckhunt, Hogans Alley)...we all knew the games looked better than that!

Some might say:"It's becase they are PS2 ports!". But I thought Xbox was supposed to clean up PS2 ported games and make them look better?


I think it's all a ploy! I wouldn't be surprised if OPM does the same thing to pimp that PS3....not that it needs it!

Are you reffering to the pics that they zoom in on? Of course when you zoom in on something you are going to see the jaggies. I've been playing Doom 3 on Xbox and I have to say I'm really impressed. I have it for PC to, but I don't really like playing games on my PC anymore, even though it can handle everything fine. I found the Xbox version to be comprable to the PC version, everything looks great on the Xbox and the frame rate is solid too. It is more enjoyable too playing it in the dark on the HDTV with the surround sound going VS. playing on a 19" monitor wearing headphones, also the couch vs chair deal.

My headphones for my PC are actually pretty good ones, Sennheinser HD280 closed back phones. They sound great, really good when competing in Counter-Strike and stuff. Even though they sound great, lounging on the couch with surround sound is just more enjoyable.

Those are a nice pair of cans. I still find that even a great set of cans can't compare with a great set of speakers, especially in surround. The bass alone will run all over it. But yes I do see the comfort of couch playing. Of course you can always PC game on your couch, but it's a little difficult to use your mouse in such a position (and using a gamepad on PC FPS nets nothing but get you killed!)

I'm not saying the Xbox games themselves look that bad, but those particular photos look terrible. Farcry and Doom 3 look great on Xbox, so do most other games for that matter.

I just think the Magazine intentionally snapped unimpressive pics of those games in order to make the new 360 game pics look even sharper. Because in some cases games like Farcry, Halo 2, Coker BFD look almost as good as what 360 has in store....at least in the photos seen thus far!

Yeah I know, I worded that wrong! I meant to say that some of the games posted in the mag were PS2 port, thus showing those jaggies, but "Xbox Only" made games like Stubbs and Farcry still had some jaggie/blocky looking visuals....these games look far better than that on screen. And even the PS2 versions of the Xbox ports don't look that bad!
