I played a working demo of it in Toys R Us last week. I have to say, that title is going to be one endearing game. The demo first had you choose a puppy from a group. Then, while I was poking around with the stylus, the one I chose came up to the 'window' (think pet store window), and his nose followed the stylus around. Then he rolled over on his back, wanting his chin and belly scratched. Then he got up, cocked his head, and 'pressed' the side of his face against the screen, wanting his ears scratched.
The "Gotcha!" factor is instantaneous, more than any game I've ever played! The sound effects are just way too real! Right away, you feel like it's 'your' puppy. Very bizarre and compelling example of advanced AI tuned towards human psychology.
Needless to say, this will be a must-have game.
BTW, play a demo at Toys R Us at your own risk, as the demo DS is smeared with God knows what from kids playing with it.

What kind of dog are you going to get first?
I was thinking of getting a Beagle (available on the Dachsund edition) but I have a real Beagle. Actually, I have no idea what kind of dog my wife was wanting to get for her DS, though I know she pre-ordered the Labrador edition when I pre-ordered my Advance Wars (I haven't committed to actually getting my own copy of Nintendogs yet.)

I was thinking of getting a dog totally oppisite of my dog. Like, a small black one. Though all of the dogs in the Daschund edition I like, so I'll get one of the dogs from there. Most likely a retriever.

I'll probably get one that is closest to a miniature pinscher, which we had until she passed a few months ago :(
But next week looks to be exciting with the new game releases.
I ordered Electroplankton from Lik-Sang, and it shipped on the 5th. I opted for the free shipping (of course). Does anyone know how long it takes to arrive in the States?

I LOVE Electroplankton. I got in 3-days, but then I splurged on the 3-d shipping. I doubt even with regular shipping it'll take more than 9 days, but the website did say two weeks I think. It's beautiful to look out, and sounds amazing, but it MUST be played with headphones. They did something to it so that it comes out quietly from the DS speakers, but with really rich sound in the headphones. I've been using an 1/8th inch out to 1/4" jack and running it through various effects peddles, doing some noisecore 4 track recording with it.

I hope it comes soon. I sold a Dreamcast game to a guy in France a couple of years ago via eBay, and he was ultra cheap and wanted Surface Mail delivery. It took almost four months to get there! I hope I didn't screw up ...
I have a musicians sound card in my Mac, with 1/4" inputs via a breakout box, and music creation/mutation software too. So I am looking forward to doing some experimenting with it.
My wife commandeered my Sony earbuds, with their form-adapting plugs, airweight lightness, awesome output, and tangle resistant cords for her iPod. In return, I got her iPod earbuds. The Apple buds are ok, though, and I've been using them with the DS.

I already preordered the Dachsund version because I have to get the Pug. I bought my first Pug 8 years ago, my second 4 years ago, and am thinking of rescuing a 1 year old right now. Real dog or video game dog I will never own a different breed.

Oh christ. You just reminded me of a horror story of when we did a test adoption of a pug (lasted 24 hours before I freaked out) a couple years ago. Uhm, remember the dog Sparky from South Park? Let's just say my Beagle and the Pug could have been presented as a Natural Law defense in the trial of Oscar Wild. BARF!!!! (and this Pug. . . promised to me as house-broke. . . crapped in my house 3 times in 24 hours!)
Wouldn't that be the riot of the year, that in this most geeky of fanboy universes--electronic gaming--that a dog breed fanboy war broke out!
So. . . I extend the argument beyond which breed are you getting. Which Nintendogs breed do you think will be best, most fun, etc, and why?
Seriously. This is supposed to be some advanced AI. I wonder how different the experience will be based on what kind of dog you choose.

Ok Gadfly---what in the hell did you do to the Pug? My male would sooner die before it went in the house, and my female will go in the house but only if she is super pissed. They are very sensitive beasts.
Concerning your question, though, it is impossible for me to be unbiased here. I have experienced many different breeds and the Pug is the smartest, most loyal, funniest, and most loving breed to ever grace my life. Everyone that has ever met my dogs has really dug them whether they are "dog people" or not. Anyone that has ever gotten to dog sit either one when I have gone away has fallen in love with them. In fact, I am the only person that I know of that has zero difficulty getting dogsitters when I go on vacation. My fiancee and I are having a tough time deciding whether to adopt number three because we are worried about having to find three dogsitters when we go on our honeymoon and beyond. The thing is that, if the first two are any indication, then that should not be a problem.
That being said I could never understand why, if your favorite breed was represented in the game, you would buy any other one. Don't people want to see if Nintendo has done a good job representing their favorite breed?

I'm waiting for Nintendcats to come out. Ok, just kidding, but that would be pretty cool.
Anywho, I think my wife is eyeing the version with the Corgie (the breed Ein is from Cowboy Bebop).

That would be...interesting. I could see this game making excellent use of the stylus to wipe up gargantuan furballs. It could also be used to re-stitch the furniture after the kitties have had their way with it. You could also use it to poke at the cats ass when it tries to stick it in your face when you're trying to sleep. They could also use the mic to tell your cat to stop licking their goods right in front of you when you're trying to watch your soaps.

Dammit, Aria! Quit walking on the keyboard!! Friggin cats.
Oh yeah, Nintendogs. I'll be getting the Lab one, since I only like big dogs.

Touch the cat with the stylus to get its attention. Then take the stylus and bring it towards you. Maybe the cat comes and...maybe it doesn't.

Now, now, I could (and will) mention all the wonderful fun involved with cleaning up puddles of urine and piles of poop that every puppy invariably leaves upon the floor, but I won't (or did). That'll be a great utilization for the stylus. Or perhaps using the stylus to buy new pairs of shoes after the puppy has demolished them?
Also, and I'm not even joking right now, but when my wife was playing the demo, she patted the rump of one of the puppies and it stuck it's pixelated butt right up towards the screen - just like a real puppy would, pretty cool eh?

Hell yeah. Just turn the game on, then... leave it alone. Nothing to do but listen to it purr. :D Cat's are sweet.
I'm with trebor, give me Nintendcats.
Or what if EA gets to them first? Hey, what if an animal-exclusivity war breaks out, like what we've seen happen with the sports leagues? Nintendo signs an exclusive deal with dogs, gerbils (and hamsters and guinea pigs and mice and whatnot), and pot-bellied pigs; while EA agrees to an exclusive arrangement with cats, fish, birds, and ferrets... wouldn't that be something?

So then we'll get Nintend-rodents? Mini-games involving cleaning droppings from your cupboards and setting traps all used with the stylus.
Or
Sim Cat. Complete with expansion packs such as: Sim Cat - Litter University, Sim Cat - Making Magic Furballs, or my personal favorite, Sim Cat - Catnip Unleashed.

Yeah, how is that Nintendo bashing?
It would have been Nintendo bashing if I'd've said NintendMario. The game where pick your favorite baby plumber and train him. With your stylus you will teach him to: run, jump, smash barrels with a hammer, shoot fireballs, butt stomp, turn into a raccoon, ride a... green dinosaur-thingie, drive a go-kart, party, play tennis, play golf, say annoying things, in an annoying voice, and say them all time, party, use a squirt gun, use a vacuum cleaner, play baseball, dance, dance, and party.

You forgot the most important task for Mario...rescuing the princess. That is what he lives for.

I hope they put some of the dogs in as playable characters in the next Super Smash Brothers. Rottweiler vs Puddle ( I mean, poodle.)

Really? Is that what he's doing in Mario Kart, rescuing the princess? Or whatabout his objectives in Super Smash Bros? Or howabout Mario Tennis? Or Mario Golf? Is that why he's playing baseball? And are you telling me the reason he's now dance-dancing is because he's trying to save the princess?!
Sorry. Now it's breaking down isn't it. I digress.
Back to the subject of Nintendogs...
If I were to ever get a dog in real-life I'd either want a Miniature-Pinscher or a Cocker Spaniel or a German Shepherd. They don't have any Spaniels or Shepherds on any of the ND games. But they do have the Pinscher. He's on the one with the Lab (which would probably be my sixth choice of dog - behind boiled) so that's the one I would get... if I were to get the game.

That's not all he does smart ass, but that is what he lives for and how it all began. It's all about sniffin' the princess' chair and you know it. Mario would do anything for a little taste.
As far as that dog list goes---what the hell??? Could three breeds of dog possibly have less in common than those?

Amazon.com has Chihuahua and Friends for $14.99---half the price of the other breeds. Ren Hoek still gets no respect! But if you were wanting a Chihuahua, German Shepherd, Boxer, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Yorkshire Terrier or Shetland Sheepdog, looks like Amazon is the place to get them.
Since all 18 dogs are eventually unlockable in all versions of the game, this is a pretty sweet deal.
