Well, maybe the boys at IGN haven't had a chance to grip the almighty Revolution TV remote, I mean they wouldn't be calling the de-evolved XBOX 360 controller the best controller they've ever used if they had i'm sure. I'm not surprised that no one is bringing this up, i'm sure more than a few people have already read it.
In case you don't know what i'm talking about, head over the IGN for their hands on take of the perfect perfect 360 controller.
This is no gimmick right here baby.

Great point. I also read an article in the recent Game Informer that says basically the same thing - that the 360 controller is the best so far.
That being said however (and to remain as objective as possible), both articles were written without the benefit of either writer having an opportunity to play with the Revolution or PS3 controllers (at least not on actual hardware driven gameplay).
My objectivity aside, the 360 controller looks ergonomic and comfortable. I'm anxious to get my hands on it!!

Yes, I have to admit, that controller looks damn sweet and really comfortable, PS3 needs to go back to the drawing board... There...I said it!
Oblivion? I just grabbed the Oct. OXM and checked out the pics on this one.....very nice!

Yeah I want that controller, too. I heard I can use it on my PC.

If the 360 controller is as comfortable as everyone is saying, it's definitely the biggest plus about the 360 so far. The Ps3 controller doesn't look comfortable. In lieu of actual controller innovation, there's nothing more important than ergonomics and comfort.

The PS3 controller is indeed still highly dubious in its form and function. I mean, I really can't say any real good about it. I would like to believe that there is a logic to it, and I offered a possible explanation as to how it might be better than before, but I am really just guessing without the real controller to try my hands on.

A comfortable controller for the 360? Thats it? Heck, the GC had a comfortable controller. What else can the 360 controller do besides what it did before with the X-box? Anything next gen or same old, same old? Is it better for FPS? Does it remove the necessity for auto aim in shooters? Is it perfect for RTS games? Anything besides being comfortable? Anything?
OK, don't get me wrong comfortable controllers are great and all, ie. GC controller, but the reason the REVs controller is so hot is because of what it can actually do different in terms of gaming. Show me a perfect KB/mouse replacement for the 360 then I'll be interested.

I know, I want to get my hands on all of them. I don't plan on buying all three companies systems again, but I love games and I want to try these suckers out as soon as possible. I wonder, with the 360 being so close to launch, why they don't already have demo kiosks. For the Xbox launch, even before they had running systems, they had the xbox and controller kiosk set up at places far more in advance of launch than this. In fact, prior to even playing the Halo demo, the original large Xbox controller was one of the factors that originally had me leaning towards Xbox over Ps2 and 'Cube.
The games have to be there, but if all systems are offering great games, controller comfort for me is a MAJOR factor. Great games are really hampered for me by uncomfortable controllers. It was probably THE factor, really, that made the Ps2 the last system I picked up. That, and it just irked the hell out of me to have to pay the same amount for the Ps2 as for the Xbox.
As an aside for anyone who wonders why I'm really so anti-360, that's what's chapped my ass about the 360 is how much they are charging vs. what you'll get with the Ps3; it's like they've swapped roles with Sony, only Sony's systems have more games I like. If only they'd come up with a great controller, there wouldn't be anything at all I covet about the 360.
For my Ps2, I use the logitech wireless controller, and though its an improvement, the basic design of the Ps2 controller is just whacked. For Ps1 I used a third party controller but I don't remember what it was called now; it was actually sort of weird shaped like the Ps3 controller; it was crescent moon shaped, only it was really fat, the shoulder buttons where on the bottom instead of the front, and it had a chip in it that could take a digital control game and use the analog stick instead (which in those days was useful because all the initial Ps1 games were d-pad.) I don't understand why people aren't putting buttons under the controller; your middle finger naturally curls under there; dual shoulder buttons are just flat out ackward.

Revolution controller sucks! Why? Because it hampers gameplay in traditional games. In all of Nintendo's control innovation they have always failed when the innovations of the new controller (the robot, power glove) hamper the innovations of previous games. I know they have the wave bird shell but does that come with the console or not?
Personally this thing just look stupid and all of this Light gun for FPS control is even dumber.

And of course you know all of this because you have personally used the REV controller and is now a leading expert on it, right?

Gotta agree with you on that. I've been wondering this myself. Nintendo is the closest to do this; the Z-Trigger for the N64 was going along those lines, and of course the new Rev controller has a button down there already. Really, you have to wonder who they hire to come up with ideas in R&D or Engineering; these things should be easy enough to brainstorm.

Not as dumb as analogue sticks for FPS control!

Nintendo will never get the market.
Controller do not define games, games of the moment define games.
Today popular games are on Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2 and PS3.

Sure no problem - stick w/your PC! I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want a k/m set-up on a console????
Aren't consoles meant more for the family room / television? I had this type of set-up for the Dreamcast and it was nice for fraggin' but a pain to set-up in front of the TV.
This is getting funnier by the minute: XBOX 360 is attempting to gear itself more towards the games (becoming more PS like) while the PS3 is attempting to turn itself into a computer (more XBOX like). Reminds me of new Coke back in the day. It tasted just like Pepsi.

Your confused!!!
Nintendo SoCalled Revolutionary Controller is the NEW Coke! It will come and go like the Nintendo Gamecube $99 pricedrop. People will imitate the controllers until the market dies.
It looks like Microsoft and Sony believes in giving their customer choices. It looks like Nintendo again is trying to shove their concept of gaming controller down your throat.
Controller A: Tradiontal Controller
Controller B: Imitation Nintendo Revolution Controller
Controller C: A Hybrid Controller.
Controller D: Yet to be Determine.

I'm confused? Explain how the Nintendo Gamecube price drop of $99 has come and gone. Seems to me like it came and stayed as its still $99. Please also explain how MS and Sony will give their customers choices? Oh wait a minute, now I remember. MS is offering a wireless and wired controller. Damn! All these tough choices..... Do I buy controller A with a wire or Controller A without a wire???
Nintendo $99.00 price drop game NIntendo a temporarily increase in marketshare and sales. After, the market return to PS2 and increase marketshare to Xbox.
As for the controllers, people have more chocies.
Traditional Wired Controller, Traditional Wireless Controller, Nintendo Revoluitoin Imitated Controller, Hybrid Traditonal/Revolutional Controller. You can even add the keyboard as controller too. These are called choices.
Nintendo will only make their so-called Revolution controller available and prevent 3rd party controllers availabity. They will not make at first traditional controllers to the market until they realize, Nintendo Revolution is in 3rd place.

Thats just it Fivespot. I don't want a k/m set up for my console. Especially when Nintendo's new controller might just do the trick for FPS games. You see, this whole thread by TMG is basically a counter to the excitement that the REV's controller is getting. Maybe he's jealous, I don't know. But TMG posts how the 360's "new"(what a laugh) controller is perfect and yet it does nothing new to gaming. So my response to him is to show me what MS is doing to make gaming better. Got my drift?

Yup.
But I still think PS3 putting out a mouse/kb set-up is pretty silly. I suppose they're going for the whole "super-computer" thing but I truly believe consoles should remain in the family room otherwise why bother switching from PC gaming to console gaming?
Consoles in my eyes streamline gaming experiences for those intimidated by PC's, without PC's, or just sick of working on them all day long (which is my scenario). Obviously consoles function like mini-computers and are even getting close to the power of current PC's to some extent - but I've always viewed them as completely different functionality.
I'm not sure PS3 will persuade PC gamers by offering this set-up which is what I'm assuming they are trying to accomplish. Personally, I find it unfair when controller folk are playing online w/PC gamers since the mouse/kb set-up is much easier for some types of games and creates an unfair advantage forcing the controller users to need the same set-up. I had that set-up on the Dreamcast for this exact reason - in order to level the playing field.

I smell the fear in you, FlamerToday. Could it be you are aware that Nintendo is currently destroying the competition in Japan, that the Tokyo gameshow boosted enthusiasm about the Rev not only in Japan, but has been the lead story and topic of discussion in the world of gaming? Fantasize it away all you wish, but it doesn't change the reality.

Japanese game charts dominated by Nintendo
Paul Loughrey 11:54 23/09/2005
Nintendo DS and GBA take up half of the all formats top 10
While the UK game charts are almost entirely ruled by Electronic Arts, it's a very different story over in Japan.
The top 10 all formats chart consists almost entirely of Nintendo hardware, with only the first and fifth positions taken by Sony's PS2 and PSP respectively. The remainder of the chart is for software sales on Nintendo's DS and GBA handhelds. Microsoft's Xbox system, which has struggled to find a customer base in Japan, doesn't feature at all in this week's top 10.
Of the game releases, five out of ten are Nintendo first party games, giving the manufacturer and publisher an overwhelming grip on the software sales in Japan. Bandai, who recently merged with Namco, holds third position in the charts with its Tamagotchi Connection on DS, while Banpresto is in fifth with GBA title Super Robot Wars 3. Capcom is the only other third party publisher, entering at number six with DS game Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.
Dynasty Warriors developer Koei holds first place in the charts this week with the fifth iteration of its popular feudal war series on PS2. Soccer fans have placed Konami's World Soccer Winning Eleven 9 in fourth place on PSP, and the remainder is split between Nintendo's own GBA and DS titles: Famicom Mini Super Mario Brothers, Dr. Mario and the Puzzle League, DS Training For Adults: Work Your Brain, Mario Tennis Advance and Gentle Brain Exercises.
Nintendo's popularity has increased dramatically following the recent Tokyo Games Show, where the surprise innovation of the company's new Revolution console controller was revealed. The controller, and Nintendo's attempts to continually re-invent and innovate within the industry has led to widespread praise from industry leaders including Sony and Microsoft.

I for one, as a long time PC gamer, is excited about what Sony is proposing to do. I would love for the PS3 to be able to play PC games, although Sony has not mentioned the PS3 will be capable of this feat. I am still hoping that Sony will make at least the FPS games Keyboard/Mouse compatible. I know that this will not be fair for people who'd rather use their controllers, but hey, life is never fair.
The biggest advantage of the PS3's capability to be used as a home PC, IMO, is the savings. This will mean PC gamers will not have to upgrade to a newer, faster PC for a long time. And with the PS3 gamers don't have to worry about incompatibility problems or updating that PC users face daily. Everything will be standard. And I don't see any inconvenience in moving the PS3 from my living room to my computer room either. Its just a matter of cables and the PS3 is much smaller than a regular PC that weight is not even an issue.
A lot of PC gamers may not agree with merging consoles and PCs but I think its a worthy and cost effective idea if Sony can do it right and not take any shortcuts. IF the PS3 does launch at the $400 to 500 pricepoint with the potential to have PC capability and you put together a price list for PC parts to match what the PS3 can do, you will probably be looking at $1000 to $1500 not including the software and applications.

That would be a tough one to pull off but admirable if they can do it!!!! Never thought of that.
If they did though, MS published games could add some functionality to detect a PS3 and then prevent those games/software from working :p

I'm also excited by the prospect. If the PS3 can substitute for my PC, I'd be really happy. The savings would be tremendous; the PS3 will probably only cost half of a good PC rig, and it can play PS3 games besides!
Regarding FPS and k/b, I hope it's enabled, that would mean I'd be happy to play Quake 4 or whatever on PS3, no need to buy a high end PC for it! And then I can proceed to school all the gamepad users in headshots, I'll prove that mouse rules over analogue stick anyday to the skeptics if we're just talking about aiming.
Even if the PS3 doesn't play PC games, if the PS3 supports k/m for FPS input then that solves the problem right there; high end PCs are usually only needed for FPS games anyway. Most everything else will run fine on lesser systems. If the PS3 has the gaming library that includes the best PC shooters, then all's well.
I also have no problems putting the PS3 in my PC room. I don't need it in the living room, I know some of you guys are picky about the distinction, but I'm not at all. I lived my college years in a studio apartment and my living room was my bedroom and my PC room all in one. It's very convenient actually. And hey, maybe the PS3 will have wifi HDMI outputs so you can play it on your bigscreen TV in the living room even if it's in the computer room!
