This is pretty damn neat... (http://www.artlebedev.com/portfolio/optimus/)
I could see some good uses come from this. Specially on the Photoshop/Max/Maya shortcut front. Instead of having to learn all the keyboard commands you'll have a nice little icon showing exactly what does what displayed on the keyboard.
And of course it's implementation in games is pretty cool as well. The Quake III layout shows what can be done with this.

Eh, then you'd have to get familiar with the symbols for PS etc... Same difference :) However, I too see the use of such a keyboard for games, especially with backlit buttons. Didn't see a price tag on it. I suspect for now it's a piece of art. My suggestion is that the artist better get one ASAP, before MS scoops it up.

It's in planning/production so there won't be a price tag on it yet. But the little FAQ on the right side of the screen said it'd be about the same price as your average cell phone, so I'm guessing it'd be in the $100-150 range. Pretty expensive for a keyboard, but not break-the-bank costly.

Looks pretty cool but I'd rather the key display data applied to a pad designed specifically for gaming like the Nostromo N52. Now that would rock.

D'oh! I meant that the artist better get a patent...

It's patent pending, which means that if someone tries to steal the idea they can say they presented the idea to the patent office first.
