View Full Version : WTF was that ??!!!!

Are you freaking kidding me? Are you freakin kidding me? I just watched 30 minutes of pure, unadulterated crap. Somebody tell me, WTF the west-coast customs car people have to do with Xbox 360????? Are you kidding me? They showed a 5 minute segment on pimping out an Xbox 1 ... but you only show a few seconds of the new Xbox360? Are you ******* kidding me?!!
They spent almost the whole time focusing on the various gamers and celebs. Who are these clowns? Why do I care? Isn't this supposed to be about the console . .. somebody get me that damn ring so I can throw Frodo into the lava pit.
...
...
dammit, hang on while I go find something to throw ...
...
...
....
....
Ok .... ok ... I'm a little calmer and minus one desk lamp. Alright, for anyone who missed the 30 minute special on MTV where they (supposedly) revealed the Xbox 360, here is a recap of what was shown:
About 8 minutes of performances by a band named the Killers (I dunno, don't ask me) + about 15 minutes of commercials (which is odd, because I assumed that MS payed for this time, so why would they need so many commercials?) + about 5 minutes of watching the west-coast guys pimp an Xbox 1 + about 5 minutes of watching 3 "professional" gamers talk about themselves + 3 minutes of them playing the Perfect Dark game, of which most of the time the camera was on the gamers instead of their monitors + I can't remember the rest because it was forgettable. All in all, I saw about 60 seconds of actual gaming footage, most of the which were trailer-type movies. I got to see a few seconds of gameplay footage, which had some rather bland levels, and l think I saw some framerate slowdown.
After watching the special, this is what I learned:
- Xbox360 is apparently wireless, but not sure how.
- Xbox360 apparently shows its games in HDTV
- Xbox360 looks like a mini-tower.
- XBox360 has no controller ports.
- MTV sucks ass.
- The Killers suck ass
- Elija Woods is not a gamer and he also sucks ass
- Sway is ghey
- Microsoft apparently doesn't think much of it's gamers.
- Catch phrases, like "It's extreme", and "I'm hooking up" or "I'm all over this" should be left back in the 90's where they belong.
- EA sucks ass. But I knew that before I watched the special tonight.
What I DID NOT learn:
- Is the console backwards compatible?
- If it's wireless, then how? What type of controllers, and do they need batteries? Is the headset for Live also wireless? How do I plug into my TV, through wireless?
- What type of new gameplay is being implemented in these games?
- When is it coming out?
- How much?
- How is Live handled by the new console?
- What about the Hardrive?
- What about Morrowind?
- Xbox360 is very customizable, so they say. But they never said how.
Almost all of the games that they (barely mentioned) are sequals. And none of them showed any footage of stuff that could not be done on the current Xbox. Or, if there were, noone bothered to explain how. The small bits of the show that actually were about the console focused almost exclusively on the graphics, which weren't that impressive anyway.
Rant over.

Yeah, that show sucked and was pretty much just a waste of time. Typical MTV crapola. It seemed like MS just handed everything over to them - as far as presentation goes. Why?!
I thought they'd do a lot more showing and telling; and I thought they'd do it in typical presentation-style with presenters and props etc. - but with youth and flair. They didn't do nuthin! They just plopped the new console on that pedestal and that was pretty much it. Alls they did was confirm what the internet has already shown us - which wasn't much. And even then, you had to look at things other than what MTV would have you look at - like instead of watching those goobers play a game, you had to look at what they were playing it with/what they were holding in thier hands. WTF was this show for?!
HEL-LO?! MS...
* What's in it, exactly?!
* How much will it cost?!
* How many versions are there going to be - any truth to the rumours that there'll be more than one?!
* When's it coming out?!
* Is it b/c?!
* Will our "old" XBox controllers work with it?!
Guess we gotta wait some more, eh? Neat.
I wish MS would've been more forthright about what that show was going to show. That way I could've skipped it, you know?! MTV... pfffft.

Hey, at least you get to watch a 3 hour Viva LaBam marathon after the show.

Turns out the MTV show was just an image/status thing and that's it. All the stuff we (that is we gamers) want to know (well, almost all) is to be revealed to us by our trusty vg reporters, magazines, and ezines. And they what they know because they were invited by MS to their HQ about two weeks ago to get that info. I guess they just couldn't reveal anything until after the show(?)
Well... now that the show's over... :D ...

After seeing that "special", I have absolutely no interest in getting the console right now. What little gameplay footage they showed was very unimpressive. Hopefully, we'll actually see something at E3. Seems like this MTV special was just so they could show their console before Sony does. Too bad they didn't really have anything to show.

Hey don't forget the XBOX survived despite Microsoft's marketing. And, it looks like the XBOX 360 will have to overcome Microsoft marketing as well. Seriously, MS come look me up, pay me $100,000 a year, and I'll market your system, because you need help.
That show was so gay, and exactly what I feared it would be. My only thought was they were forced to save the technical details for E-3. That is until I looked online today and say all kinds of technical details. Obviously what they should have done was introduce the system, period, in detail. Instead they turned it into some weak event which left gamers clueless. About the only thing it did was show me the system looks pretty damn good in my estimation, and the face-plate concept is so simple yet effective.
For the answers to the rest of your questions, head over to IGN 360, and look at the hardware specs article.
Basically, the system is going to be a graphical beast. The only two tricks it won't pull off are WI-FI out the box, and Blu-ray hd-dvd support. Other than that everything is there. It will be b/c, it will come with a 20G HDD which is detachable and upgradeable. So those are the primary things people were worried about.
The games, it has some pretty damn good looking games, at least from the photos. I don't know if these are all launch games, I doubt all of them are. If you download the video from OURCOLONY you catch glimpses of Ghost Recon 3 and another Mech Type game which is insanely beautiful. Yes, Morrowind Oblivion will be there, at launch good ? Since the game is in development since 2002, my guess is yes.
Anyway, nothing new in terms of Microsoft marketing. Did you try out your wheel yet?

First thing first I'm so sick of people on the net dissing MTV. I mean I'm not defending the station but it has always ticked me off that people sit on the sidelines saying how stupid, not cool, mainstrean, crap etc something is. It's easy to attempt to look cool by dissing something but it's harder to look cool expressing what you actually like.
Now on to the event. I was dissappointed. Mainly because MTV has done things like this before with there "Making the Game" features on Madden and LOTR maybe EA actually produced those shows though.
The features (which I learned online) are cool as hell. And it's kind of sad that the most next gen game so far looks like NBA 2k6 with lebron shooting the basketball. Oh well I guess we wait for E3. The show was a success in getting the name out there though and I guess that was the point.

Overall, I was also disappointed in the show. I knew it wasn't going to be the type of show gamers would want to see since it's on MTV, but gee....did the cater to the mainstream or what? Celebs playing games and looking "cool", calling Xbox 360 sexy, having Pimp My Xbox....where's the nerdy version of the show? That's what I want to see.
Luckily, I recorded the show, because I didn't get a good look at the actual system until I played it again. Even then, I had to do slow-mo then pause, because it wasn't on the screen long enough for a regular pause to catch the system.
The games looked nice, though I would have liked to see more of them. From the look of it, the graphics of the games will look identical to the FMVs and Cinematics we're seeing in current games.

Did you try out your wheel yet?
Ummmm .... not yet ... and I'm not sure you want to hear the sorted details as of why. Needless to say, I was a bit upset last night that I couldn't use it. I may be able to get it working tonight.
It's the butterfly effect ... Darwin orders a product through an online gaming site on Monday evening, and winds up cleaning his room Thursday night instead of playing games ...

I wasn't too disappointed in the MTV kick-off because I kind of figured MTV would act like MTV and shoot towards a younger audience worrying about being hip rather than presenting great content. Even in high school I couldn't watch this crap - ever since they stopped playing only videos (man, I'm getting old).
Plus, after the kick-off occurred internet sites were loaded with info. Basically this stupid show launched all the info but the actual show sucked.
I did however like some of the games showed albeit for only a few seconds: Call of Duty 2, Ghost Recon 3, that new title with the beast lookin dude whatever it was called, the new Tony Hawk title even looked tight and I'm sick to death of TH games.
Well, I'm excited. I still may grab one or both of the other next gen systems but XBOX is my current fave mainly due to the online functionality. Love the Friends set-up and it looks to only get better next gen so I'm in.
Went to Gamestop today and my dude told me that they will only receive 25,000 copies in the US total. This store in particular will only have 12 at launch (guaranteed but more could come depending on if more are ready by then). They had already sold 10 of those reserves at a minimum of $50 put down. Most of the more popular locations of GS had already sold out according this guy.
I proudly grabbed the 11th reserve, One left and he took it B4 someone else would get it. I can't be on the sidelines when everyone else enters the next gen so I couldn't resist. Now have to reserve some games and pay the rest off after the official price is announced.

For those interested in my little butterfly effect scenario, here is how it breaks down:
- I order the driving wheel online. It arrives while I am at work Wed, but they deliver it to my leasing office. That is fine, except the leasing office closes by the time I get home.
- So I have to pick the driving wheel up before work Thurs, put it in my trunk and take it to work. Then when I get home Thurs evening I take it out of the box.
- I try it on my lap, but immediately becomes apparent that this is not going to work. It is very uncomfortable and feels like someone jamming a fork into each thigh. What are you gonna do when you're 270, hey?
- No worry, I'll clamp it, just like my GT4 wheel. Oh wait, it won't fit. I need about another centimeter of clearance before I can clamp it to the front edge of the table.
- Oh, but I see that I can clamp it to the side of the table. But the side of the table is so close to the wall that I cannot sit. So, it becomes apparent that I will need to rotate my table 90 degreees.
- And here is the clencher..... I have not cleaned my room in probably 18 months or so. The floor is so cluttered that I cannot physically rotate the table. Sinister poetic justice, perhaps. Perhaps when our Mothers told us to clean our rooms, they knew more than we gave them credit for.
Funny thing is that I discovered about 10 outfits that I forgot I had. I found my Guncon, my Dreamcast, my Quake 2 disc, a receipt for my preorder of Brute Force ... and apparently I now have 4 driving wheels ??!!. And I just picked up off the floor the peice of paper that I wrote the final results of the first Toca 2 League Race ... dated 5/26/2004. codename HAVOK came in 8th and I finished 3rd. I'm finding all kinds of stuff I forgot I had. My dog is afraid to come into my room because it now appears to be much bigger than it was before.

The MTV show ended up being good for the few seconds of game footage. I thought NFS: Most Wanted, NBA 2k6, and Kameo looked interesting. I didn't have the same "WOW" factor for the next gen Madden like I did when Madden 2001 came out.
I'm not surprised to hear Gamestop will be getting so few systems at launch. EBGames seemed to do a better job of having more to pre-order, while Gamestop always has some cut off number.
I don't mind waiting for a while before I pick up the system. I wouldn't have time for games for the current systems, the couple of games I would want for X360, plus the new Zelda...all coming up during the Holiday season.
