View Full Version : Sony and MS--The Beavis and Butthead of the games industry

Sony today initiated a recall almost identical to the earlier Xbox recall; AC adapters melting, fire safety hazard. Gonna be hard for either of these yahoos to reach "a billion" consumers if they burn them to death. Along with disk read errors on both and Xbox's high driver failure rate, if you are crazy enough to buy a 360 or Ps3 at launch, you will be a fool not to pony up for a product replacement plan.

I wonder if the recall will be like the Xbox one, when all was said and done, the new cables didn't correct the fundamental flaw within the unit.
It's nice to know there's at least ONE competitor that still cares about turning out a quality product.

Beavis and Butthead? - they remind me more of Laural and Hardy, at least in the way they run a business (and can be bothered to).
Anyway, Nintendo products are at least AS dangerous. Do you have any idea how many nights sleep I lost in college playing Smash bros melee with my mates. And I have witnessed people being practically MUGGED at cons if they have a shiny Pokemon (a one-in-a-million occurance that if attached to something descent can fetch big bucks, I've met ONE person with one).

That's one thing that has been striking me as odd - all these "tech savvy" VGR posters who are going to be buying a 360 or PS3 at launch, when they will refuse to buy any other electronic device until several revisions are out. 1st generation electronics tend to have the most problems, almost to the point that all the early adopters tend to be like guinea pigs to the manufacturers, dealing with all the bugs and glitches that get fixed later on.
Yet when it comes to whatever console of choice, they'll be first in line to get the 1st gen models. This is regardless to the fact that being patient pays off in multiple ways - price drops, bug fixes, etc.

Yeah, but the melty Sony product in question is a fifth year 2nd or 3rd version of the Ps2.
Being an early adopter has tons of cons; but since the 360 fans feel like I've been such a bully criticising that system, I will put in a nice word for being an early adopter---you may pay out the ass and be more likely to get a buggy early model, but what you do get is the fun of playing with and exploring a new toy most people don't have. And that's a pretty big plus, especially for gamers around here who love writing about videogames.

I didn't read the linked articles, so maybe it was specified, but is the melty problem pertaining to the original PS2 bulky build, or the newer slim build? If it's the slim build, then you have to figure it's on a earlier revision then the older one.

I'm not denying the draw of being the first guy on the block with the new, cool toy. Generally speaking though, it's not really wise to buy 1st gen electronics.

Trebor, the problem by the way is with the adapter to the PS2 slim build. It's the adapter and not the unit itself. Personally I don't think I'll ever buy 1st gen electronics. Too expensive, risky, and the novelty factor of being the only boy with the toy never really worked for me.

I'm not surprised at all. How long has the slim build been out? 1 year? 2 years maybe? Seems about the right amount of time for all the problems to start occuring enough where they have to do a recall of the 1st revs.

I'm with you there. Although, I'll admit to buying the GBA/SP when it was first released - but I had to return it 3 times before I found one without particles of dust under the screen.

I can't think of a case where I ever was an early adopter. I'm usually always a late adopter, and I live in a country that also adopts things slowly so even if I wanted to be an early adopter, I usually don't have the opportunity. It's all good though since I like to wait it out anyway.
