Thief 2X: Shadows of the Metal Age

This one has me really excited. A full-blown downloadable expansion to Thief 2 done in the style of the original Thief. It's been in beta and is getting close to a release. Get the trailer here:

Very impressive. Some people here are already aware of this one, but I want to keep it on the radar. It looks like a Thief experience not to be missed.

I've been waiting for this one for awhile now. I think all they have left to do is just 2 or 3 briefing clips and it's done...all the missions have been beta tested and everything.

What I found a little funny was the web site's spin on why T2X would feature a female lead instead of Garrett:

"We realized that a female character - especially Zaya - had so much more to offer in terms of an innovative gaming experience and plot line..."

Hmmm, to me that's strectching it big time. I mean, Garrett's done ok keeping us entertained in the other T games, right? Could there be another reason? ;)

I'll admit I'm intrigued by the thought of this new character, but I also think they had to go in this direction, and their spin conveniently sidesteps the only two possible alternatives to what they've done: having Stephen Russell voice act the new Garrett in this unofficial community expansion pack (and we all know THAT ain't gonna happen), or having another actor play Garrett.

Somehow I don't think that would go over too well wth T fans, either...

No matter. This project looks like it has no down side, and I'll give it a look when it's released...

This Thief 2 expansion, is there a release date for it?

Current hints are pointing towards this weekend. If not then, then not long after.

Keep in mind that it's not an official Eidos published expansion pack. But from what I've seen of it, it's about as professional as you can get. 13 missions, a bunch of new cutscenes, all new briefings, sound effects and voices...about 5 years worth of work has gone into it and it shows.

I was going to finally download and play Calendra's Legacy. I wonder if I should do that or hold off and hit Thief 2X when it's hot off the4 presses. A happy dilemna.
