I understand they don't want to compete directly they want to expand the market to non gamers. But the controller isn't going to do it. It's the content of the game. A non gamer is not going to look at a controller/remote after years of not being interested and decide they want to play. Do non gamers like Nintendogs because you controll it with a stylus? No they like to play with the dogs. But then the argument is made this new controller will all different type of content. But by nature it will have to be based around the controller and the controller is what will have to grab the attention. And I don't see this working nintendogs could be done on any console with a traditional controller so it's not an issue in buying the game. Basing your whole bet on a controller is idiotic. Make the games simpler expand the themes and story telling but thinking that a remote control is going to be a difference is just stupid. As much as the D.S. innovated with it's stylus nintendo left in a traditional control setup and this is the problem the Revy is going to have. How the hell am I going to play madden with a remote?
Basically it's no difference we are still going to be interacting with games the way we always have this time the controller just has more feature I don't even see this as a bigger leap than the analogue stick (innovated by Nintendo)
The real controller revolutions will come with Sony's eyetoy and MS Xcam I would love a RTS where you use the camerea for controll.

Have you played Nintendogs? This game would have sucked on a traditional system. Have you checked out the voice recgonition? How "petting" is made to be kinetic and thus more realistic, rather than the alien action of doing things by stick and button? Ever thrown a frisbee with the stylus? Can you imagine how that would work with a stick and buttons? We've already seen reviews of a number of games using the phrase "would not have been possible without this interface" and we're going to see a lot more of that both on the DS and the Rev. Nintendo has not missed the point; your mind's eye is simply covered with cataracts.
The only other thing I can say about your post "how can I play Madden with a remote" is, are you completely in an information vacuum and don't know that Nintendo is also providing a traditional control interface in addition to the wand, or are you intentionally trying to spread disinformation?

I think you are contradicting yourself. You say that a non-gamer will be grabbed by the game because they want to play with dogs, and that the stylus had nothing to do with it.
You also go and say that the controller will be what will grab attention, and that the game will be based on the controller.
Well, like the Nintendogs example, was Nintendogs not "by nature based around the controller" as well? Seems like they're ready to "look past the controller" and see what the game has to offer ("play with dogs") just fine.
I think you'd be better off not including Nintendogs in your argument because it screws it up.
That said I am also looking forward to making use of the eyetoy. It's potential for VR-like gameplay where your view shifts depending on where the eyetoy looks. I discussed a bit of this in another thread and on how it could be used in FPS for turning your view area. I wish someone would do it plus a lightgun, wow that would be a fun game.

Petting was stupid enough using a mouse, and it's a lot more suited to the task than an analogue stick. The touchscreen is great for the game design, no doubt.

The petting is the only real advantage of the touch screen. The frisbee could have been done inuitive with analogue control.
Anyway I'm not faulting the idea of the rev but the execution of it. Is the traditional interface standard? Or do you have to buy it extra?

Hmmm, how can you possibly fault the execution when nobody except Nintendo knows all the details regarding the controller and its accessories? Also its been mentioned before that GC controller ports are going to be standard. So if you have a GC you already have the controllers.

They're not basing the whole console around the wand/remote/thingy. Nintendo might end up using it for all their games, but any 3rd party can take the tried and true dual analog road if they want to.

Maybe it's me but basing a console around a control scheme seems like a bad idea.
But from here on I will stop dissing the remote until I have more info.

Hard to fault the execution of it, when it hasn't been executed yet.

Nintendo Revolutions Controller can be easy imitated. There will be 10 other similar controlers with hundreds of colors.
Who cares about the controller? People still want to play games like Halo, Final FAntasy, Sports, etc.
Not Upgraded version of Nintendo Mascots and Multiplatform sympathies for Nintendo after Sony and Microsoft get the better games.
Nintendo still do not know their market.!

See, the problem with your perspective is that you're wondering "How the hell am I going to play madden with a remote?" instead of realizing that Nintendo isn't going for that market. Simply put, the Madden crowd isn't going to be considering a Revolution anyways, since they will undoubtably go with the PS3.
Here's an analogy...
What would a complete non-gamer be more inclined to play at a arcade, Whack a Mole or Madden Arcade? When I say "non-gamer" I mean somebody who's literally never even picked up a gamepad before. I'm guessing they would be more inclined to play Whack a Mole because it's far more intuitive to play Whack a Mole then it is to play Madden Arcade. Whack a Mole is so intuitive because you don't need to be a "hardcore" gamer to realize the point of Whack a Mole is to, in fact, whack the mole - you have the mallet and you beat the sh!t out of that mole when it pops it's head up. Nothing could be more simple, but satisfying and, dare I say it, fun.
Nintendo is going for the Whack a Mole crowd here, not the Madden crowd. The Revolution control "wand" has the potential to be used for intuitive games like Whack a Mole. I'm thinking this is the grand scheme here - intuitive gameplay for non-gamers.

Sweet. Next gen Whack-a-mole (does that rhyme with Guacamole?) And all this time I thought the wand would make complex games more intuitive as well as make possible game concepts not currently possible on consoles, rather than just make stupid simplistic games for 2 year olds, and Texans.
Please say you were being sarcastic!

I think you missed my point. Whack a Mole is intuitive, Madden is not. The new Rev "wand" is intuitive, current gamepads are not - if you've never played on one before.
Jeez, I would have thought that you out of all people could appreciate my analogy. : /

Well, actually your analogy kinda irked the hell out of me because I thought it kinda fed the stereotype; plus it sounded like an insult Glock woulda come up with (the Whack-a-Mole Revolution!!!) Sorry Treb, I know THAT has got to sting!
Anyway, what's more intuitive than throwing a ball and running with it? Depending on how well the Rev controller actually works at what its supposed to do. . .take throwing the frisbee in Nintendogs; Drunk can claim it could be pulled off with a thumb stick, but anyone who's done it knows it wouldn't feel the same. I don't see why similar mechanics couldn't be implemented a Football game.

Hey, Whack a Mole is just as valid as any other game. Except in Whack a Mole, the fundamental gameplay mechanics take about .00001 seconds to learn, so really, there is really very little getting in the way of one's whacking of said moles.
I can't help it if this internet community has an elitest attitude regarding Whack a Mole. Furthermore, I bet this is the most times the phrase "whack a mole" has ever been used on this forum and quite possibly the world wide web as a whole. This is a true event here, people.

What also makes the whac-a-mole thing so funny is that Nintendo, in a moment of self-deprecating humor, opens the Wario Ware Touched game with a video of Wario first finding the DS. The first game he plays on it: Whac-a-mole.
