I need help!
Just rummaging thru my old CDROMs and came across Descent, a game I was very much into years ago. Unfortunately, on my new PC the sounds a bit jumpy and it can't detect my USB joystick.
Can somebody please suggest a modern Descent-style game for me please! I've had a search on amazon and play.com but cant seem to find anything remotely similar...
Cheers all.

You took the words right out of my mouth, Aku.
FYI, I've gotten Descent 3 up and running with no problems on Windows XP and it runs smooth as silk to boot.
Yes, D3 rocks still today. Also Freespace 2 is awesome but it is time to bring Descent back from the dead.

I don't really consider the two to be the same kind of game, though. Descent is.... Descent. Free Space is more like an ultra linear super beefed up Wing Commander.
Yeah, in my opinion, Freespace 2 pretty much owns Descent (although I never played D3).
I played Descent 2. It just gave me headaches - way too disorienting. I prefer the open space of Freespace. I never have to worry about which way is up.
...Unless you're flying underneath a capital ship!

Thanks all.
I ordered Descent3 just after posting this and it arrived this morno. Had to get it thru an independant seller on amazon as they dont stock it themselves.
I must say, first impressions are very good. Cos the game was released in 1999, the min spec is relatively low. This is the first game that ive been able to crank all the graphics & sound options up to maximum on and still have it run fast & smooth.
Very happy. :D
Descent 3 is my favorite stick game [currently piloting with a Logitech 3D Pro]. Eye candy galore & it included OUTDOOR invironments that make me feel "there". I didnt care that much for D2 either.
Dont forget to use your advanced piloting techniques! [ie: the Circle Strafe, great for those nasty dogfights; The Spriral, great for gett'n away from overwhelming forces; and my fav: Triple Chording followed by burn'n for ultra fast speed!].
CAUTION, possible spoiler below!
SPOILER? Just in case you havnt played D3 before & want no perceived SPOLIERS, dont look below.
SPOLIER?
Did anyone unlock the hidden missions in D3 on your own?
