I missed this announcement, and in all my griping about lack of even a distant announced title of interest for the PsP, I'm surprised no one pointed this one out. Yeah, its a 2006 release, but at least there's confirmation of some future hope for the system.

Check out the screenshots. . .really pretty. Just judging from the screenshots its hard to tell how the game will play. It actually looks like part of the game has you moving on spaces like Culdcept, and other parts show these huge grid free battles--like Phantom Brave-- with massive numbers of fighters.

I first read about this game at a Nintendo fansite of all places, where it was reported Nippon Ichi is considering developing games for the Revolution and the 360 (another blow for the Ps3.)

GENERATION OF CHAOS Announced for the PSP

NIS America Unveils its first Strategy Role-Playing Game for the Popular Handheld Entertainment System

Anaheim, Calif. (June 08, 2005) - Strategy role playing game publisher NIS America Inc. announced today its plans to release Generation of Chaos for the PSP(TM) portable entertainment system. Generation of Chaos is scheduled to ship in North America in spring 2006.

Generation of Chaos, developed by Idea Factory, is one of the more popular RPG series in Japan, and the 2006 release for the PSP(TM) marks the first time the series has appeared in North America. Featuring all the essentials that made its predecessor one of the most addictive strategy RPG titles for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, GOC jumps onto the PSP(TM) with evolutionary game play.

About Generation of Chaos

Battles for world domination have been dragging on for generations. Now Allen of Zodia rises to end all wars and bring peace to the world. After the opening story, the player uses the strategy mode to build and strengthen the kingdom. In the beginning, the kingdom is small and weak. However, as you progress through the game, the player can conquer neighboring kingdoms and stretch its ruling powers throughout the land of Duke.

Unlike other RPGs for the PSP(TM), Generation of Chaos features massive, sixty-character battles as well as sneaky espionage tactics.

Other features include:

Massive 30 vs. 30 real time army battles.

Customizable troops and commanders.

Freedom to fight with or against neighboring kingdoms.

Your decisions during the game will change the outcome of the war.

In searching for future glimmers of hope for the PsP, I found that Atlus is doing an RPG, Persona, which last appeared on the Ps1. I found no info about the PsP version, but in looking for something about what this game was, I was reminded that once upon a time, people used to write reviews at this site, and that's what first drew me here.

Have you heard of Poplolcrois (http://www.agetec.com/products.asp?MyView=Coming+Soon&ProductID=147&ProductName=PoPoLoCrois)yet? Agetec is bringing it out over here, it looks like it could be a big batch of old school RPG fun.

Popolocrois is also coming to the PSP? Wow, old stuff. That's another PS1 game there. I don't think that was ever released in the US though, was it? Persona is being done as well, heh

Actually I think Popolocrois for psp is a combination of 2 PS1 games and some storyline from the anime.

Originally it was scheduled for a Aug. 23 release. That's been pushed back to Sept. 27, and now, Oct. Oh well, I'm willing to wait as long as Agetec hooks it up.

There are 3 Persona games as well, but I only played one: Eternal Punishment. It was really good, but interviewing demons really drew the battles out, and it has a really Japanese oriented difficulty curve. But it would be sweet to get all three packed on one UMD.
