I'm stuck in Chapter 3, Friend and Enemies. I got Minelli's glass eye and I've used it on the scanner to get to the file room. I've logged onto the computer and did Search on Warren Hughes and Selected Erica Hughes. I've edited his file and did a print out. I then deleted his file. I did search for Church of Voltec and selected Jacob McAllen found his file and the code in the corner. I then did a search for Erika's number and selected print. I logged off computer.
I then went to the control panel and push the selected buttons to match the code from Jacob McAllen's file. Each time I press the red light comes on. I did search and printed out this part from a walkthrough, I CAN'T GET OUT OF FILE ROOM. I've played this part over and over, about 7 times now and I still can't get out of file room. From a walkthrough I decided what I'd done wrong was I hadn't gone back to the computer and done a search after the control panel for Vanguard, so I went to computer and did a search for Vanguard. I still CAN'T GET OUT OF FILE ROOM. I've taken the printouts, I've tried everything I can think of but I can't leave, so it is something I'm doing or not doing.
Help would be appreciated.
Thank you.
An Adventure Game Lover

This is from two different walkthroughs. Any of this help?
Archive: Exit and go to the door at right of the pop machine. Use Minnelli's eye on retinal scanner. In the Archive room is a printer, computer (http:///#) and control panel. Use the computer (#) and search for Warren Hughes. Click on 'Erika Hughes' to remember her colonization number. Click on 'delete' and then 'print' on the screen. Click on 'Main' and search (scroll down) for the col#0050123185353260 (if you search for Erika Hughes or Vanguard, there will be no info available). Print the info about Erika Drake. Click on 'main' again and search for Church of Voltec. Click on Jacob McAllen's name on the screen. Search for Jacob McAllen and after the warning, click continue and look close at the code at bottom right (make note of it). Go back to 'main' and select Log off. Take the printouts from the printer. Look at and use control panel. Enter the code seen on Jacob McAllen's search. Click on buttons 11, 16, 1 and 8. Look at the Vanguard folder automatically placed in inventory and find the Vanguard datacube.
Reception area: Exit archive and go to the reception area.
Go to the other terminal (the bottom wall) and enter the four code symbols (When you point at the keyboard (http:///#), you can see the numbers of each key. The right combination is 11, 16, 1, 8. The machine will fetch a folder. Look at the folder in the inventory, You'll learn there is an item inside, take the item. It is a DATA CUBE. Go to the printer and take the PRINTOUT, then leave the Archive

This is one I tried, after being stuck:
Archive: Exit and go to the door at right of the pop machine. Use Minnelli's eye on retinal scanner. In the Archive room is a printer, computer and control panel. Use the computer and search for Warren Hughes. Click on 'Erika Hughes' to remember her colonization number. Click on 'delete' and then 'print' on the screen. Look at the Vanguard folder automatically placed in inventory and find the Vanguard datacube.
This is a second one I used:
At the Archive door use the ARTIFICIAL EYE on the RETINA SCANNER. The Archive Door opens, enter.
Click on the COMPUTER (on the top wall) and April will enter the password. Click SEARCH and choose the name WARREN HUGHES.
You get the file. Read it. First click DELETE then click PRINT. You can hear the printer starting. Look at the computer again. You have killed Warren. Look for his sister's name and colonisation number and click on it. (You must do this to get the data among your search choices.) Click SEARCH again. This time choose Erica's colonisation number. (There is nothing on her name.) When you get the file, PRINT it.
Now search for info about the Church of Voltec and Jacob McAllen. When you get Mc Allen's file you get a message to report at headquarters. Look at the bottom of the screen and click on CONTINUE. At the bottom right on the next page, you will get a code consisting of 4 symbols, write them down. Log out.
Go to the other terminal (the bottom wall) and enter the four code symbols (When you point at the keyboard, you can see the numbers of each key. The right combination is 11, 16, 1, 8. The machine will fetch a folder. Look at the folder in the inventory, You'll learn there is an item inside, take the item. It is a DATA CUBE.
Go to the printer and take the PRINTOUT, then leave the Archive,
And then I tried this one:
What are those strange symbols I see when I search for Jacob McAllen?
It would be smart to remember them. Or, you can take a look at the picture of the symbols below.
Jacob McAllen's Symbols
Have you taken a look at that control panel on the other side of the room from the computer?
Press the buttons there in the order you saw on the computer.
Specifically, press the buttons numbered 11-16-1-8 in that order, and you'll get a folder. (You'll see the numbers if you move the cursor over each of the buttons and wait a second.)
Look inside the folder to find a small datacube.
LAST TRY!
Go out and use the glass eye with the scanner on the door to the right
of the vending machine.
Go inside the archives and search for Warren Hughes in the computer.
Look at his sister’s colonization number before you delete the info
about Warren and print it out.
Search for the colonization number and print out the info.
Search for Altec’s church and look at the name “Jacob McAllen.” Search
for him.
Go to the next page and look at (and write down for yourself) the code
in the lower corner.
Turn off the computer and look at the control panel on the document
finder across the room.
Enter the code you saw when you searched for Jacob McAllen.
Take the papers in the printer before you leave the station and head
back to building 87 (Warren).
HELP I'M STUCK. seems to happen to me everytime I try any or all of the above walkthrough. I just know I'm missing one tiny part but for the life of me can't figure that part out.
The problem is there is no folder in the inventory so therefore no printout and no data cube.
I've saved the game at the point of her using the glass eye with the scanner. So I was lucky in saving it there. Each time I use that as my starting point. But I must be missing one tiny fact as I can't get out, because there is no data cube in inventory.
Thank you Lara for getting back to me. I just love these games, but I do get stuck then I get frustrated. Thanks again for your help.
BRB going to try again :-)
Nope still didn't work. But I did notice that I still had the delivery list in my inventory and it said Map of Northerlands to be delivered to Tun Luice at the Journeyman Inn. Now this was in Chapter 2, would not doing this cause a problem in Chapter 3?
Thanks again, Dean'a
I found this on The Longest Journey's forum.
The secret is to only press the keys once. Go through the sequence and at the end wait and the green light shows. Dont worry about getting the red light.
Are you pressing the buttons in this order 11-16-1-8? Ignore the fact that the light is red. It should turn green after you have pushed all 4 buttons.

I kept wondering about always getting a red light and I never did see a green one. So I'm going to go back to that room and push those numbers in that order, yes that is the order I'm pushing them, I'll wait for green. I never waited long enough I guess. I kept looking for a file to show up too. Ok hopefully this works. Your a jewel. Dean'a

Once again Lara to the rescue :-) Thanks hun. That did it. one tiny word from you and I'm on my way. I kept thinking, that was my first mistake thinking, that it would light up each time. And each time I'd get a red light. So . . . when you said hit it one time I thought, worth a try. So I did just that, didn't wait for a light and wam bam the thing is moving up the wall to get the archive. (Silly me) Thanks, Dean'a

I'm so glad that worked out! I did play TLJ when it was first released, but couldn't remember exactly what to do or what you may have missed. After finding the solution for you, I do recall that room and that a lot of people got stuck in the same spot, including me!!
Enjoy the rest of the game. :)

Now I'm stuck on the boat :-) lol wonder if I'll ever make it to the end lol
Here's the situation.
From a walkthrough:
Go back to the bridge. Since the Captain is worried about his apple shortage, let us give him something to distract him away from the bridge. In inventory, combine worm with apple and then show the apple with worm to the Captain. Now, Talk to Tun about relieving her of the wheel. After Tun leaves to stretch her legs and since the compass is affected by magic, use the Talisman on the compass. April calls Tun back. Talk to Tun about straying off course so that she changes the course and about the storm getting closer. Talk to her again and she tells of the possible dangers ahead if they where on course to Alais. The storm gets nearer. Take the talisman from the compass. The irate Captain takes the talisman to hide it away from the Spirit compass.
Now to my problem:
We are in the middle of the storm and I'm standing at the side of the boat/ship. I am unable to retrieve the talisman from the compass. However, when I go below to try and find or retrieve the tailsman from the chest it is unlocked and the axe "shines" when placed near the chest (as if it should) but I am unable to hit the chest. (because I didn't retrieve the talisman from the compass.) I do save my game often, so, I returned to the bridge and I can't even get near the compass to try to retrieve it - I just get the "eye" and April talks about the compass.
When I tell Tun *girl turning the wheel* that I may have gone off course she checks compass, at that point I should be able to retrieve the tailsman = but am not = but the captain is coming up stairs and they talk and storm is raging and I end up standing at the railing. I've tried and tried to retrieve it. I think just to see the Captain getting mad and running away with it would be funny. Plus this would be the end of this chapter.
Thank you so much for any time you can give to me in helping me move on with my "quest".
With much appreciation,
Dean'a
This is Chapter Six so I'm doing pretty good. This is an awesome game but wouldn't let children play it because of the language in it. I am hitting the excape keys more than any other game I've played lately.
Thanks, Dean'a

Not sure if I got what you said there. You are unable? to retrieve the talisman from the compass? If so make sure you talk to Tun 3 times. ( April calls Tun back. Talk to Tun about straying off course so that she changes the course and about the storm getting closer. Talk to her again and she tells of the possible dangers ahead if they where on course to Alais. The storm gets nearer.)
Then try clicking around more on the talisman hanging from the compass, not the compass itself.

Heh, yeah. I'm expecting to hear more from you. I don't mind though. It's kinda fun. :) It brings back memories of a game I really enjoyed!
This thread gives me an idea as to what the adventure genre in gaming may be about. I asked Lara in the past about TLJ, but never commited to the game. [I noticed TLJ series bundled for cheap lately...]
Hey FunDee, have you by chance played Morrowind? Much adventure there, though it be RPG based.
Hey Dan, TLJ is one of only a few adventure games that a lot of the guys from this forum liked. It's a good break from RPG, FPS games, etc.
I still feel MYST was the best "thinking" adventure game ever. All of the MYST sequels were better graphically, but for gameplay, MYST was awesome.
One of these days I'll play Morrowind...With all the expansions, it looks that this game could go on forever!

Hi,
Nope never played Morrowind, never heard of it. I LOVED Mist, it was awesome!!!
I completed TLJ what an ending lol old lady and crow, to cute. Don't want to say to much. I'm selling it on eBay starting bid is $! :) I got my money's worth out of it. I put a lot of pictures on my listing too.
Was a blast. Almost got stuck again, but said "now what would Lara do" lol pure logic sometimes or just a tiny spot that I'm not seeing turn colors for me.
Ok now I have to find a new Adventure.
Oh I'm sure you'll hear from me when I get stuck again lol

Hi,
Never played Morrowind. RPG Role Playing Game, is that on the internet or alone:
Oh my yes, TLJ was a great game it had 13 Chapters I sometimes wondered if it would every end and at the same time not wanting it to.
Best of luck with you Adventures.

Congratulations on finishing the game on your own!! :D Good for you!
Dean'a, have you played Syberia? If not, that's a good one. I've played both Syberia 1 and 2. I liked the first better, but the second isn't bad.

Hi Dean'a, Morrowind has a great single player experience awaiting you [playing it alone is best for me due to limited gaming time]. While it is a role playing game, there is much adventure to be had. In Morrowind, you begin as a nobody with virtually no resources or weapon/defenses. The story takes place on Vvardenfell, an island in the province of Morrowind. Though the game has a plot with main quest to follow, you can choose any path you wish, & have numerous options for side quests. All this activity will yield your character experience & wealth. There is a main antagonist to deal with eventually [IF you choose to do so]. Feel free to do what you want knowing you can return to the main storyline @ anytime.
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind [aka Morrowind] can be had for cheap these days, will consume hundreds of hours if you choose a leisurely pace & explore all there is to be found on the Island of Vvardenfell.
Heres a link for an overview of Morrowind, includes some screenshots too.

If you shop eBay, Morrowind can be had for next to nothing [like $10!].

It looks like yet another Myst clone to me. Now, if they would just come out with a sequel to Grim Fandango (the best adventure game ever!), I would get it in a second. I think this thread may finally nudge me to pick up Longest Journey. It's always staring me in the face in the game stores, and it's always $15.
If you like puzzle solving, I have read reviews that say it's a good game.
Aku, I just reloaded Grim on my laptop this week. I felt like playing it over for some unknown reason. :)
Maybe I just felt like having a good laugh. photoasylum (Steve) just started playing Psychonauts, a game created by Tim Schafer, who also made Grim Fandango. I'm looking forward to finding out if this game is up to par with Grim.
I saw Psychonauts in the store. It's easy to see why anyone would play Grim again. The great characters, the music, the noir atmosphere, memorable scenes like Manny doing beat poetry, and the final poignant ending. A classic.

Amazon has TLJ for $10 now.
Re: Grim Fandango, I thought Id check out the game, read some reviews & get a feel for what the gameplay was like. I have yet to find a new copy, perhaps its one of those "collectables" considering I found a few used ones for $20-$25 ea! I'll keep searching...
Dan, you might have better luck on ebay for Grim. If you can get your hands on a copy, I don't think you will be disappointed. It is a classic. My game was a bday present from the site admin of PC Game Review, back in the good old days. :)
Try and get it. It's one of only two games I've ever played where at the end I was actually sad it was over and missed the characters (the other being Baldur's Gate 2).

Lara,
Yes, I played Syberia 2 first loved it so much had to play the first one. What graphics. Was an awesome game - I got stuck once and you helped me :) was a weird place to get stuck, I couldn't get the train thru the gate cause I couldn't see the guy "behind" the telescope - he blended in to well with everything else. You told me of a walkthrough that your friend had written you said she's very precise and in her walkthrough she said, see the Capt. there by the telescope. I was like huh, so when I started the game I was like shocked to see him.
In fact I loved the Syberia games so much that I even played Amerzone, was ok but nothing like Syberia. (I like that kind of adventure, clean, no killing, just solving clues and getting someplace.)
Have a great weekend,

Hi,
Yes I'm playing that one, along side my granddaughter who is 9, It is pretty cute very nice smooth movements. She really likes it. She, not me, could scare the monkeys away. They were to fast for me, leave it to younger hands.
I a nice sort of game, nothing like Syberia or Tthe Longers Journey.
A rather quick game. You could complete it in a weekend, so I'd say 2 or 3 days of playing. (Depending on the weather of course) :-)

Oh! I didn't remember you asking for help in Syberia until you refreshed my memory.:o
Now I remember!!!
I agree, Amerzone was ok, but not as good as Syberia.
Grim Fandango is nothing like any of these games. But it is quite entertaining and hilarious! I highly recommend it.
Good thought Lara, I visited eBay this am & discovered several Grim offereings.
There are a few new, unopened games available. Bidding starts low as usual, but I see the new copies that near closing of bid hit $25 or more [but if the games that good, $25 is a bargain, yes?].
Grim sounds like a hoot, based on Mexican folklore, played in the land of the dead, off to collect souls in order to earn your passage to a final resting place. With general high reviews & VGR regulars recommending Grim, I'll get into the eBay bidding on a new copy of Grim ;)
I'll let you know how I do.
[Hey Aku, care to sell your copy of Gothic2?]
....thought I'd take a long shot @ finding a new copy direct from LucasArt [whats the chances of a 1998 game still being offered by original Co?]
Turns out LucasArt is still selling Grim on site, for $15 + $6 shipping [Gas prices are starting to be reflected in shipping cost, lol].
Thanks for encouragement on my first true Adventure genre game!
If you can't get it for less than $15 on ebay, I would go for buying it from Lucas Arts. Amazon's price is higher and with shipping would cost close to $30.

Hi!
I've been hunting around all day for this and I'm going insane. I too am stuck here and tried all of the above, but even when i press the right buttons in order (11-16-1-8) and wait no file still comes.
I bought Longest Journey today. The game holds my personal all-time record for the game I've almost bought the most times before finally getting it. I think I first almost bought it about four years ago, and almost bought it on average about four or five times a year since then.
Enjoy! Let us know what you think.
