Let me be the first...

I've been wondering recently, what with all the new games and sequels coming out soon, which ones are the MOST hyped or anticipated titles of the new releases? Mine's Thief III. Yours would be...?

I want most on this list and I want them soon!

Tough choices..but I gotta go with Thief III. The way the 2nd one ended had me wondering what happens next, and the series is just so damn cool in general that I can't resist voting for it.

Deus Ex 2 and HL2 are up there though...I'd say that I want em all about equally, with TIII a little bit in the lead.

Wow, batting a 1.000 with Thief 3. I suppose this installment will centre around the Keepers and Garret's involvement with them more fully (and possibly finally) this time round. However, us 3 selecting Thief doesn't speak for everyone. My guess is tomorrow we'll see what the majority really wants to play.

Deus Ex 2 after seeing the intro trailer at Fileshack.

Ok, I must confess something: I never played any of the Thief's. So I really can't say that I'm looking so forward to Thief III. I'm really interested in 2 of the games on the list; DX2 and HL2. But I suppose if I were to pick one (and this was hard trust me) I'd have to pick HL2 on the merit of having at least some form of multiplayer (and if it's anywhere near as well-structured as the first Half Life's then we're in for a ride).

What, no H+d 2? I spent months pimping the thing up and it doesn't even get on the poll board, I voted for "other" in protest, its an outrage I tell ya.

So that's it, eh? Thief III and HL 2 seems to be the clear winners!

Alright you Theif crackheads, bow down to the almighty HL2!(and do so quickly) Seriously thought, i'm looking forward to HL2, Theif 3, and Deus the most.

I can't believe that you for STALKER. Next to Thief III it's the one game I'm looking forward to the most.

Then Half-Life 2 and Deus Ex.

Man, I'm gonna be playing more games this winter than I have in my entire life.

I've already mentioned that I absolutely can't wait for HL2... but I still find it kinda surprising to see that DOOM 3 didn't get a single vote for most anticipated game (granted there weren't that many vote entries anyway). The video feeds sure look promising...

I dunno. I really can't decide. It's a tie between Half-life 2 and Doom III

I have to say that Doom 3 looks astonishing... BUT the Doom atmosphere just doesn't grab me! I mean, i'm not as interested in playing in the Doom "hell" or "nightmarish" atmostphere as opposed to the sci-fi feel of HL2. That's my 2 cents yo.

True; I can relate more to the Half Life universe and environments than the DOOM counterpart. At the same time, I'd have to say I seem to like the DOOM environment more than the Quake ones ("what the hell is the difference?" some of u may be asking ;) )...

Although I'm not all that excited about DOOM 3 myself, I am really interested to see how it turns out.

It's a joke Frag, you think I actually play stuff like Train Simulator? I cant even play a flight simulator unless theres combat involved. If you could run over cows and sheep other hapless creatures that stray on to the track in Train Sim I'd buy it tomorrow. :D

Train Simulator is an AWESOME game... I'm serious. I play it more often than Flight Sim 2002 Pro... There's a TON more interactivity with trains than with planes... well, besides landings.

SBS you cant possibly be serious we're talking Train Simulator here, entertainment, where? I read Microsoft neglected to put people in it? I think some interest in trains may be required to get into it. I picture guys with goatee beards smoking a pipe and wearing a cardigan playing Train Simulator, cant imagine you there. I honestly cant play other sims apart from Combat Flight, jet or prop, preferably prop which I love, it's a historical thing I guess. I dont have any interest in civil flight sims, or naval sims (tried a couple), tried a crate stacking sim once it was called Trespasser. :D

Actually, that's a Trilogy, right? So I'm excluded from you arguements! But seriously, to quote you once again..."...and I realized almost all of them are sequels..."; need I remind you that there is more than one game I am waiting for... Out of the ones you had as options for us... Only 2 I am anticipating... HL2, and Deus Ex2... I have SO many more games that don't have a 2 or 3 behind them, it's not even funny, and that is NOT almost all the games I'm waiting for, it's a small fraction.

It's all good... I was just looking at the list of games you had up there in the poll.

But you did say that Thief III is your most anticipated game. Correct me if it's not, though. Oh I've got a long enough list of my most anticipated games too, I just don't think it's all that useful putting them up.

Oh, I'm just curious, what is a title with a 3 after it called? A sequel to a sequel? I honestly don't know, but I was assuming that they're all called sequels...

Yes, I said it was my most anticipated game that I'm waiting for. Sequels and triumvirates however, do not outweigh my anticipated games... again, the majority I'm waiting for are original in nature. I want Deus Ex II, Thief III, and Half-Life II, compared to Guild Wars, Savage, Knights of the Old Republic, Chrome, STALKER, Republic, The Movies, Battlefield Command and a host of others.

Well I've been in the hospital for nearly a month, so I haven't been playing any games. Watched lots of movies though. Now that I'm home I've found I haven't missed much, there have been NO good game released.

As for those choices, I am very VERY much looking forward to Deus Ex 2, Half-Life 2, and Hidden & Dangerous 2 (the year of the sequel), but I think Knights of the Old Republic tops the list. An open-ended Star Wars RPG made by Bioware? Hell yeah, I've been waiting for this one for ages!

BTW, nice new forums at PCGR. I like!

Hi Dobian, why the nickname change?

I was pretty sick for the past month. I'm getting better now but it'll be another 2 weeks before I go back to work. It was pretty rough for awhile, but the last week was just boring--lying in a hospital room bored to tears, watching movies and reading magazines. There's no lasting damage, except that I lost about 30 lbs and I no longer have an appendix. (I'm sure nobody wants the gory details.)

So in my 2 weeks of "no works, no sports, no junk food, and no partying" (I'm supposed to get 12 hours of sleep per day, minimum), what games should I play?

moya
09-10-2003, 09:36 AM
Nice to have you back with us Hieremias! :)

You should play Gothic 2 if you can possibly get your hands on it. See my thread for some of the reasons why.

Hieremias

Thanks moya.

Does Gothic II have a better control scheme than the first Gothic? It's been a while so I can't remember all the details, but I do recall hating the control setup for the first game. Something about not being able to strafe... ? It was not the same as a normal 3rd-person game. Has Gothic 2 fixed that?

I have never figured out why game developers choose to abandon normal control schemes. Gothic, and the more recent Pirates of the Caribbean, are perfect examples. What on earth were the developers thinking??! For 1st and 3rd person games I want the SAME basic controls and setup:

arrow keys = movement
keypad 0 = jump
r ctrl = duck
r shift = run or sneak
keybad 1 = reload

No, I do not use the WASD setup, and I despise games that don't let you bind your own keys (I've played a few that are guilty of that).

Hi Dobian, why the nickname change?

New board, new name. I am reborn.

Sounds like a rough illness. You should have had someone bring you some books to read. Books are way better for passing the time than magazines. Don't know what to suggest to you, I forget what games you like. I'm playing Vietcong and BG2: Throne of Bhaal right now, and I'm still goofing on Mafia a little bit. I'm also about to start playing through the campaign for Hidden and Dangerous again. I found H&D Deluxe awhile ago, and it fixes the problems that prevented me from finishing the campaign a couple of years ago.

Hieremias
09-10-2003, 12:26 PM
I tried reading books but I found it really hard to concentrate on something that long. I was often tired and frequently fell asleep while reading. I found I could pay attention to magazine articles much easier, especially the ones that were divided into shorter sections with subtitles.

I've played Vietcong, great game. Hidden & Dangerous is one of my old favourites, I'm really looking forward to the sequel.

I should mention that a buddy of mine, knowing that I'll be home for so long, has let me borrow his Gamecube for the next few weeks. I have Zelda Windwaker & Ocarina of Time, Turok Evolution, Super Smash Brothers, and Super Maria Sunshine to play... though I don't think I'll be playing much of that last one. I tried it for 5 minutes, all I can say is that it looks more gay than a pink balloon. My girlfriend came over to play Super Smash Brothers last night, it was a blast.

I'm thinking of starting through one of my old RPGs, like BG2 or IWD2. We'll see if I have the attention span for those.

DOOM 3 for me...ID makes the best FPS games BY FAR...they are the creators and they still have the tightest gameplay and best engines out of the bunch IMO.

Yes! I had exactly the same experience with the first game. The control system completely stopped me getting into the game. So anyway, in Gothic 2 you can either use the, er, "classic" Gothic 1 setup, or the Gothic 2 scheme which basically means you don't have to perform some arcane series of key gestures just to open a chest (control and up and left and right or something).

You can configure the keys to your liking as well, so that's no problem. You might get a shock upon loading it up (as I did) because there's no mouse pointer support in the menus. I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA why not (talk about shooting yourself in the foot), but it's not necessary - you just get used to using the keyboard and/or mousewheel to scroll up and down the menu options. Note that there is mouse support in the game for moving your viewpoint etc.

Oh, i really need Deus Ex 2, i havent played a really good game in TWO years :( Oh, i long for the times when i would sit for hours in dilemma; Should i play Deus Ex, or Should i play Baldurs Gate: Shadows of Amn .... Those were the best days of my life :) Now the dilemma goes: Should i uninstall Colin Mcrae 3 (Sooe crappy) or keep it for one of those days where a millionar comes into the house and says he'll give me a million if he can play Colin Mcrae Rally 3 .... Finding the later rather Unlikely, i have already trashed Colin Mcrae Rally 3, and started scouring the internet for a demo, prewiev or anything of Deus Ex 2
