Sony tries to steal some hype!
Sony Considers 2005 PS3 Release
A company rep hints at the possibility of a release this year.
by Anoop Gantayat
May 12, 2005 - In a surprising twist on the next generation hardware race, a Sony representative has stated that a year 2005 release for the next generation PlayStation is a possibility. Responding to questions from Jiji news service, Sony Chief Financial Officer Takao Yuhara states, "For the year end sales season, simultaneously building up both the PlayStation Portable system in America and Europe as well as the next generation PlayStation is one option that we have."
Most industry speculation calls for a next generation PlayStation release in 2006. Sony's third party developers have backed this assumption up with a strong list of PlayStation 2 titles planned for the rest of the year and early next.
The state of the next generation PlayStation software shown at next week's E3 show should reveal if a 2005 release is a possibility for the new system, or if Yuhara's comments were designed to take some steam out of Microsoft's Xbox 360 unveiling later today.
The last sentence says it all.

From what I know, nvidia would have to perform some real wizardry getting that gpu into production for a 2005 release, not to mention, what software would there be? Third parties have been operating under the assumption that the xbox 360 would be out this year, but that the ps3 would be mid-year 2006.
Sony does have the option of a launch similar to the psp, a march april timeframe. I don't remember a console being launched in such a time frame before in the NA market, but sony launched the ps2 in japan in march of 2000. It's possible. More likely is a september 2006 launch for ps3 in NA. That would give MS only a 10 month headstart and with the kind of lengthy development times nowadays for games, 10 months doesn't mean a whole lot.
I would personally hate to see sony rush out the ps3. Make it good and whatever lead MS gets won't mean a damn in the long run.

Plus, and you can bookmark it b!tches, a 99 buck Ps2, Zelda, and DS vs PsP, will be more than enough for the Xbox 360 to handle. The Dreamcast did fine, but never could get over the hump due to the Ps2 hype. Ditto this gen for M$. Nintendo is brillant for trying to do something different ratther than directly compete with the Ps3.

BTW I saw a picture of the PS3, dunno if it was real. It looked like a camera. Black, no ports for controllers (so I guess it's wireless?) a slot for mem card and for mem chip (weird?) and the right side had this weird round thing that made it look like a camera lens.

What do you mean by this statement? What basis do you have for thinking Nintendo is doing something different from PS3?
Sounds like, based on the comments in this thread, that the new Nintendo will have some power behind it. We've heard rumors that it may also have a new, creative control scheme. OK. What else besides it offering its first party titles that PS3 obviously won't have the rights to (just as Nintendo won't release a Sony exclusive title).
Please enlighten me.....

That photo you speak of, was a photoshop job and a fairly bad one at that. They took a sony front video projector and worked from there. One of the worst fakes I've seen.

Please enlighten me..... You pretty much answered your own question. But honestly, I'm basing my opion on rumors. Gyroscopic, and pressure senstive controllers will change the way you play certain genres. Nintendo is trying to change the way we play games, while Sony seems to be offereing a super-powered console.
That being said, it could turn out that the revolution could be crap. E3 will answer a lot of questions.
BTW. 9:30 tonight on MTV for Xbox 360 info. Hopefully we'll see some Perfect Dark video.

I Tivo'd it but haven't watched it yet. I can't wait to see what MS has in mind for this next gen while we'll have to wait until E3 for more from the other 2.
Next week's activities and events should answer alot of questions regarding the new Nintendo along w/bringing more specs to light on all 3 systems. I'd love to be able to see a side by side comparison of all three systems come E3. Hopefully that will be possible!!!
