Nintendo is the new apple and the revolution is the new ipod with a itunes like service for old games. Also let us not forget the ipod mini, I mean gba mini.

512MB of flash memory built into the revolution is the only new spec that was revealed at the press conf as well as SD support for memory card storage. Well that and confermation that it will indeed playback dvd movies.

Makes sense. Smaller but rabidly dedicated set of fans, appeals to the videogame geek chic crowd..all they need are ipod style commercials and they'd be set.

That conference was pretty weak. How you gonna kicks ass with a system that's not playing in the same ballpark as the competition. It's not even cube 1.5, its like cube 1.15 or something. No reveal on the controllers, lame. Gameboy Micro, better screen, that's it. C'mon, it should have had wireless builit in at the very least.

This lineup of nintendo's Mario Strikers, Mario Baseball, a Mario Dance game, and Mario Party 7, oh, man. I don't what planet nintendo is on anymore, it ain't earth. They should get out of the console business, because its clear they have no intention of competing next gen. Smash bros at at revolultion launch, whoopee, more mario, metroid, etc. Not a single new IP was even mentioned. FF:CC on the revolution, wow, thrillsville. And that was the only third party mention. They'll be coming out last and with the least, they won't be able to hang long next gen at all. Man, the revy is going to die out so quick, it'll make nintendo's fans heads spin. Very disappointed.

They say you can download nintendo software and that's cool, but how much will it cost and what happens when I turn my machine off. Where do you store the game? The revy will be a made for nintendo fans console more than any previous machine and will turn off third party developers even more. Now, they have to compete with 20 years of nintendo software.

I'm more intruiged by the controller thing now more than ever (I'm a controller freak). I know they are overly paranoid about people stealing their ideas, but this is just freaking obsessive. Maybe that's why they didn't show the new software either (or maybe they just don't have any, good chance of that too.) I'm just wondering if the new interface really is good enough somebody would want to steal it. I'm more inclined to wonder how anyone else could steal their "big idea" at this point since the other two players already have their game plans pretty set.

SHOW US THE FREAKING CONTROLLERS ALREADY!!!!!

Well, I'm at the point now, that I don't care. There really is nothing nintendo could put out that couldn't be copied by the competition if it was mind blowing. The ps3 is bluetooth wireless, which means support for various bluetooth devices. Sony showed an eyetoy game for ps3 where the player showed up onscreen interacting with onscreen characters in a picture window by talking to them. Games dont' have to be tied down a specific controller design. Sony if they wanted could release a touch pad and make a touch screen game. There's nothing to stop them. The base controller is just a launching off point.

The original playstation controller didn't support analog or vibration functions, they added them later. Whatever nintendo comes up with, won't stop either sony or ms if they want to copy it. All the secrecy does is drive away third party developers.

There are actually quite a few similarities between Apple and Nintendo.

They have a small, and ever decreasing, marketshare. They make great hardware and 1st party software, but can't use 95% of what's available to the rest of the world. They both are cheapskates when it comes to features, despite having the best overall hardware design. They both have a rabid OBC fanbase, and are universally hated by those that aren't part of said fanbase.

And they both seem to be good at alienating their core fans, which is not good when there is the aforementioned shrinking marketshare.

Besides, it's more like..

iPod is to Apple, what Gameboy is to Nintendo.

Revolution is to Nintendo, what Mac Mini is to Apple

and so on and on.

There's a huge difference between apple and nintendo. Apple is able to charge a stiff premium for their products based on their branding. Nintendo can't. Right now, nintendo can't sell gamecubes at $99. Imagine a gamecube selling at a premium to MS and Sony at $199. Absolute disaster.

Nintendo stays alive by cashing in on low cost to develop properties that sell big like the pokemon franchise on the gba. Same bloody games over and over again with virtually no production values, cheap as hell to make sold to non-critical fan based audiences, aka kids. This is where nintendo makes enough money to cover the losses incurred elsewhere.

Look at the revolution, designed so that nintendo can resell their entire libarary all over again via the internet. Very little cost to nintendo, almost pure profit. As long as you can convince fans to keep buying the same game over and over again, you don't need new product.

Lets see now..ever decreasing market share? Apple's market share actually rose form 3% to 6% in the past 6 months, it has one of the largest marketshares when compared to any single computer brand..not only that," Macs account for 6 out of the 10 top selling computers at online mega-retailer Amazon.com this month, a sign that Apple continues to hold a significant computer market presence". Source - Wall Street.

Apple's computer sales also remain strong down the line, with 10 models in the top 20. Meanwhile, the company's new Tiger operating system continues to hold the top spot on a list spanning all of the retailer's electronics goods.

Additionally, various versions of Apple's iPod digital music player are also dominating the retailer's MP3 player top seller list, occupying 8 of the top 10 spots and 11 of the top 20.

There is a reason why Steve Jobs has won Forbe's CEO of the month 22 consecutive times.

So no, Apple does NOT = Nintendo.

Nintendo SUCKS FOREVER!

You are as nonsensical as you are enigmatic. I praise you for your Apple love. I say "shame on you" for your stupifying hatred towards Nintendo.
