Nintendo Announces DS Price Cut
8/16/2005, 8:57am Eastern Time

Today Nintendo announced a 13% price cut on the DS in the U.S., effective August 21. This will bring the price of the handheld system down from around $150 to around $130.
The cut comes nine months after the DS launch and will likely make it even more attractive to consumers deciding between handhelds. (ps)

Not that it's a huge price cut, but an extra $20 towards a new DS game sounds good to me. I'm going to buy my DS on the 21st, black color be damned.

Also, my wife played Nintendogs at a kiosk at Gamestop yesterday and sounded absolutely delighted by the game. From what I saw, the game has this insanely cute aspect to it that I think women will just melt over when they play it.

Dangit! Burned again!

I just got mine a month-and-a-half ago. Patience... when will I learn it...?

P.S.
Like the new avatar. If only it were holding a Wavebird tho' instead... then it would be perfect, eh.

Ah, beat me to the punch Trebor. . . saw the reuters article earlier http://today.reuters.com/business/newsArticle.aspx?type=technology&storyID=nWEN7595

Yeah, that should be a real boost dropping the price the same week as Nintedogs and Advance Wars release.

My wife already pre-ordered a copy of Nintendogs (Lab edition). I might get a copy too if she gets into it, its cool, and the wireless interactivty between the dogs is interesting. I'm so jonesing for Advanced Wars though I can't hardly think of anything else.

Yeah, hey, that 20 bucks will get you Feel the Magic * or some nice accessories**.

* GameStop and GameCrazy are selling the game for $19.99 (new) now. Don't know if anybody else is doing the same at this time.

** I bought the Naki "DS Deluxe Kit"...
http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801952&Section=#PROD
...$19.99, and I think it was one of my better purchases. It comes with:

- DS Car Charger - Haven't used it yet, but pretty much a gotta-have accessory, yes?

- DS Docking Station - Threw it away

- DS Headphones - these are quite nice actually; like earbuds

- DS Game Case - neat case, kinda like a cigarette case; it holds three DS games in this soft-rubbery non-slip stuff and the extra stylus (which we'll get to in a moment... )

- DS Carry Case - surprisingly well built - very well built - quality. I get two uses out of it:
1) when I travel, I use it to store all the other accessories (they all fit!) - and leave the DS out (doesn't really need a case, you know;

2) when I "store" my DS at home I put it in the case (using it as like a dust cover) and also keep the aforementioned Game Case, the extra stylus, and a couple of GBA games in it

- Bonus! DS Stylus - Double bonus! It's extra long! :D

Thanks. :)

Wavebird...yeah...I think that would be appropriate. Guess I'll have to flex my Photoshop skillz when I get the motivation to do so. ;)

Yeah, watching my wife play Nintendogs pretty much cemented the fact that I'll need to buy a second DS at some point - as you suggested. Between that and Animal Crossing, she probably would need her own personal system. Which also give me the excuse to buy an all black DS when it is released next year.

That is the great debate for me right now - what do I buy with my initial DS purchase, that is.

Contenders for game purchases include: Feel the Magic, Meteos, and SW:EP3. Why, you ask, would I want the Episode 3 game of all things? Because of the Rogue Leader-esque flight sequences, of course.

I'm also looking to pick up a screen protector, on account of my anal retentiveness towards system perfection, so if any of you gents would be so kind to suggest a good brand for me, that would be appreciated.

Meteos is to the DS what Lumines is to PsP. . . a killer app. They are a couple of the best puzzle games I've ever played--I know Tetris was more ground-breaking, but I enjoy both these games more than Tetris and have no doubt I will play them for years, just like I did tetris. A DS without Meteos is like cereal without milk.

Feel the Magic if you spot it cheap is a fun little game. Kirby is one of the most impressive, original and fun games I've played in very long time. . .totally rejuvinated side-scroll platforming for me.

All the other games I got I really liked, but I can't recommend them because your going to no doubt focus on a number of the really killer fall and winter titles.

I would though, seriously consider importing Electroplankton. There is zero language barrier to the "game" and I'm not really trusting that it will ever come to the US.

Oh yeah, if you get the Star Wars game, please post your impressions here. I never even looked at it or read a review, but you've got me intruiged. I didn't know it had any flight sequences.

Farckin' iceholes. There's $20 down the drain. Hey I just got in to work today and my DS was waiting for me. The thing has been charging for 2 hours now, and it is still not ready. Anyone know how long the first charge takes because I actually brought Meteos to work with me. I want to play at lunch.

Btw---I also picked up Kirby and preordered Nintendogs. Then I will pick up Advance Wars next week too.

Ouch! That is some timing there, just days before a surprise price drop (well, I guess they are all surprise, otherwise they'd be self-defeating!)

Dude, I can't wait to hear what you think of Meteos. . . especially after you've played it awhile and start unlocking stuff. What's funny is I picked back up Lumines a few days ago, and have unlocked some new skins and have developed an new appreciation for the game. Q Entertainment. . .man, that's a company to watch. I can't believe the same company released both Lumines and Meteos within 6 mos. of each other.

Oh yeah, on the charge time, it just charges until the orange light kicks off. I don't think it'll hurt anything to play it while its charging.

Hehe she just kicked off now so i'm gonna try it out. I will post some impressions later in the week, though. I want to give Meteos and Kirby a fair shake. All that I can say for now is that it was like 2 hrs and 15 min. for a full charge, the white color is really kickin' so ha ha to all of you, and WHAT no headphones included.
