View Full Version : Marked as read Timeouts...

There's times where I know that there are new messages to be read by the colour coded icons. There are also times when I don't have alot of time to post, but instead I leave the page up on my computer, to come back to later to respond or read the posts, however, I have been finding recently that when I come back, and continue reading... the whole PC forum (not just the board I was checking) is marked at read... totally annoying, especially considering I know I've missed out on a lot of threads, but I'm not entirely sure which ones. Are there timeout issues with the marked as read icons? It seems odd that this should be happening however... but I'm not entirely sure of what options can be set for VBB...
Yeah, I know what you mean. It's annoying. I end up just checking all of the boards in case there are any that got away. This happens on other VB boards I frequent as well so I'm guessing maybe it's a problem with VB. Just speculation though.
We see there is a problem and it should be fixed soon.

Nope the problem still exists. Here's what I did this morning. I clicked on the discussions forums, read a PM I had received, and then clicked on Home to bring me back to the main page. I searched for a review, and then closed down the PM and surfed back to the Home page. I then left the page up and running, and went off to drive the wife to work. When I returned, I clicked on the discussion forums again (remember, I hadn't read an posts yet- just accessed my PM), and low and behold... the whole board had been marked as read! Maybe you should try just surfing to the Main page and waiting a bit... I swear there's a timeout issue somewhere, that resets the read icons after a certain amount of time.

hrm... I leave the site open on my browser for short periods of time and don't run into the problem. I don't know the length of time it is taking to time out on you. But when I'm finished reading through new posts, responding etc. I close the browser and that works for me.
I believe I've had the forums page opened for at least a half hour at a time.

hmmm. I would have to say it's roughly around half an hour or so too.

Happened AGAIN! Arg... I timed it this go however. 50 minutes. I had a couple more threads to read, left it up and running, came back, finished replying to the post I was replying to, marked that forum as read, and surfed back onto the PC Gaming Forums... and Viola... nothing was marked... except for a new entry in the General Boards.
Like everything was marked as read... every single forum. :(
Well, for now the solution would be not to keep the site opened in your browser for any longer than 45 minutes.
I'm sure Chris will be reading this. Let's see what he has to say about the issue.
Also SBS, check your pm. I have a question for you re: your review.
