TGS: Microsoft's Peter Moore praises Nintendo's Revolution controller

Xbox boss reiterates Bach's "touch a billion consumers" E3 message
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz at the Tokyo Games Show, Xbox VP Peter Moore has praised Nintendo's "innovation with the new [Revolution] controller", and reiterated the need for the industry to grow into new markets.
"I want to give kudos for Nintendo for its attempt at innovation with the new controller," Moore commented, saying that the new device would -"bring people in that, as Iwata-san said, are either lapsed gamers or gamers that are intimidated by the complexity of the controller."
In the second half of our interview with Microsoft's head of worldwide marketing and publishing for Xbox, which you can read on the site today, Moore went on to argue that the digital lifestyle functionality of Xbox 360 will offer non-gaming consumers a similar incentive to get involved in the market - and reiterated the company's controversial message from E3.
"We said at E3, we want a billion consumers touched in this next generation by our industry," Moore said. "That was an industry message. Certainly, we can see Nintendo rallying to that cry and reiterating what Robbie said on May 16th; I heard the same words come from Iwata-san of Nintendo yesterday."
He then revealed that Microsoft is also looking into ways ot make games on its platforms more simple and approachable, while still retaining a level of complexity that makes them difficult to master.
"We need to grow as an industry," he concluded. "Having a simplified controller is one tactic in what is a larger strategic battle we need to face to grow this business."
In this second half of the interview (click here to read the first half, which was published yesterday), Moore also discusses the company's relationships with Japanese publishers, and goes into depth about the firm's strategy for Xbox Live and downloadable content on the Xbox 360.

I think he will come to woo this day if Nintendo ever manages to bite his butt.

Not that this would be possible but...What better way to combat Sony then to attempt a sort of "Allegiance" with Nintendo. Even by getting on their good side, this could look bad for Sony! Sony does not like Nintendo, but apart from being competitors in the games industry, Nintendo and M$ really have no beef with each other. Now what if Peter uses this tactic to "Attempt" to overcome Sony and then turn against Nintendo when this happens? I doubt that would come to be however. Nintendo could destroy M$, in this industry if they wanted!

LOL, lots of conspiracy theory brewing here, but I really can't see an alliance happening between any of these three.

That wasn't a "pro-Nintendo" statement by Peter Moore; it was a sideways dig and attempt to hi-jack the philosophy Nintendo has been promoting for at least the last two years.
I like how didn't see "innovation" but Nintendo's "attempt at innovation."
It was also a pathetic attempt to paint Nintendo as a follower of MS the Leader when Moore went back to the "reaching a billion consumers thing" and said Certainly, we can see Nintendo rallying to that cry.
This was from an interview, and he was asked about Nintendo. What else is he gonna do? Nintendo is innovating, it has been leading the industry in trying to expand to new gamers, and it has been succesful with that philosophy in Japan with the DS, and may be duplicating that success in America; certainly Nintendogs is flying off the shelves.
I'm sure MS would like to see Nintendo eat into Sony's Japanese Market share since MS itself won't be doing that--but other than that, this interview segment was just MS ripping off Nintendo and mouthing its philosophy about expanding the market to current non-gamers; Moore says its console offers incentives to draw in new gamers. Yeah? Like what?

MS is leading the way in console innovation by offering 2 sku's for the 360. I can't remember any other console manufacturer doing this before so it must be innovative to do so.
By offering a box that is a hundred dollars less the uninformed consumer will most likely go for that deal. Then all MS has to do is wait for the money to flow in as said customer must now pay through the ying-yang to get the accessories he/she did not get with the core bundle.

Well, to be fair, I think they have a plan to draw in non-gamers with the new Power Point Party, and a hip-hop themed game called "Word."

Any controller can be copied easily? If so called Nintendo Revolution catches on, there will be so many imitators in matters of months.
The games and the system will sell the console not the controller. PS3 and Xbox 360 will still trounce Nintendo. The only difference, there will be at least 10 different designs and hundreds of colors.
Enjoy your 5 minutes of fame, Nintendo. The mass market will perceive the controller as a TV controller. People will flock to PS3 and Xbox 360 for the games. No one care about the controller. It to easy to imitate.

Ummm. Maybe.
But from what I understand Nintendo cautiously patented this design along with a couple imitations of it just in case.
It may not be as easily imitated as you think.

Mother is necessity of invention.
People will find a way to imitate it.
Also, there the grey and black market.

"It's a stupid TV remote, and besides, what it does it matter because MS and Ps3 can easily copy it." Way to hedge your bets there!

Nintendo just game the competition the ability to make more choices. Competition and the 3rd party will imitate the controller. Now, consumers can buy different type of controllers. Thus fueling the market for Sony and Microsoft.

You fail to realize the Nintendo will offer this creative controller along with games that will support it. You can't just use that same design on existing games intended for regular controllers!!!!! Have you even read any of the press conference explaining this innovation?

He must have; that's why he's so eager for Sony and MS to copycat Nintendo. Some ideas are so great, even a complete boob like GamerToday can't deny it.
