I have a P-4 1.7 gig 512ram 80 gig HD 16xDVD Geforce 3 64MB. Will i be able to run this game decent with my spec. I read in a mag that a geforce 3 can turn on almost all the bells and whistles in HL2 but and a big but will it runn a a decent frame rate i assume i will have to tone down things a bit to run it at a decent frame rate. Or do you guys think i will not even run the game good at all even turned down with my specs. Valve claims that the game will run good on low end systems and the game will automaticly config to your setup to run good i would say my system is still in the mid range catagory at this point. What do you guys think?

I'd say you have nothing to worry about. Seems to me you have a monster of a machine in front of the baby I'm using. The fact that I'm hopeful to play HL2 on my P3 850Mhz, 128 MB Ram, 16 Mb card sort of makes me laugh that there are others with much more powerful systems that are worrying about playing it. I'm sure you'll be just fine, but yeah you might have to tone things just a little down to get superb framerates.

Decent performance? Thats subjective. I think your system will run HL2, BUT now would be a good time to upgrade to a G3 128 or even a G4 128mb ti card. Prices have fallen on many of nVidias 128 ti cards.

If you read some of the other threads regarding Valves performance specs [benchmarks] comparing ATi & nVidia, you may come away thinking " Im doomed man, Im doomed!"...the current hoopla is that even the G4 128 ti cards will struggle. I think G3& 4 128mb ti cards will run HL2 fine, IMO. Time will tell [& the time grows short!].

I read that Valve were claiming a P3 750 with a TNT2 would do the job with everything set to minimum. I mean, I know developer's/publisher's minimum specs should always be taken with a pinch of salt, but a TNT2! for crud's sake... Anyway, fwiw I reckon a Geforce 3 or 4 will be fine as long as you don't expect all the bells and whistles. Pure speculation of course, but then this is a thread on Half-Life 2, so what did you expect?

Kevin... I would say that you'll be able to run it at 3/4 settings. I'm judging this entirely on the screenshots, but I would have to say from my experirence playing games, that it's a pretty good guestimate. I on the other hand will probably be able to run it at half setting (detail, texture size, buffering) but as long as I can play it, and it's as great as the first game, then it's fine... It'll give me something to play right off the bat when I upgrade next time.

Hey! I remember the specs on the original half-life

P133 without graphics accelator and 16mb of ram would run the game......yeah right as if....

As for hl2, my computer should run it with low to medium detail settings.

AMD AthlonXP 2200, 768mb ddr333, ATi Radeon 9000pro, soundblaster live! winxp :)

yeah, I know the 9000 isn't that great anymore. I'm saving up for a 9800pro :)
