SPOILER!

SPOLIER!

As per request, Bal Isra is just NW of Ald'Ruhn.

The reason why Bal Isra isn't there is because that encampment gets built when you join House Redoran and advance to the part where you get the quest to build your stronghold. Actually, when you join any of the three houses and get to the part where you start to build your stronghold, all three strongholds start to appear on the map (but only the one you build is "yours").

Assernairan is the name of a shrine, so you'll probably find it in the St. Ohms underworks (sewers).

Assuming you played Gothic2, which do you prefer: MW or G2?

I started Gothic 2, didn't get very far, and shelved it. I just couldn't get into it. It's still loaded so I may go back to it shortly, but it hasn't grabbed me. Morrowind, on the other hand, I have played for hundreds and hundreds of hours. I've played with two characters with plans to start a third character, which will be a female vampire so I can play the Morrowind Underground mod. I've been playing Bloodmoon again with my Nord, because I want to get him the ice armor so he looks really cool.

Re: Gothic, my hopes are that it would be a bit more lively- more interactive of an RPG than MW, which was too static for me. I found myself getting bored in MW, wandering aimlessly despite attempt to stay focus on campaign. How I envy those players who have found the "draw" to MW, especially in these times of limited PC game choices.

Curious too about Arx Fatalis, which I have yet to investigate [I notice Arx Fatalis has been compared to Deus Ex... ].

The key to enjoying Morrowind is to make your own story. And there are plenty of mods to liven it up. Morrowind Comes Alive places random generated NPCs both indoors and outdoors. I've played three different companion mods in the game. My one character has a girlfriend, and the other has a wife and a mistress. ;)

Arx being like Deus Ex is bollocks. It's much, much closer to Ultima Underworld.

Gothic 2 is a more lively world but the problem is the responsiveness of the control scheme and that your character feels outclassed by all the monsters. There's a story hidden in there and you see more of it than you see Morrowind's, but it's just not that interesting. It's not bad but it has its flaws and it's a bit of an acquired taste, but so is Morrowind.

Hey thread starter "cindy", did you find Bal Isra & Assernairan in St. Olms ok?

This thread encouraged me to restart MW over from the beginning, this time as speedy Nord.
Thus far its been more enjoyable than 1st time around :).

QUESTION: Are all armor ratings equally effective relative to users skill? Is mix 'n matching of armor ratings a no-no? [some medium, some heavy etc].

If you mix your armor types, then you will level up more slowly for each type. When in a fight, if your curaiss is heavy but your helmet it medium, then you'll gain experience for heavy armor when your torso gets struck, and medium when your head gets struck. So, it's not a great idea. Better to have all one kind of armor and level up in that type quicker. I like to start with a heavier armor early for protection, then when I get more experienced, switch to a lighter armor (or for one character, no armor) so that I'm more agile and have more weight available for carrying things.

Anyone have luck with pickpocketing in MW? If so, what aprox skill [SNEAK] level will produce reliable results?

My Breton is a master pickpocket. I forget how good you have to get to where you can be consistently successful. Probably over 50. You can level up in sneak skill if you just park yourself behind someone and crouch for a long time - though sometimes they'll move and you have to reposition yourself. It gets old holding the key down, though.
