Ive been pondering this for weeks now. What would you do?? I was thinking of either upgrading to a 939 socket in a few months,or upgrading my current rig with a 6800 ultra.Right now with the weather conditions here i got my current pc running 53k for aquamarks which is what i can handle with no problems.I dunno how much of a bottleneck my cpu would be for a 6800 ultra but im pretty sure i could get 65k easily in aquamarks.

Thing is i feel if i could get a solid 2 years upgrading to the 6800 ultra i would probably go that route.any thoughts on this and what would you do??

My current system specs are below

I see you've got a 6600GT. I just ordered a Leadtek 6600GT 500/1000 today. It's the first and last upgrade I'll be doing on this computer. Will going froma 6600GT to a 9800 Ultra bring you that much of a noticable performance gain on your system? I have no idea.

Dont get me wrong i love the 6600 GT.Just i want to be done with upgrading for a few years and im not sure the 6600 GT has that much life span in it for me,especially since i like playing my games with high settings

I would say the beneifits you would gain would not be enough for the cost of the card. Just my 2 cents.... I probably would wait for a bit and see how hardware changes and costs go down. I too like it sharp but I am forgiving to some extent ...after all I am still perfectly happy with the results on this 9800 card. Benchmarks are nice but in the real world it matters how it looks. I have yet to run into any trouble. I know this will change with the next gen of games on the way but I am patient.

I have done no upgrading for a year now about...and at this point so reason too. I wait till I find something I really want to play and find I can not enjoy it. Oblivian just might be the push for me.

I think it's too soon for you to be upgrading. The 6800 Ultra isn't so much better than the 6600GT that you should upgrade. I would get a new CPU instead. But actually, I think your CPU is just fine and you don't need to change it either at the moment.

Wait for the next gen games to come out before upgrading. Test the waters and see how your system stacks up.

Right now I'm not too happy with my game results anymore and I think my aging CPU is showing. I desperately want to upgrade it but my dilemma is that if I upgrade my CPU, I have to upgrade my mobo. And if I do that, I want to get a nice socket 939 with PCI-E. That move, however, would invalidate my Radeon 9800 Pro.

So basically there are no more upgrades left to be done on my PC. I think I'll just leave this one as is forever, and buy a new one entirely come the next gen games. That would be good too because I'm already incapable of running games at best settings. Had to make do with Far Cry at lower settings, same thing is happenign with Battlefield 2 right now and I also expeirenced chugging with Boiling Point. Acually San Andreas also slows down in some points but I think that's the fault of the game plus the fact that I'm running at at 1280x960x4xAA.

Ya i suppose ill stick with what i got for now.See what happens over the next year then upgrade accordingly. If i would have done more research before i built this one i would have gotten a 939 as i didnt realize at the time AGP was dieing out.

Yeah, I didn't do enough research when I got my Radeon either! I think PCI-E was already out at the time, I just didn't pay attention. Had I know, I would have dumped my PC altogether then and there and just gotten a new PCI rig with a PCI-E card.

My advice is to look into the horizon and check what game(s) it is you want to play the most. WHen those come out, try your PC to see if they can run the game properly at the level you want, and if they do, no need to upgrade. If they're subpar then that's the time you upgrade, and you'll be in a better position to determine what components to get.

I know the temptation you're going through right now, though. I too want to upgrade my PC so badly, it's like I'm addicted to system building. But no!!! I must hold back since I am not a rich man. =_= So I'm waiting ot see how things pan out when the big 3 come out (Stalker, Olbivion and Gothic).
