These are alleged screenshots from a next gen game. They are from the new XBOX360 ign site but it is multiplatform so they apply to PS3 and Rev. I find it difficult to believe especially the yellow car but I thought it would be interesting to see what others thought.

If those are in-game graphics, they look really good.

From the article, it appears that the devs Steel Monkeys are going to be the first next-gen developers to try and knock off Rockstar's GTA. I just hope this doesn't end up playing like Driv3r.

I look at the next generation of consoles from the perspective of digital cameras. Early on, it was easy to tell the difference between great digital cameras and crappy ones. Now you can get great 3 megapixel cameras that produce images up to a certain size as well as or better than some 5 megapixel cameras.

When it comes to these consoles next generation, what we are talking about is the ability to achieve photo-realism. Obviously if you can achieve photo-realism, you can achieve any other kind of look from fur on mascots to sci-fi, but photo-realism is the standard. I believe all three consoles will be able to achieve photo-realism in a full 60fps in high definition. At this point, doesn't power become irrelevant? I don't know what the extra power will achieve. So when people say the PS3 will be more powerful than Revolution or 360, yeah but tangibly what does that mean to gamers? I am not saying that more power in the next generation is bad or will be wasted, all i'm saying is that there must be a reason why MS and to some extent Nintendo, are perfectly happy with Sony developing this beast of a processor.

When it comes to the next generation, i'll be buying an XBOX 360 for the games and for LIVE. But I may also buy a PS3 if its a great console and is online. So i'll be very interested to see if Sony can push the next generation further into the future, like MS did this generation. I think it will be a bit of a hurdle for Sony though. I think having the power is one thing but it will take people some time to be able to use it to a tangible benefit that does something XBOX 360 and Revolution are incapable of, maybe years.

I agree that these graphics look sweet and that all next gen consoles may be able to produce them, but then again it's only a pic, and pics are static. Last gen the same thing was done we saw beautiful photos before the consoles were ushered in, but what I want to see is gameplay (#), large worlds and huge vistas, draw dropping realism and animation in the most fluid of form, that is simply what I await.

Meh.

I mean, yeah, that screenshot is purty and all, but will purtyer graphics fix fundamental gameplay issues? Will nicer reflections fix stale genres?

If all the developers who are clamoring for more power and better graphics are simply going to release even better looking turds in the next-gen, then count me out.

Power will be very relevant because, as you should know based on the current gen, power will determine exactly how much will be available on the screen before the framerates drop to unviewable numbers. A lesser console may be able to project a picture perfect image of a 4vs4 deathmatch in high def at 60fps. But that same console may not be able to project the same image detail at the same framerate with an 8vs8 team deathmatch. A good example in todays consoles is GT4. High def graphics, 60 fps, but limited number of cars per race. I bet you that if GT4 was made to run 8 car races instead of 6 the framerates will drop considerably. The pictures depicted above looks great now but those are just the initial offerings. Bigger and better things are sure to come.

Lastly, the reason MS is "perfectly happy" with Sony developing this beast is because MS doesn't really have a choice. MS is incapable of developing its own hardware and the only thing MS can do is "buy" what is available from other manufacturers. Thats why.

This "beast" everyone talks about is Sony pulling the same BS all over again. I have yet to see a claim made that what the Cell can do will be the same as what the PS3 can do. I'm guessing the PS3 will have less of the Cell in it than the fanboys are hoping for. Yet again people have turned a discussion into a fanboy war. I've got to quit coming in here. I do find it interesting that it is always the Sony boys who start **** now. Hmmm

So are you saying that TMG is a "Sony boy" now? Interesting.

Another good example can be found in the SplinterCell games! In the Pictures off all screen shots for all the SC games on every console, they look fantastic. But when you compare the series from the Xbox and PC to the PS2 and GC versions there are many differences....even though the pics can look very similar!
