Here's an updated list of titles and release dates for the DS. For all three current Nintendo machines (DS, GC, GBA) there will be a total of new 170 titles between now and the end of the year.

Two items of note (1) The same article I pulled this list from says that Metroid Prime Pinball will ship with a rumble accessory that goes in the GBA slot (will it be tilt sensitive too?) and (2) Electroplankton is not on this list.

The exciting news there isn't the rumble pack, its that its getting packed in with Metroid Pinball. . . as if I weren't already slobbering for that title as it was.

The thing with Electroplankton, it shouldn't take them ten minutes of work to translate the very few words in the game to english, but there may not be a lot of point bringing it out here; its a fringe game no matter what, a lot of people have already imported it, and having it on store shelves in America when there are so many other titles coming out. . .plus, its a title that might alienate and confuse NA customers who buy it not really knowing what it is.

I'm surpirsed the Mario and Luigi RPG are making it out this fall. I don't know how I'm going to be able to afford all the titles I want to get; these are the ones I wanted, but some will HAVE to get pushed back until later:

Aug. 22: Advance Wars: Dual Strike from Nintendo
Aug. 22: Nintendogs from Nintendo
Sept. 26: Trace Memory from Nintendo
October: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney from Capcom
October: Texas Hold 'Em from Majesco
October: Trauma Center: Under the Knife from Atlus

Oct. 24: Real Time Conflict: Shogun Empires from Namco
Nov. 14: Mario Kart DS from Nintendo
Nov. 28: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time from Nintendo

Dec. 5: Animal Crossing from Nintendo
December: Golden Nugget Casino from Majesco
Fall: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow from Konami
Fall: Dig Dug Digging Strike from Namco
Fall: Zoo Tycoon from THQ

Taken together with the several really good titles already out, this is simply a stellar first year for a system by any standard. I wonder what it will be like next year when I anticipate some even meatier titles and the RPG's from Square and Atlus.

One thing about that list that has me wondering is if Majesco will even be around to release Age of Empires in January.

The GBA has some cool titles coming too, especially Rebelstar:Tactical Command. The video of it looked awesome, and the previews I've read say it's like Advance Wars with sci-fi weaponry and destructable environments.

Electroplankton...I just don't know. I look through the manual, and there's *LOTS* of Japanese text in there. True, many of the pages are that hand drawn comic looking stuff, but I have to wonder. I did take one (only one, thank god) semester of Japanese in school, and tho I do not remember most of it, I do know that as a general rule, figure two to five english characters for each hirigana and katakana, and two to five words for each kanji.

Those are very rough guestimates, but I do think there is lots more in the documentation than is evident to non-japanese speakers like me. That, plus the stuff that is being uncovered by people like the stuff you posted earlier makes me think that there is serious depth to Electroplankton that people like myself will just have to stumble upon.

There are some major costs to Americanizing any game, I think. Having to jump through the ESRB hoops, having to print up all the "warning! playing videogames will make you blind and grow hair on your palms" inserts, and the translation is bound to cost some bucks. Some ideas just do not translate well between languages and cultures. When you combine that with the very probable lukewarm reception Electroplankton would get here, well...I'm just thankful I have my copy.

Aw man. Your list sucks. Ultimate Brain Games got pushed back into 2006?! Who made that list?! Bunch of jerks that's who.

-

Anyways, here's my list... my revised watch list, that is:

* Trace Memory - a little advertisement goes a long way doesn't it? Now I'm really looking forward to this game
* Metroid Prime Pinball - Rumble accessory? Tilt sensitive? Hmmm, I don't know if I like the sound of that...
* Trauma Center: Under the Knife - New on the list - If I stop and think about it, I have to admit it does sound interesting... but it's just so weird!
* The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - If I buy it, why not for my DS? That is a big if tho'.
* Animal Crossing - Speaking of iffy...
* Ultimate Brain Games - 2006... you suck

Hey! What happened to Whack-A-Mole?!
Aha, see! I knew your list was a fake.

I had Ultimate Brain and Ultimate Card on the GBA, and I had high hopes for them before I bought them. At least Ultimate Brain Games only had a few bugs (no doubling cube in Backgammon, for instance), but Ultimate Card Games was shot through with bugs. That release was really pathetic. I hope the DS version are QA'd better.

I'm actually waiting for Yakuman from Lik-Sang. Mah-Jong Mario and Luigi style should be kind of fun. Metroid Pinball is a must-have. Advance Wars, too,...after I've seen some reviews.
