Hehe. My new favourite game. Ever since Mochan brought it up (even with the bugs), I was curious to give it a try. It was a toss up between that and BF2, but since I'm more of a role-player at heart, I opted with Boiling Point, and so far I'm not disappointed. What's even more exciting for me, is that the developers worked on Codename: Outbreak, another fairly open ended game, with lots of aliens and conspiracy plots, with many ways to complete each level as well.
There's another HUGE patch due to be released in a week or so, so I'm just waiting patiently for that as it fixes a slew of irksome things I detected right off the bat. Vehicle AI, characters' voices are too low, etc. Also, there's a slated expansion to be released, and this potentially could have co-op! That would simply be incredible if it does. Here's a nice resource to check out all your Boiling Point needs: http://www.xenus-hq.net/
Thnaks all for bringing this to my attention. It's just what the doctor ordered for me... heh. I LOVE how you can get bombed on Gin and Tonics and then hop in your car! Woot!

The game's not perfect but it's still great! A lot of the humor also makes me laugh, like the "secret agent under cover in the middle of enemy territory" and how Saul seems to have a nickname "the boys at ome used to call him" for every occasion.

It would be a huge improvement although I'm still looking for car driving improvement, don't know if that falls under Car Dynamics. I'm also for more randomization in the encounters you meet along the road, I'm getting a little sick of seeing the same battles over and over in the exact same spots. Enemy hunting behavior would also be nice though I think that goes beyond the scope of the game and is something we'll be getting from Stalker instead.
The final touches would be overall performance improvement. I'd also like a little more variety and creativity in the environments but we can wait for an expansion for that. I don't think that's the jurisdiction of a patch.
Anyway they've been testing Patch 2 for over a week now I hope they get it out soon.

Ya i bought it to because of how much mochan was enjoying it.Its defffenitley a breath of fresh air.I know alot of people have had isssues with the framerate but i was lucky and have had no problems.I will finish the game when i get my new graphics card though because my geforce 3 ti runs the game but its pretty choppy in some spots. My geforce 6600 GT when it was still living ran the game perfect.

Was wondering when you'd show up. This game needs CPU more than GPU so I'm not surprised that your Ti200 actually ran it without too much mishap but naturally you should wait to get a new GPU. Might as well wait for the new patch to come out as well. Steve's 3400+ should be able to run the game flawlessly. How's your performance SbS?
I quit GTA already but BP is still here to stay for me though I admit GTA sidetracked me from BP for a bit.

Uh, I'm definitely stumbling in regards to graphics. I only have a Geforce MX 5500 oc, so it's a pretty basic GPU card. However, with almost every feature turned on, it runs fairly well. I can do without some features if I really have to, such as bump-mapping and so forth, until I upgrade my card (which I will be for X3: The Reunion). So far though, even with bump-mapping turned on, it's running smooth enough, but I would prefer it if it were off, simply for a smoother frame rate...

Be glad you didn't get BF2 then...alot of people are pissed off cuz it refuses to run on anything below a Radeon 9x/Geforce FX card.

LOL, I didn't realize you had a monster CPU and a ***** cat for a GPU. =_= I avoided the entire 5000 series for a good reason.

LOL You know the goodness of Codename: Outbreak, don't you brother! ;) This game makes me want to fire it up again, actually.
Good news that I didn't get BF2 then, I'll wait till I upgrade and then get the Gold version...

I'd probably join you, but I can't remember what I did with the damn CD. It kinda makes me wanna fire up Ghost Recon on the side, though. :P

Got back to my Boiling Point game lately. It's been slowing down as I've been going around the jungles. I think my savegame is getting so big that it's slowing down my performance. Kinda sucks. I need to upgrade my soon, the game is starting to become unplayable.

Yeah, there MAY be a fix for that issue on the boards here: http://www.xenus-hq.net/index.php?l=en&forum=1&x_action=index Seems to ring a bell. Good luck.

Let me know if you do. DBS and I are thinking of firing it up, so another player will only add to the fun! :)

Ghost Recon also has the benefit for me of not suffering too much from high ping during multiplayer.

Right on! So, how about next Friday then? The 29th? We can work out a good hour where even Mochan can join at a respectable hour! Heh. I would say tonight, but A) I don't have it installed, patched, etc., and B) I'm scheduled to play SWAT4 tonight with DBS. Though others are welcome to play on our closed server from here as well.
As for Ghost Recon, I'm in the gym Fridays, so I probably won't be able to play until at least 0100 GMT, which is like what, 7-8 in the morning (Saturday) for you Mochan?! LOL At least if we start that time, you'll be able to game until noon or so, for certain...
Get back to me on both games. If you're down for the SWAT4 multiplayer, we'll contact you and set you up with the server details. If you haven't got the game, shame on you. It's pretty tasty, especially for its' multiplayer content.

7-8 morning Saturday is no problem. Actually that's right after I get home from work so it works just fine.
Now my problem is I need to find a copy of Island Thunder. Do you guys play with Harntrox? Which mods are we looking at?
As for SWAT4 I don't actually have the game. I'd need to find myself a copy first and I don't think I've ever seen it around here. I'll have to resort to "other means" to get a copy, if ever. I think I'll see to trying to find it this weekend.
BTW I tried some of the Boiling Point fixes, didn't work! If anything disabling precaching made the game slower. Well I'll put BP on hold first until Patch 2 comes out, and get back to Ghost Recon and try out Swat 4.
Suicides-by-Steve
07-22-2005, 08:26 AM
I know that DBS has a Thai copy of SWAT4, so it's somewhere within a country or two of yours! LOL
I looked up Harntrox, and really, I'm not certain we'll even need it. If we play, we'll probabally play mainly Deathmatch, but if we do play co-op for a few rounds, the vanilla flavoured game should suffice. Don't forget, if we all get together, they'll be 4+ of us playing. I don't know howthis mod will run on my new machine, but I know at times some mods really made the game unstable for me on my old one.
I have Island Thunder, but if you don't have it, and can't get it by next weekend, then I won't install it. It's been long enough since I played it last, that even the original game will seem original again. LOL SWAT4 reminds me in many ways of Ghost Recon.

If you guys play the original let me know i have it ill play to,although i dont have any of the expansions.

Harntrox is my favorite GR mod and I never ran into any stability issues with it. It also adds some nice guns that I'd really like to have like the G3, FN Fal, etc. so I really recommend getting it.
Also, for GR coop nothing beats Harntrox! The experience is a far cry from the vanilla coop game!
Since Bane doesn't have Desert Siege or Island Thunder, let's do without them and just install the normal game plus Harntrox, I think that should be okay. I have some modpacks here that I have tested 100% to work properly but at the least I'd recommend getting Harntrox.
Also the cool thing is I can now play Ghost Recon at 1280x1024 4xAa 16xAF with everything set to the max, wahahahahaha!!!

Only x16?! Oh, and who said anything about co-op?! LOL I thought we were having a deathmatch! 4x6= fun as hell! I'm good for either/or. And both, throughout the course of the night/day. I'll fire up the game on the old lady's comp, and despite the ****ty GPU, I'll put you to shame Mochan! ;)
SbS and I have been discussing putting together a group to game now and then. RPG-Role Players Guild will invite all you guys who are interested and we can play games like:
Ghost Recon, Swat 4, Unreal Tournament 2004, Vietcong, Splinter Cell PT/CT, CSS,AvP 2, CoD,Motocross Madness 2,Chrome, Race Driver 2,Jedi Academy,Tribes Vengence, NwN, Guild Wars.
We just have to get some times posted and what games we need. I don't have any of the expansions to GR but I am willling to pick em up. Ebay here I come...course they gotta be cheap by now.
Anyone who even remotely liked Swat 3 pick up Swat 4. I found the retail game far superior to the demo and it is a ton of fun. Co Op the game rocks too.

I currently have AVP2 installed, as well as Vietcong and UT2k4, and am fully multiplayer capable for them (except I usually get kicked out of Vietcong for having a high ping).
I have the 2 Splinter Cells as well but they aren't legit copies so I don't think I can get onto a Multiplayer server with them. Same with NWN, and I am a bit loathe to actually go out and buy those games. I'll think about it though if I ever come across a good bargain for them.
Suicides-by-Steve
07-25-2005, 07:03 AM
Actually, I really only want to stick the RPG Guild Tag on online MP RPG games. Shooters be damned! LOL
Anyways, everyone let me know if we're on for this Friday. Seems, like we'll only need core game, since the majority of us don't have all maps... :(
Mochan
07-25-2005, 07:22 AM
I should be ready for some Ghost Recon action by Friday. I'm also SWAT 4 ready but I think I need to play on the Public Server patch because I haven't managed to procure a legit copy yet. (Having 2nd thoughts as well because the game has some instabilities on my system -- might be due to the UK version maybe getting the US version will be better for me)
But the game is pretty cool and the multiplayer is quite good so far though I've only tried barricaded suspects, not coop or VIP or any other mode.
By the way, anyone interested in some Battlefield 2? I think only three people on this forum have it.
What other RPG games does the "RPG Guild" play, anyhow? Aside from Guild Wars and NWN.
Suicides-by-Steve
07-25-2005, 11:55 AM
I will wait most likely to play BF2 likely around Christmas or so. That's when I'll be buying a better GPU to run most of the newer games on the old-lady's comp.
Though nothing is set in stone, games such as Freelancer, Diablo, Dungeon Siege, and so forth (basically if you can play it online and its' a roleplaying game), I want to incorporate into the fold. Obviously there's not a ton of new games to select from, but DS2 will be a big one for sure, and I'm even now contemplating a revised banner (for the RPG Guild website), in preparation of making this jump.
One thing that is holding me back was the work I put into the UI, and I would hate to have to scrap it entirely... LOL
Having a large guild tends to have you meeting a varied selection of people, so it's a good way to stay in contact with those you like to game with most, while keeping you current on whats new in the industry. Just because I play Guild Wars and NWN often, doesn't mean my other games will be taking a back seat... especially for something a big as DS2... which IMO is pretty much on par with Guild Wars in most regards... and I'm certain, most players in our guild in GW, would enjoy the game immensely.
