In case you have not heard about it, Dark Age of Camelot creators Mythic Entertainment have secured the rights and announced their newest project, an MMORPG based on Games Workshop's Warhammer world. And no, this isn't the one that was talked about a couple of years ago.

It should be a great game. Mythic really has something special in DAoC and the CEOs are already making some big claims about Warhammer.

And, still on a Warhammer tip, there's a new Warhammer RTS (not the 40K one) which was previewed in this month's edition of PC Gamer (and most likely numerous other places on the web). It went head to head with a preview of Battle for Middle Earth 2 and I think came out on top -- if there's any sense in saying anything can come out "on top" in a preview...

A Warhammer RTS sounds promising. I could definitely get into the Warhammer world; violent and dark, not cartoony and childish (cough...Warcraft). I hope Games Workshop will give their input on the game like they did with WH40k, which turned out beautifully IMO (even if it doesn't have airborne vehicles, /sigh). Is anyone planning to get the expansion?

Lol, I dumped my copy of Warcraft for that reason alone [did I miss anything?]

re: RTS games. I lost track of Battle for Middle Earth. Anyone play the full version?

LOL ForestGoblins' and your own comments on the game WoW are pretty ridiculous. Dumping a game because of it's graphical style equals pathetic IMO... I personally don't think that EQ or DAoC are anything special to look at either; in fact their everyday, common graphical style is so blase.

As for Warhammer, it's still WAY off- potentially Vapourware. I was contemplating getting into this game regardless of pay-per-pay fees, just because I have been a fan of Fighting Fantasy, Gamesworkshop and Warhammer RPG in particular. I too have an affinity with the world in general.

However, I hope they are going to be modeling the character creation process the same as in the RPG game, where basically certain classes opened up new avenues into other careers, and so forth; essentially the character generation process was fairly open-ended, since it depended upon acquired skills rather than levels. Someone with 5 careers was experienced, and generally not to be trifled with, because also with career advancement, attribute stats increased exponentially.

An example high "level" character's progression careers route:
Start as a Beggar -> Bodyguard -> Bounty Hunter -> Assassin -> Witch Hunter -> Outlaw Chief etc, etc.

As you progress, you increase your attributes that are available to increase as per the career choice, gain the available skills for each career (some are doubles for the particular path above), and when you have gained the appropriate adavnces, you're good to move on to the next class. If I remember correctly, Attribute and Skill advancements where bought at 100 XP per purchase.

All-in-all though, you can see how it could take potentially a while to advance as the above example, considering that many of the above careers need 20+ skill/attribute increases to be considered "complete".

Anyways, I too am looking forward to it, but I'm not going to be holding my breath.

Well graphical style does influence many game buying decisions; the reason Ragnarok is doing so well in Asia is because of its anime-style look.

I didn't say that I dumped my copy of WoW. My account is still active and I have a well equipped level 60 warrior on Thunderlord and a 55 hunter on Warsong. I am considering cancelling my account, however, but not because of the graphics. I recently started a new job and really don't have time to sit around waiting to get into a battleground or spend 4 hours in Molten Core. This is unfortunate because I just joined a great guild that runs MC often. Not that I expect Warhammer to be any less demanding of time... PvP is also shallow and winning a BG has no effect on the world; you win Alterac Valley, get 2,000 honor, and the instance resets. In DAoC you take keeps and zones to gain statistical bonuses for your entire faction. It is my hope that Mythic will include something like this in Warhammer. I usually don't allow graphics to overshadow gameplay when it comes to deciding to play a game. But it is a factor, and I tend to like more realistic graphics.
