Alright so, i got this desktop from work, thinking that i could jus take the old parts out, and put the new parts in. I turn on the computer, and it goes to a black screen. The screen says:

Onboard USB Controller, IRQ3

Then after all that it says:

Searching for boot record from floppy..not found

Boot failure
Insert BOOT diskette in A:
Press any key when ready

Ok...so i dont know what all this means...lol
I want to kno if any of this stuff is save-able and i also wanted to kno if these new system specs are good.

What i want when i rebuild the computer:

Athlon 64 3800+ (Socket 939)

Motherboard WinFast NF4UK8AA

Memory Kingston ValueRAM KVR400X64C25 (512MB x2)

Mouse Logitech MX510 Optical $28

Hard drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 160GB SATA

Optical drive Sony DRU-720A Dual Layer

Floppy drive/media reader Mitsumi FA404A w/flash memory reader (do i even need a floppy drive)

Power Supply Thermaltake W0068 460W (the power supply that i have in the computer now is Codegen 300w...is that good)..lol..such a dunce when it comes to computers

Operating system Windows XP Home

Any suggestions..to what i want to build will be very helpful. :)

Thanks

It means your Hard Disk has no OS properly installed on it. Judging from your power on data, I'd say your mobo is about 4-5 years old.

In other words, if you want an Athlon 64 3800+, just buy a new PC altogether. The only thing you can likely salvage from your old rig is the hard disk. And if you are so inclined, the casing and the floppy drive and CD ROM drive.

I honestly recommend you just ditch the entire thing.

Just go ahead and buy the components you mentioned and put them together.

I don't see why you'd ditch the thing? Just throw a new OS on it and use it as a file server...

You won't be able to use the case even... the form factor (basically the tower dimensions) won't fit the mobo you'd be trying to throw into it...

When I said ditch I didn't mean throw it into the garbage, I meant to buy all the new components altogether and leave the old one as is.

The casing will still probably be usable if he were so inclined; the form factor for a 1.6 system is probably already ATX, my Athlon XP 1600 was and the case it's in is still compatible with Socket 939 mobos.
