Playable Demos:

Destroy All Humans
Lego Star Wars
FlatOut
Dead to Rights II
Juiced
Xbox Live Arcade
DragonBall Z: Sagas
Halo 2 Game Type: Zombies

Features:

Half Life 2
Stubbs the Zombie
Star Wars Ep III: Revenge of Sith

Juiced demo sucks, IMO. I'm still not sure why THQ saved this game from the sinking Acclaim ship. NFSU 1 & 2 and Midnight Club 3 are better games than what Juiced is trying to be.

Destroy All Humans was pretty funny, but for some reason, I'm still not convinced I should get this game. It's from one of my favorite devs, Pandemic, but there's still something about it that makes me want to wait on the game.

The OXM mag itself features GTA: San Andreas on the cover. I haven't read it to see what the reviews are.

I'll tell you what the reviews are. ASS!!!! More than half of the games reviewed have a score of less than 6.0. What does it tell you when Myst 4 gets better reviews than almost all other games released.

What does that tell me? To hold off on anymore game purchases until my June pre-orders start coming in. I really thought the Predator game had a chance to be at least decent. I guess it did until they started the development process.

Really? I thought the game was pretty decent. In fact, there was something about it that was sticking with me - even while I was playing Forza. I hate it when that happens... in racing games. I gotta give credit to Juiced for making the impression that it did, but Forza's the game I want to play right now. And more than with any other genre I cannot play two racers at the same time. It totally messes me up!

I hear ya. I've got it reserved with GameRush... but after playing the demo, I've decided that I'm not going to collect. I'll get it when it drops down to $20. Sorry Pandemic. Sorry THQ.

You know what killed it for me? The voice acting. Ugh. I thought they got the main dude - the martian that you play as (I forget his name already) - way wrong. I thought it was awful. Gameplay-wise... it was meh. Kind of felt like I've been there, done that. Reminded me a bit too much of Psi-Ops. Which then made me want to play Psi-Ops. (I love that game!) Oh, and I didn't think DAH was funny at all. Did I miss something?

Hey, speaking of funny...

Never you mind what that reviewer said about Raze's Hell. I don't think I agree with a single word he said. Terrible review. It really does make me think that the publishers pay off reviewers. Or at least put pressure-emphasis on them. Anyways, I take special exception to what he said about the humor ("It's supposed to be funny, but aside from some occasionally humorous throwaway lines from the dying Kewletts, the joke doesn't quite work...") - I think the game is frickin' hilarious! In fact, I'm calling it the funniest game EVAR!!! Those Kewletts crack me up!

I'd be remiss if I didn't say that the game doesn't put a frown on my face though too: the game is hard as hell. The reviewer kind of got it right when said that the Kewlett AI 'is reminiscent' of Halo's - but he'd of been more right if he would have said that it's A LOT like Halo's. Couple that AI with the fact that there are often many many different kinds of enemies - and enemy projectiles - to deal with at one time and then throw in some hazardous environmental surroundings and some trial-and-error game-play moments and maybe you can start to understand the Hell that Raze and I are going thru.

I've been meaning to add my impressions to the Raze's Hell thread I started (months ago)... which I will do dangit... so I won't say too much more about it here now.

The demos:

Already talked about DAH, and Juiced...

* Dead To Rights II = Terrible! Unplayable. Uncontrollable. Terrible.
* Flatout = Meh. Though it is quite different, it still reminds me too much of Crash-n-Burn. Which then makes me want to play CnB. (I love that game too!) :D

* Lego Star Wars = This is the best demo on the disc, imo. This game is alright! In fact, I want to get it. But... I'm not paying more than $20 for it. Which all works out for me anyways because I don't want anything to do with SW ep.III: Revenge Of The Sith until after I see the movie!!!

Oh yeah, and mustn't forget about Xbox Live Arcade! But I gotta save that for tomorrow. My bed's calling me.

I guess playing Midnight Club 3 a few days ago didn't help my impressions of the Juiced demo. I'm curious to how much THQ will try to sell the game for. $19.99 is what I'm feeling after the demo, but I wouldn't be surprised if they try for a $39.99 price. One good thing about Juiced was there was car damage, something NFSU doesn't have. I can't play more than one racer at a time, just like I can't play more than one RPG at a time.

Do you have the full credit on DAH at GameRush? If you can, I would suggest cancelling the pre-order ASAP. Since GR do things a bit different, they may try to latch your pre-order credit on the game and try to get you to buy it anyway. I could (and hope) I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get at my local GR.

Crypto's voice was definitely horrible. The guy giving orders had a good voice over. You didn't miss anything. I didn't think DAH was all that funy either. Are psychic powers becoming the new "bullet time" for gaming? After one game does it (Psi-Ops), it seems like a lot of other games are trying it (Second Sight, Psychonauts, DAH, Advent Rising, etc)

I look forward to reading those impressions since I haven't read much about the game overall.

Lego Star Wars was funnier than DAH, IMO. I agree about the price. Anything more than $20 for it is too much, especially since it's not hard and it's short.

Dead to Rights II is garbage. I can't believe I pre-ordered that at GR. Fortunately, I was able to take it and pick up Punisher (a much better game) in-store on the same deal.

I have a question. After E3, does OXM usually cram a lot of videos and features on their demo discs? If so, then I forgive them for having some lackluster demo discs this year.

I've been waiting for DAH for some time - has that kitschy 50's scifi feel. But when I played the demo I was upset that you couldn't invert the Y-axis, making the control cumbersome for me. Anyone know if this sort of remapping oversight is typical of xbox demos? (I never play demos, just bought this one for DAH)

I ask because THQ has a habit of not providing controller y-axis inversion in other games (i.e. Spongebob movie game).

The last game DAH developer Pandemic made (Mercenaries) gave gamers the ability to invert the Y-Axis, so I would think DAH would also have this feature.

Thanks - forgot about Mercenaries. Makes sense.
