Saw Episode III this afternoon, and it's my favorite of the series. Backtracking a bit, I got the original trilogy for my birthday, so I watched those. Then I rented Episodes I and II off Netflix, and watched them. Then I went to the movies today to see Episode III. What made it cool is that I watched them all in succession,(well, 4-5-6-1-2-3), and that I had never seen Episodes I and II before. So, I had the unique advantage of seeing Episodes I - III in order, and all for the first time. Watching Episodes I and II without all the expectations and preconceptions that people had going to see them when they were released let me really enjoy them on their own merits. And not only was I not disappointed, I really liked all of them. Furthermore, I think they are better than the originals in several ways other than just the special effects. I found them to be deeper and much more cohesive, go further into exploring the nature of the Force, and paint a much broader and more fully realized Star Wars universe. Sure there are some flaws, and some cringe-worthy moments (mostly in Episode I), but they are a great addition to Star Wars lore. Yoda is a much bigger and more important character in these movies. Ewan McGregor did a great job of channeling Alec Guinness, while putting his own stamp on Obi-Wan. He is my favorite character of all the Star Wars films. This trilogy does a great job of telling the story up to birth of Luke and Leia. Of course, I will always like the first trilogy for nostalgiac reasons, and I want to fire up Episode IV again this weekend and watch it for the first time as a true sequel. So many scenes in that film have so much more meaning now thanks to Episode III. Here's how I rate the movies, in order of how much I like 'em:

Episode III
Episode IV
Episode II
Episode V
Episode I
Episode VI

Your assessment of the order of likenes matches my own. The tarzan bit in the third movie was pretty sucky though. Now to watch War Of The Worlds.

What's the Tarzan bit? Now the Frankenstein scene that I'd heard people talk about, I agree, that was laughably bad. Oh man, when Vader comes off that table they may as well have just had bolts sticking out of the side of his head, LOL. They could have done that scene so much more gracefully, and it would have been really powerful.

And I did watch episode IV today, and it IS cool seeing it after episode III.

The scene where the Wookies are attacking a clone attack vehicle, has them swinging on vines, mimicking Tarzan's cry as they do so. AhhAHAHahahaaaa! Totally cheezy, and highly unoriginal...

Oh...that. I guess Lucas never got the Ewoks out of his sytem, because that's the memory that scene evoked.
