I'm thinking of getting this. Yes, I know it's an RTS. But I played the demo and it actually impressed me(!) I've also heard some good reports from people who generally don't like RTS's. And also I finally get to play Eldar on my 'putar. Which is something I've always wanted to do since I was 12 and was into painstakingly painting small lead figures and collecting 'White Dwarf'.

So anyone played this?

As the resident Games Workshop player here at VGR (heh, join the club Moya!), I can say I picked this game up as soon as it launched. Great game... especially for one that doesn't enjoy RTS games too much. My biggest complaints?

First, the scenarios are too short... You get four races to play, yet only one race (the Space Marines) have a campaign attached to them. Ridiculous. They're coming out with an expansion soon, but I think the devs should release this for free.

Difficulty levels are simply spawn more units, and tank rush... There's really no other strategy that the computer uses. You're best off playing this online.

Certain units can be hard to locate on the field of battle, and when you do locate them, you focus on the object... even though you want to just select the unit, and command it to go to where you're at currently. Instead, the game forces you to go to where the unit is, and then you have to find the location on the map where you just were. A simple select next unit key (without focusing would be nice).

Tanks and hovercrafts can't climb up small craters... they have to go around them. As well, hovercrafts get a negative cover modifier for going across water... This makes no sense at all... I can understand marines getting slogged down in the muck, but hovercrafts?!

Things I lilke about the game...

Probably one of the best intro movies ever. The CG is incredible. http://www.dawnofwargame.com/downloads/index.php?watch_video=2

The replay feature is nice... you can also command while paused (both big pluses in my book).

And the multiplayer configurability is very robust. I would recommend it, especially since I'm not a big RTS player, but I had tons of fun while playing it. Enjoy. Let me know what you think of it when you get a chance.

Cheers SbS! I have ordered the game and am currently savouring the demo while I wait. You're right about the intro for one thing (if it's the same one as in the demo): it's freakin' awesome!
